I don't know... I always hate the run and jump parts of games. Sure assassins creed is fun, but after a while it gets really, really boring. I doubt that this will get any of my money.I don't care about mechanics unless the game is fun. Fun is the first priority.

You've never enjoyed platformers, have you?

I'm not a fan of platformers either but ima buy this for sure, mainly because any game that uses a clean/modern art style gets my approval I've got so bored of a grungy look now.

Assassins Creeds ‘platforming’ amounted to holding forwards and an action button. It’s fair to assume Mirror's Edge is going to be a bit more developed.

If I play this, I need to wear sunglasses to prevent my retinas from exploding due to the HDR, Bloom and blocks of primary colours. Gameplay looks good, but I've really not liked the art style from the start. Yes its not brown and muddy like 95% of everything else, I think its gone too far the otherway.

Love platformers though, just not blinding ones.

It’s definitely a good demo; I’ve played some really bad ones lately! Tutorial -> Demo Mission -> Promotional Video is the way to go!

First impressions of the demo after only giving it a single play through are: Graphically it’s really solid, it’s far from a bloom nightmare as most of the time you’re in a blue shade and the HDR bursts are actually really nice. I was a bit disappointed the red colouring faded in and out as objects become relevant, I always assumed they were part of the environment as a hidden paths for the runners. But I guess that makes things accessible and consistent across the same area.

All the first person actions seemed very jerky and too fast. The camera snaps, the hands just seem to appear. I don’t know if this is a PS3 exclusive issue but I expected this to be a lot smoother than it was. And it was the first game where the lack of anti-aliasing really got to me, I imagine this problem won’t be there on the 360 and PC versions, but that doesn’t make it okay... I also couldn’t do the balancing beams using the six-axis, but the six-axis is evil anyway and you can turn it off (I did, in fact).

Gameplay wise I need to factor in some of the traversal animation stuff from above as a negative. I also found the traversal to be a bit too easy for a game about traversal. You just use two buttons except for the 180 wall run and everything seemed to have the word automatic in its description. And even when I did fall I went back about 2 inches. Yeah, accessibility, I’m sure for the target audience this is fine. I admit I had a lot of fun when the demo mission started and this was probably because I nearly did it all in one motion, and this wouldn't happen if the system was more complex.

Despite a few nasty falls and being shot at I never saw any visual clue I was dying. When I pick it back up I’ll experiment to see how the game presents this. I was also told I was building up some gauge I can use to slow down time, but I couldn’t see that represented anywhere either. Maybe I’m just being blind.

I didn’t get to experiment with the NPC’s too much, I vaguely tried to slide-kick someone but missed and then just ran for it. But the disarming stuff I tried out in the tutorial had potential to be really cool. I’ll play it through again tomorrow and try disarming people and fighting back, just to see what the game does about it.

This probably sounds negative, but all in all it was a fun experience and I'll still buy it when it comes out.

Argh, i'm constantly looking for good hook points between the buildings and everytime i fall from a ledge i want to recover with a grappling hook but Faith doesn't have one! I obviously played too much 3D Bionic Commando in the last year.

Game looks very nice in a simplistic way. Reminds me a bit of the test missions in Portal except this is outdoors. The music is also very nice.

Had some trouble with the controls. The button layout confused me and moving tru the game gives me a bit of a Fifa vibe aka press the right button at the right time to activate animation X to perform action Y. It didn't felt as fluid as i was hoping.

I love the look of this now, I wasn't too taken with it to begin with but in time I've grown to like the art style. One thing I don't like is how the interactive elements are coloured red, it just looks a bit crappy imho.

I guess you guys already realise that the PC version will most likely have DRM since this is another EA game

Very impressed after playing the PS3 demo. I think this is the most comfortable first-person game I've played on a console yet, and it really does seem like they've managed to conquer the concept of translating the intricate player control of a third-person game into a first-person experience.

It does baby you a little, but I think if it were any trickier it'd lose the seamlessness and not seem so natural. I don't share Taylor's concerns about the animation being jerky or anything to be honest — I thought it was great and realistic.

This kind of feels like an FPS milestone to be honest. While the sheer flexibility of the player wouldn't fit into a lot of FPS games (I can't imagine a hulking great space marine moving around the world in such an gymnastic fashion), I can see a lot of the approaches in Mirror's Edge finding their ways into FPS games at large — even if it's just the basic stuff like sliding along the ground and vaulting over things.

Also it'll be fucking amazing if DICE themselves do some of this in the inevitable Battlefield 3.

I think it was said somewhere that DICE was bringing Mirror's Edge's mechanics to the Battlefield series. And yes, I do agree, it will be fucking amazing.

Also, demo was great, pretty much agree with what Thrik said. Any more difficult it may lose its fluidity, though I still wonder what it would be like if you had discrete button presses for every single action.

Yeah i liked the demo a lot. Ifeel like not only does the game have potential, but they are doing an interesting branding/identity on it as well.

Looks like they're pushing this pretty aggressively. I've actually seen Mirror's Edge billboards here, which is relatively uncommon for games — even the biggest ones.

Hopefully it gets the acclaim it looks like it deserves and encourages EA to continue with its support of innovation!

Pretty much got through the entire game in one sitting, not that I think that's necessarily a bad thing, it doesn't overstay its welcome.

However I do agree with what most reviews have been complaining about, the trail and errorness of it. I definitely found myself grotesquely frustrated in parts, only to be pumping with adrenaline a minute later. It's a very uneven experience most of the time. When it works, it REALLY works, but when it doesn't, its absolutely horribly frustrating. I had a section of some narrow jumps and wall runs that shouldn't be hard considering what I had done earlier in the game, but I had to redo it around 30 times before I got it right. After something like that you would just wanna throw it away, but then it usually gets good so quickly afterwards.

Anyway, kinda uneven in the gameplay department, presentation is fucking amazing. I played the 360 version which is supposedly a tiny bit inferior to the PS3 version, but it still looked great (A tiny bit more contrasty than the PS3 version, maybe).

But its good overall, I'm going through the time trails now which are pretty good for a something extra, might go through it again on Hard later on. One might argue that its not that good value for money when your more or less done after 6 hours, but I've recently started appreciating games that dont overstay their due. Dead Space did that, and although I still like it, then having it be 3 hours shorter wouldn't have hurt.

I absolutely love the look of that game.

Fun fact, miskowsky used to compete for Sweden in snowboarding before she became a singer.
