-HP- Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 I got a Gamasutra newsletter today. Most of the time, I admit I ignore It's contents but this one catched my eye. It contains a link for a survey, 2008 Game Developer Salary Survey Go ahead and do it as well, I'm very curious to see the final results: http://surveys.supersurvey.com/survey-b ... /s32276.pl Dear Gamasutra.com Reader, The editors of Game Developer magazine and Gamasutra.com invite you to complete the annual Game Developer Salary Survey. The information you provide will help inform the entire game development community. The results of this survey will be published in the April 2009 issue of Game Developer magazine. Furyo Posted February 17, 2009 Report Posted February 17, 2009 Actually it was based on this survey that Ubi suddenly bumped designers and artists 15% a couple years back as they suddenly realized the pay was sub-par. So yes I encourage everyone to fill that one up, you never know what you may get... Quote
Steppenwolf Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 Done. Always good to know what ones actual worth is in this industry. Certainly helpfull when it comes to negotiations. Quote
Warby Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 done ! i never realized how under paid i was until the gamasutra surveys but finally thanks to ioi i am getting what the average leveldesigner my age gets Quote
Grinwhrl Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 good survey thanks! If u guys didn't notice, level design or world builder is never acknowledged. I know I'm moving into more avenues from this changing profession. Quote
kleinluka Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 good survey thanks! If u guys didn't notice, level design or world builder is never acknowledged. I know I'm moving into more avenues from this changing profession. i guess it would fall under "game designer" Quote
robert.briscoe Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 The results are in: http://kotaku.com/5233490/so-how-much-d ... opers-make As an artist I have to say I feel rather depressed now... Any artists here getting $69,532 a year?! Quote
2d-chris Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 I really don't trust this at all lol, since when do artists get more than designers on average? Neverthe less, if these are average wages to be expected at some point in a long career it's not all that bad. Quote
JohnC Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 But different countries have different set wages, labor laws, and currency... Quote
Steppenwolf Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 The survey is not very helpfull as long as its not broken up into different regions and countries. The numbers are way too high to give any indication for average salaries in europe. The average for QA in this for example is higher then the overall average income in sweden. Quote
Hourences Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Their real report prolly has in depth info, but you got to pay for that I think. But yeah, these numbers are utterly useless. Quote
Furyo Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 These can't be averages, unless only Californians answered the poll. And with their cost of living, shave off 20K to get a reasonable ballpark figure for the rest of the US and Canada. Quote
PhilipK Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 europe avg artist: ~43k europe avg design: ~40k from what i extracted. Quote
Patrick_H Posted April 30, 2009 Report Posted April 30, 2009 Yeah I agree those averages are useless, besides learning that the worker bee masses made more this year than in years past. I hope the paid survey results break that down by country or region. Quote
