Yojimbo Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 Hi, A couple of questions about rotation objects using the selection tool: - Can I change the axis about which the object rotates? Rotating about the centre is pretty useless when trying to align the edges. - Can I rotate in smaller increments than the default? Thanks
Low Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 You can use ctrl+m to rotate with more accuracy but from what I hear you only want to really rotate at incriments of 15 degrees. As for which axis, you can rotate an object on all the of them (x,y,z); you just can't rotate an object for a specific point, I'm fairly certain you can only rotate it from the center. I think you were wondering more so if you could rotate an object from a certain point, but if you're wondering how to rotate on a different access just rotate it in a different view or use ctrl+m.
Defrag Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 1. Yes you can, but more in a roundabout fashion. A convenient way I picked up to do this (nicked from Dave Johnston's very-useful-but-now-defunct blog) is to use brushes to shift the origin and then rotate the brushes. It's more fiddly than using a proper pivot function and possibly not what you're looking for, but it's worth a look nonetheless. http://blog.johnsto.co.uk/?action=view&id=94 2. Hold shift when rotating.
hessi Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 to rotate in smaller than 15° you need to hold shift while rotating e: damn you defrag
Yojimbo Posted September 16, 2006 Author Report Posted September 16, 2006 Thanks everyone. Pity about the pivot location, seems like a pretty obvious thing to include. Oh well.
