They are bitching how de_rails is bad. Its just reddit attitude. They don't know how hard is to make something enjoyable that is why they are bitching so hard about everything. Gratz again for everyone :)

I also loved how some LEM said Resort has a "COD design", I guess they are so pro they never even played leagues where CPL_Fire was popular :D

But yeah, reddit is full of whiners.

Congratulations on the nice maps. I was honestly suprised to see Log and Rails, and I always hoped Season and Agency would return - at least Season better stay forever!

Sadly, my private bet about new maps for the operation only got halfway through (I bet Resort, Zoo, St.Mary and TornTown)

Any update on this map? I am really curious about this project.

I am too much of a pessimist to see the potentially good things this could bring. RIP passion-driven modding.

We played some casual game with bots, 1 player and 4 bots on each side. Sometimes all of the bots would rush and hectic firefights would assume on the site, and it happened maybe 2 times that my brother fell back then. Usually around the small bridges leading to the sub itself. The main problem I see is that the bomb can fall into the water, though - not nice to lose as a T through that. Maybe expand the area around the bridges a bit, but leave the bombing zones they are so you ensure that the bomb is likely to fall into water?

I am not arguing that *all* of the water should go, I liked some of 1.6's deathtraps

Maybe there is some kind of compromise that can be found?

I like the design ideas of bomb sites A and B and the big mirror room of B bombsite, but especially B might need some work. The water is 1HKO and I can see a lot of people falling down there. At least that Silver Elite brother of mine did when we played a few rounds on it for fun. Also echoing what others have said: A bit bland in the corridors, but otherwise fun.

Tbh i quite like the rather unique nature of the bombsites on Chateau, but of course they should be a bit simplified and made more competitive. Same goes for the theme, it would be disappointed to see see Chateau not taking place at a chateau.

Difference is, back in CSS and 1.6 before Valve's MM, competitive scene used to exist but the biggest part of playerbase were playing the game for fun. All the maps were fun.

In CS:GO, all people care about is how to keep their rank, AKA make all the maps balanced.

Exactly: Rats, kz, jb, zombie mods, warcraft/superhero mods, unbalanced but enjoyable maps... they were all there along with a community build around custom servers. Nowadays it's just skins and ranking contest, even for the casual crowd.

I would have thought of 3D_Mike's holland map, but I've found this

    http://counterstrike.wikia.com/wiki/Rotterdam

That's the one I keep finding, but the one I meant was set in the historical inner city and featured a few bridges over a river. It was a bit like Coldwater in the CSGO Workshop in terms of style.

Maybe a long shot, but are you thinking of de_deadlock? http://cs.gamebanana.com/maps/158085

    Oh wow, yes!

We always played it as Rotterdam on the LAN, though - someone must have renamed it. My heartfelt gratitude to you, I'm glad I was able to rediscover it after all these years

Anyway, I feel like many maps do not get made or have their potential wasted by not being played due to the current way map selection works in CSGO. The importance of a competitive pool is undeniable, but in reality this leads to a heavy focus on a few maps while all others basically get neglected. Just look at the achievements, not even 4% of the players won 100 rounds on Aztec, which is arguably one of the most popular old maps and a true CS classic. I wish the voting system would be more akin to Garry's Mod, featuring a larger list, flexible voting and (iirc) a ban on the map that was played the last time for the current voting (I am looking at you, Dust 2).

If Valve added this and actually changed up the Active Duty every season in a bigger way while continuing to improve competitive play on other maps it would lend to a far more diverse gamign experience. Alas, that seems impossible in the current situaion. The best we can hope for is for Valve to extend the pool since a few pros recently expressed that BO5 would be a viable option for at least the final of big tournaments.

There was also a map set in Rotterdam we used to play on LANs back in the day, but whenever I google Rotterdam I only get the old, official one.

I think I have an old, cracked version used for LANs on an old harddrive here, with 200+ maps. Maybe I should try to install that baby again and find some hidden gems.

And what happened to Rats maps anyway? They used to be a fun staple of the CS community, at least in my region.

There are many oldschool maps I miss playing on a regular basis.

Piranesi, Chateau, Prodigy, Havana, Survivor, 747, Fastline, Airstrip, Vegas...

Some custom maps I really enjoyed back in 1.6 were maps like Cs_shogun_final (http://cscz.gamebanana.com/maps/172913, I honestly could see someone remaking both this and Truth into a single, new map) and I was overjoyed to see really old maps like Thunder, Siege and Back alley at least making it into an operation. Valve should have kept these three in Reserve Rotation imho, they make for fun pubs.

Now, if only we had a good Havanna, Piranesi, Chateau, Prodigy and Truth ports....

You need to add more connectors, I would suggest looking at de_hotel_gellert_(original) for inspiration.

No, it wont be in the middle of the sea, but probably not at port either. Although not set in stone, my initial idea is to have it sailing near some nice coastal city with hopefully some nice monuments or mountains. Something like this, but I am still open to ideas so if anyone has good ref images of places I would love to see them.

Following up on my Hurghada ship name suggestion, here are some pictures of the city and its surroundings:

You could disregard the port building, but use the promenade and the mosque as inspirations.

How about Hurghada? It's a city at the Red Sea coast and a famous tourist attraction, fitting for a cruise ship.
