Wow! Those look amazing! Are you eventually gonna release the player models?

So how have y'all been fairing so far in your journeys to make a map?
I was having a little problem with the lighting in my map since it's in an abandoned building and It doesn't have lights on. Often times, these places have some natural light that is still there, but that doesn't happen in the CS:GO engine. So I came up with a solution: I now have lots of dark grey light sources that keep the area decently lit, but do a good job at making it look like there is natural ambient light like in real life as opposed to being pitch black. (Though, I do need to tweak it a bit)

Probably just any theme that isn't something we've already seen, such as Dust 2 with it's Moroccan theme, Train with it's industrial theme, Overpass with it's park and canal theme, ect.
Just try and be original with your idea. Perhaps a big ol' mine with cables and metal panels hung up on the walls by wooden frames everywhere, or a friendly 1980's lookin' neighborhood, or an ancient brickworks facility from the 1800's, or a fish cannery, ect. You get the idea, just go crazy with something that we haven't experienced yet.

I can't wait to see what you make!

Here is the map if you need to see whether art is too far to be considered: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi…/?id=1690431421
I believe there was a rule in the contest description that stated that people couldn't submit maps that are publicly available. So I think you may just have to make a new map from scratch.

Hmm. It was based off the information booth in the place I based it off of, but now that I look at it twice, I can see the similarities.

I hope we do see some nice hostage maps from this. It's a fun game mode!

I assume it also unfortunately means you cant have your map just be a grey warehouse full of crates either, oh wait no thats a good thing to.
Assuming this is true, then that's good news for me then! Abandoned 60's mall, here I come! ?

First draft of the layout is done. With lots of shops, maintenance tunnels, and hallways. (Though the hallways aren't quite as long because of the asbestos tarps.)
My problem in the past was really just that I kept the layouts too simple, but I just hope I didn't create the opposite problem.

I'd love to, primarily because I could certainly use a good modeler for a handful of props or so.

I don't see why not, give it a go

Well well well… This will be where I post updates on my map that I'll be making for the contest.
Alright so here's the theme:
So here's my map idea: de_dixon is set at an abandoned mall called Dixon Square, located in Canada (Eh?). Build in the 60's, it used to be an icon. But as times changed and crime increased, the place closed. decades later, a big company has bought the mall and is in the process of removing asbestos to renovate the place to become a department store. Thousands of dollars have already been spent on the project and the local organised crime ring have gotten word of this. Now they aim to destroy the decaying building of the former mall to cripple the company.
If you manage to figure out where this place will be based on, you get a personal tour by me when it's in a playable state X3 Here's a little hint:

My guess is that the theme just has to be something we've never seen before. Like perhaps a snowy construction site, or a mine site in a forest, or heck even a 1970's style fish factory with big ole sawblades everywere is exotic in my eyes because it's certainly original ?

Oh my goodness! I guess de_border is gonna be halted for a while. I've got to join!

This is rather true, and also reminds me that I really need to get rid of the habit of making maps that are basically "Dust 2 but with more corners and an extra room or two" ?

I really like the amount of verticality in those screenshots, it's something I've yet to learn when it comes to map making.
