A bit, but given how Bethesda aren't licensing out the idTech engine to anyone outside their studios, then one could've feared that they'd put a lid on this.
Good they didn't though ![]()
Quote“Building levels from scratch is more difficult,” he continued, “because we have a layer system in some of the levels. I can foresee somebody modding up Wellspring and adding different characters, giving them different voice-over.”
I hope he's talking about standard layers of stuff (textures, lightmaps, AI navmesh, etc.), and not some bizarre obtuse layering system. ![]()
Also, at QuakeCon 2010, Carmack stated in his keynote that all id Software games will continue to ship with modding tools. They weren't willing to give that up as part of the merger.
If you aren't sold after the dude punting the turret then fuck you.

Looks great, but where is the damage to the city?! Those skyscrapers are in way too good a shape for post-apocalyptic fiction...
Starting to remind me of a much better looking Fallout 3 with good shooting.
The theme is that an asteroid wiped humans out a la the dinosaurs, so there's no particular reason for the cities to be damaged beyond natural decay (which is present in videos I've seen). Interestingly the asteroid Apophis the game features IS predicted to have a high chance of hitting the earth and resulting in serious trouble when the game says it will (2029-2039) which is kind of cool — strange coincidence as we were randomly discussing this asteroid at work the other week. The game spices things up by having it hit the moon first leading to mass fucking up of the world. ![]()

270m in diameter. every man wishes his balls could do this much damage.
Sentura, fixated on balls ![]()
Lol, excactly what I suspected.
"Although the Greek name for the Egyptian god may be appropriate, Tholen and Tucker — two of the co-discoverers of the asteroid — are reportedly fans of the TV series Stargate SG-1. One of the show's persistent villains is an alien named Apophis who, on the show, gave rise to the myth of the Egyptian god."

That's gotta be one of the best environment art I've seen in a game.. but It's a shame it's being kind of ruined with color grading. Mega textures allows you to have insane amounts of texture variety, and I bet it's there, but all you see is purple. The color range is very limited due to the color grading.

Color grading should be used to stylize scenes, not to erroneous tint environments.
It just looks to me like you've changed it from grey to brown
Maybe I shouldnt have posted a pic at all, my point was we need more color variety, not monochromatic stuff. (unless if you're doing stylized)
yeah we need more rainbow games
