Doom 3 was excellent btw. Hugely flawed, but excellent.

Yes it was an awesome experience. Too bad it got really repetitive and dumb sometimes. I also hated all the roleplaying, dialogues, PDA records you were forced to listen to etc... inbetween the gun fights. That's really silly considering Doom should be about carnage, not about some dumb sci-fi plot that nobody cares about.
They did not forced you to listed to the PDA logs, you only listen to them if you want to... Actually, I think they added a lot to mood of the game.

Agreed, I don't know why people were so disappointed with Doom 3, it was exactly the game ID wanted to make, a reimaging of the Doom universe that kept some of the same relentless game mechanics of the original. Doom 3 imho, was a better game than Half-Life 2 was/is.
I couldn't disagree with you more. If iD wanted to make a repetitive, boring rehash then they did indeed succeed. I wouldn't even put it in the same league as Half-Life 2, never mind consider it as better. Whether or not it's the game iD wanted to make is entirely irrelevant; the audience decides whether or not it was actually any good.
Doom 3 was good for two or three levels. They clearly had some good ideas, but had no idea how to keep it going for an entire game. After even the first couple of hours I'd felt like I'd seen most of what the game had to offer, which was average shooting and cheap scares.

Yeah, In HL2 the beginning is normal walking around, exploring world and shooting combines but then airboat, gravity gun, ravenholm, buggy etc and that made the game interesting all along. (ofcourse excluding the awesome stuff like immersive story telling or the world itself... it was amazing when i first saw it)
Wow that's a lot of job postings. Regardless of how much you liked Doom3 or not (I finished the game but it wasn't all that great to me) I still think id has ability to make something great and working on Doom4 would be an excellent opportunity for just about anyone. I hope some good Mapcorians get jobs there so we continue our takeover of the industry. Muhahahahahahahaha! ![]()
How many games have id software made, and how many have been bad? I don’t see why people are naturally assuming this will be terrible because Doom 3 fell short, or that they’re set to repeat the same mistakes all over again. Especially since the only information known about the game is the name. I think that kind of scepticism is a bit baseless, unless the first media release is a dark corridor and an article on stencil shadows.

Well you had to listen to PDA to get passwords, hints etc...
you know what looks more interesting than doom 4?
that surely looks awesome.
Crap on Doom 4 but get hyped for Deadspace. Bizzaro world or what... ![]()
*shrugs* Well, they have to make money in a way or another... right?
I'm not hyped about either one of these games, though I like Dead Space's setting a lot. I don't have a console though. So I don't care, actually. ![]()
Dead Space looks like Resident Evil in space!
...which I guess isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Doom 4 gets a meh till I know more.
first off, i am pretty tired of meaningless sequels; doom included. it offers nothing more to a story other than what has been seen before with better specular/normal maps. sure there will be the elements of pda's and other, but those should have been included in previous games too. it's definitely an overdone franchise with each game only offering minor changes to the next. kinda like super mario but then again not.
second, the only thing that really appeals to me in dead space is the story, which apparently, is also the most compelling element in the game. generally the concept of having any game where in the majority of it you have to aim with an analog stick really puts me off. i'm not saying i am hyped on the game, but from my standpoint it has a better chance of success than doom 4.
I think you are buying into marketing a little too much here sentura.
The two (or three) games looks excactly the same to me.
Scary horror thriller in space.

Doom 1& 2 needed PDA's? Really?

There was about a decade between Doom 2 and Doom 3... you could pick worse offender to nail for doing the same thing over and over with each sequel.
