Hopefully it won't bore me after a few levels like Doom 3.

But... didn't Carmack say there will be no more Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein games developed by id?

Well they are also developing new Wolfenstein so oh well.

Is there anyone here willing to apply for job there?

    Yeah, incredibly exciting...

It really is quite sad to see ID in their current position. Still can't believe that Epic took over the role of being that company as fast as they did.

Anyway, who knows, they might do something crazy with this and end up with something decent

Really excited about this...I think idtech 5 will help push the game in a vastly different direction from Doom 3. Method give us the details homeboy.

The news is much more exciting hearing it come from iD, and not from some other studio. Should be cool, looking forward to seeing their vision of Hell on Earth

Doom 4 will have no lights at all. Not even a flashlight.

Am I really the only one that thinks its kinda tame that they're just constantly rethreading old franchises, even more so than pretty much any other developer? I mean it was cool once that you just knew that they were the Quake studio, and everything you got from them was just that, but in this day and age they feel more like an old blind dog with no teeth thats stumbling around, rather than specced out killing machine that goes for your throat . I thought they'd try and take some more chances with their games after they announced Rage, but I guess they need something safe to fall back on.

I'm just not sure that they're up with the times when it comes to making tight shooters anymore, but I'm also just basing that on Doom 3 which is quite a while ago after all, so who knows.

    Hmm

How can anyone actually be excited about this after Doom 3? That game was one of the most over hyped, over rated and incredible repetitive games ever.

With Doom 4 , they'll break that repetitiveness by having not one, but TWO imps behind every door!

Exactly! Rage is a brand new franchise for ID, and there's no guaranties it will succeed!

So, my guess is that they are working on a new Doom, because no matter what you say, a new Doom is most likely to sell a few million copies!

Doom 3 is not a perfect game, but it is a very polished piece of art imho, I loved it and finished it 2 times in a row. Never had the chance to play the EP they released later on tho.

So yeah, can't wait for another Doom experience.

PS. No stencil shadows this time, plz, ktkxbye

Its still only the 4th game in like 20 years or whatever, it could be worse you know..

I think it is quite normal that they stick to their IPs, since they got quite a few of them, and all of them are very well known. It would be stupid not do anything with them.

Besides, in the end it is about what you do with it, rather than what it is. Even a Mylittle pony game could be most awesome. They could make D4 take place in a dense but dark scary jungle environment, with ancient ruines somewhere, and a lot of vehicle sections. My point is, It doesnt have to have be like D3.

I don't think Epic is the company either. They're doing quite the same with their unreal franchise.

Technically ID is cooking up some cool stuff. http://%7boption%7d

So yes I'am excited about it.

Well, actually what I meant to refer to was Epic being the "engine house" that made some decent games as tech demos . ID has very much lost out on that front the last couple of years

But yeah Hourences, I'm definitely hoping that they'll do something radically different with this instead of just being yet another corridor shooter. I would be pretty damn excited if they went the Dead Space route and made a more slow paced atmosphere based horror game with just some few shooter elements. I definitely think that they could pull something like that off if they had the balls to include less gunplay.
