it's gonna take a while, we're all graduating right now. plus, this place and the garden have been left for dead for years, so it's filled with trash, and it was completely overgrown with plants before i went berserk. but we're gonna have a swimming pool, a trampoline (next to the pool), a porch with hammocks and a ping pong table, and lots of plants

hmm i think about getting a projector for a home cinema. There is this relatively new german company who offers a 720p lcd projector for only ~500 Euro and they got some decent reviews. Usualy these things cost twice the price and full HD projectors cost even more.Would be quite a big investment for me but still its quite tempting. I watch a lot of movies so i would really love to see them in a big ass ratio. Would also be cool for playing games from my bed. Anyone here own a projector?

I used to have an NEC projector, LT series I think. Most of the time it was hooked to my computer or a PS3. Although it isn't really HD, it still looked pretty awesome. (I think its native res was 1024x768?)

Unless you don't mind only using it during the night(or don't mind the contrast being pretty weak), be sure to put it in a room with no windows. Even a small amount of ambient light really kills it. Although we were just projecting it onto a white wall, no screen, so I'm sure that hurt the contrast when lighting wasn't flawless. (see below about being poor college kids ) Honestly, gaming was fine for the most part during the day. Didn't look the best, but that doesn't matter as much as with a movie.

We had it running for around a year and a half before the bulb died, and no one wanted to pitch in to get a replacement because we're broke ass college students. It's still set up, just doesn't work. The bulb really lasted a long time, it had an enormous amount of hours on it before it gave out, well over 2000.

Hmm, doing the math, there are roughly 13000 hours in a year and a half, and the projector was on for over 2000 of those hours. That is 15% of the time!!!

Thankfully, other than the occasional movie and a month or so of playing fallout 3, most of it was used by one of my roommates for ps3 games... terrible ones too. Like sonic unleashed.

For what it's worth, there is nothing like a projector for gaming. Fallout 3 was glorious on the projector, really helped the immersion factor. The expansive wasteland really looked expansive

For movies, its nice having the theater. I'm usually fine with a big TV, but for that house it was perfect. There was always 5-10 people around, so we had a full theater setup two tiers of couches and chairs Comfortably sat 10.

The next room over was the bar, and downstairs was the climbing wall. We had plenty of fun with lumber in that house

Unfortunately some other investments came up (need a suit for my cousins marriage). I think i will wait until autumn with the projector but its definately on my list of things that i want.

I used to live with some friends and we all bought a projector together, and you can't put a price on those things. It makes watching movies so much more enjoyable, especially if you have a few friends over. I'd say borrow a suit, ask around, and buy the projector anyway. It's one of those things you cannot imagine missing if you haven't had one, like DVD quality before you ever watched a DVD. But just watch a movie on VHS now....

    This is just from the top of my head;

Open source, and all the benefits from that.

Lots of phone running the same software, so eventually more people will use it (the os; android), which in turn will make more stuff available to it since more and more people will develop software for it.

Google market (free healthy competition, no screening).

    Automatic updates.

    Faster hardware. (on most phones).

    Better camera (on some phones).

Everyone in the firm I work used to have an iPhone, a couple of months ago one dude bought HTC Hero and slowly but steadily everyone here has one now (except me, because I got a new phone JUST BEFORE htc released this stuff). And they all think that the HTC Hero is a great improvement over the iPhone, simply because it can do everything an iPhone can do and more. AND it has the potential to do a lot more.

What he means is that I should google for it and search the info for myself. Sentura, always a nice guy to have around.

HTC Hero looks good indeed, but I'm skeptical if it really is better than the iPhone.
