I got a Gamasutra newsletter today. Most of the time, I admit I ignore It's contents but this one catched my eye. It contains a link for a survey, 2008 Game Developer Salary Survey

Go ahead and do it as well, I'm very curious to see the final results: http://surveys.supersurvey.com/survey-b ... /s32276.pl

Dear Gamasutra.com Reader,

The editors of Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra.com invite you to complete the annual Game Developer Salary Survey. The information you provide will help inform the entire game development community.

The results of this survey will be published in the April 2009 issue of Game Developer magazine.

In appreciation of your time and effort, once you complete the survey, your name will be entered into a drawing to win a Main Conference Pass for your choice of the lineup of Game Developers Conference (GDC) events in 2009: GDC in San Francisco, GDC Canada, GDC Europe, GDC Austin, or GDC China. To access the contest rules, click here.

The survey takes approximately 5-7 minutes to complete. Access the survey, and register for the GDC Main Conference Pass drawing here.

This survey is anonymous, and none of the information presented will be associated with any individuals. Your input is critical to the credibility of this annual study, and we thank you for your participation and support.

Sincerely,

Brandon Sheffield and the Editorial Staff of

Actually it was based on this survey that Ubi suddenly bumped designers and artists 15% a couple years back as they suddenly realized the pay was sub-par. So yes I encourage everyone to fill that one up, you never know what you may get...

good survey thanks!

If u guys didn't notice, level design or world builder is never acknowledged.

I know I'm moving into more avenues from this changing profession.

i guess it would fall under "game designer"

I really don't trust this at all lol, since when do artists get more than designers on average? :)

Neverthe less, if these are average wages to be expected at some point in a long career it's not all that bad.

The survey is not very helpfull as long as its not broken up into different regions and countries.

The numbers are way too high to give any indication for average salaries in europe.

The average for QA in this for example is higher then the overall average income in sweden.

These can't be averages, unless only Californians answered the poll. And with their cost of living, shave off 20K to get a reasonable ballpark figure for the rest of the US and Canada.
