How hard have you pushed yourself because of your work?

That sounds pretty fucked up kfs. I remember zaphod complaining about abusive crunch times at Troika as well.

Raven was pretty suck, then?

Seems so.

Yeh, scrap that one from the "Companies to send CV" list!

When it comes to Quake, despite all we went through I still tend to defend Raven and - most importantly - the team to this day. I wouldn't wish that 3-way struggle of a dev cycle on anyone but I wouldn't trade the experience I had for anything. I'm very fortunate to still be able to name 4 people from that team among my colleagues to this day.
Raven as a whole, like any other studio, has a variety of goods and bads. I'm sure anyone here who has switched studios could tell you the same. Don't let the broken ramblings of specific case spoken by a bitter shell of a man sway your opinion of the whole place - there's a lot of good people there.

I heard Raven took it's employees to cinema for IronMan.

Quote from Steppenwolf
My ears got a bit damaged when i was in the army because it was so fucking loud in the tanks even with ear protection. I don't hear as good on my left ear since then and sometimes have a pressure on it.
I can relate. Spending time around 30kw generators and humvees has done enough to screw mine up.

I went to a doc and took x-rays of my backbone this week. I was pretty shocked at how it's crooked. Now I'll have to do therapy to fix my posture for a year at least + practise an sport (swimming probably). The doc told me I will be disabled in less than 10 years if I don't do anything about it. He was probably just trying to scare the shit out of me... but he was pretty successful

hmm wow :-|
Good that you saw a doctor mino, I hope you'll get better soon.

I have had a burnout from working so I have learned my lesson. Now I take a 5 min-10min break after every houre of working. It keeps my mind fresh and keeps me calm. I think you better keep yourself in a good shape because there will be times you have to push yourself like everybody says and like you have felt. So dont forget to have respect for you body. Because working like crazy cant be possible for many years. Better to prepare yourself for much more years. "Just my opinion

The most I've pushed myself was probably around the beta of Kane & Lynch, worked from 09:00 to about 03:00 3 days in a week and since I lived so far away I also slept in there. Was definitely needed at the time, but I'm surely not doing that again, you end up doing more mistakes than good when you sit and do it that long. However, there were a couple of other guys that stayed pretty late too so it was actually kinda cozy

I can relate to ginger lord on backbreaking physical labor. I've been killing myself for Discount Tire Co. since August last year and it's just unbelievable. 8am to 6pm is a full shift, you get a 30 minute lunch break if you're there for 8 hours or more, and when you're available anytime like me you'll always work 5 days a week (though I've worked 6 days straight several times.)

I remember there was a time period when I was working at Ubisoft, I had just moved to a new project and they placed my desk next to the windows. Sounds nice at first, but unfortunately the windows were right next to these massive powerlines outside. And I had CRT monitor which resultingly started to flicker like a motherfucker at an extremely unpleasant speed. I had to work like that for about 2 weeks until they gave me a flat screen monitor which fixed the problem. It sucked. As far as overtime goes, I've never had much of a problem with it. I did *some* overtime on rainbow six vegas, worked a few weekends here and there, but that was it. I think i've been lucky so far.
