Their whole "choose your preferred controller" thing is BS though, as it's already been confirmed some of the moves won't be feasible on the gamepads. Oh and that wheel is priced at 15 USD, which is a total ripoff for a piece of plastic.

This is where nintendo makes up for not selling a 400$+ system... They riddle you with must buy addons to play the games....

I think Mario Kart DS is fine for me. Apart from the piece of plastic they include then it looks like any other 3D Mario Kart :G

yeah i am not getting this. i'd rather get a real racing game than play any more mario kart on a stationary console. mariokart is fun on ds though.

I'll get it because it has online play, which is something I've sorely missed since I got a new router that hates my DS. Mario Kart online is superb.

man some mario kart hate on this forum

I think it looks like a decent sequel.. though after this I can't really see them doing anymore with this franchise... mario kart galaxies? racing spaceships or something?

    What i see different is:

    -new items

    -new tracks

    -new vehicles

-online play (this one being the reason to buy I would think)

yeah DS mario kart has online play but I dont really like the interface of that online playing.

i dont think there's any more hate here than there is over any other gimmick game for any other console.

I hope the online works better than Brawl. It would be game of the fucking year if it's playable but I really see no way of that working out.

Yeah, snaking really pissed me off in Mario Kart DS. It's just not proper racing IMO, regardless of whether or not it's simply using the tools given to you.

I look forward to this because:

    [*]
[*:1n4z7q18]I loved Double Dash (GameCube Mario Kart)
[*:1n4z7q18]Online Mario Kart DS is superb apart from the annoying 'lobby' and snaking
[*:1n4z7q18]It has new maps and classics, like Mario Kart DS did
    [*:1n4z7q18]It's Mario Kart[/list]

lol see I'm with you Thrik.

I have such fond memories of playing Super Mario Kart with my dad that they probably have me for life.. but I guess that's where you guys have a point.. it's not really innovating upon itself too much with this one (so it seems.. unlike Double Dash).. and it's more appealing to people who already know the game and know what to expect and hey guess what? it's online now.

I don't think Double Dash actually innovated or changed much, sure you could have two people on one cart...but who ever used that? Everyone just plays by themself with a CPU vs their mates and CPU's.

Yeah, Double Dash was very similar to Mario Kart 64 but just did everything a lot more fancily. Most of the maps were even based on Mario Kart 64 maps, which made for some nice nostalgia.

In fact, nostalgia is another huge factor of Mario Kart for me. It's awesome playing a game absolutely packed with things that take me back to being about 8 years old, but refined; the fact that classic maps are included takes it even further. Some people might see that as boring and lacking inspiration, but I guess you have to enjoy Nintendo games in general to understand (seeing as most are series that've been running for well over 15 years).

It's kind of like how James Bond reused the same elements time after time, but you grew to enjoy that familiarity and convention and thus didn't mind. But of course you wouldn't want every film maker to do it.

Its also one of those games absolutely anyone can play and anyone can win. If some mates come over we can all gather round the Wii and play MK64 or Double Dash and despite me having a bit more knowledge of the tracks they can win with gratuitious use of power ups, its a universal game.

lol we used to use that.

so it's all comin down to the game is only slightly changing not really innovating but more refined without losing touch with it's past iterations.

I also like to see old class tracks either reinvisioned (rainbow road) or just revisited like the basic track you always get reminiscent of like the mario loops.

I guess it really has become a nostalgic series.

I'm gonna try this out for sure, probably have to go to my brother's house though since I don't have a Wii anymore
