@NihiL If you haven't done so yet, optimize your map, that should fix a lot of things. Once upon a time I didn't optimized my maps, the result : 2-3h to compile. Now that I've learned to optimize, it takes less than 5 minutes on the same maps and fps is consistently better in game. That's when I knew how huge it makes a difference. (However, I'm not saying an optimized map always takes a few minutes to compile, but when it take an hour or so, it is when it is as polished as operation maps, for instance.)

After trying the "new" Dota Reborn, i can't even tell the difference besides the fact that this version does not support Azerty or keybinding, does not save options and has a terrible UI. Trust me, you don't want Source 2 now

They do know that the cs community isn't very progressive, so they need to figure it out nicely before they introduce it, but they won't make a new counter strike, economics wise it would be the most terrible choice

And there will be a french revolution to gain Azerty support

Cool stuff

I wonder if they're planning to "port" other Source games to Source 2 as well (for example CSGO
).Csgo will be ported to source 2, it has too many success, and the community is really hard to move from one counter strike to another, also 3kliksphilip has some good point about the limitations they will put for cs go, have you seen his video about that?

Maybe for games like fps, they could make you train your aim in a mini level while it loads. The issue there would be that it could significantly make loading very long

In rpg's you could imagine something like that too, or managing your inventory. But same here about performances

However, I do have to agree that not knowing is horrible, it's like when your computer reboot after an update and it displays a black screen and you cannot know if it is stuck or whatever.. you don't know for how long you're going to wait!

Try not to, but if it's a massive rework don't bother, my source maps where never that clean and they ran fine, source is running at like 200 fps for most people these days, a few faces here and there isn't going to kill it.
Who are these people? :o I barely manage to run official maps at 60fps and my computer isn't that shitty :o
@Sirlock it is a good idea to avoid brushes overlapping, it saves a huge amount of compiling time and it makes debugging a map much simpler (trust me, I've been there..). Also, cleaning it up can make you have some good ideas for the area , since you have to think the area differently

@Squad I didn't think about no-draw brushes like that, that's clever! Because curves sometimes cannot be either func_detail or models because you'd want them to seal the map, but your method allow that, so thanks!
So far I tried to place hints to fit curves, sometimes it has the effects that it does not create any unwanted visleaves, thus simplifying a lot visibility calculation, but it does not work every time. If I learn the logic I'll share because it could be pretty useful

In a nutshell: hint brushes, areaportals, model draw distances and big lightmaps

It's generally a good idea to place large horizontal hint brushes in your map that cover the whole map and are 128 units from each other. Like the picture below.

If you want more information about that (and other techniques) you should read will2k's Man vs Engine, which is pretty much a must-read for everyone working with the Source engine. Grab it here!
Thanks I've already read that, but I suppose I'll re read it, because I must have missed some things. Thanks for the answer. By the way, does this also mean that everything above possible sightlines is func_detail? The only thing that will2k didn't covered, is how to optimize levels with curves, which can be a limit of the source engine..
On a side note, I do have to admit, that while I am trying to transform my map to be as realistic as yours in the sense that it wouldn't be just corridors etc, I realize that it requires a real talent. A talent you seem to have, being able to do it greatly in this map.
So.. yeah, impressive work
looking forward to the next one by the way! -
@Squad your level is kinda "open", with a lot of space only used for nades (windows etc ), what's your secret for its optimization ? It amazes me how smooth it runs, considering that fact!
-
Yes I saw that, but I will just have to delete games that I've already finished
I have the minimum specs for the witcher 3 so it should run then, thanks
-
Then I'm out of ideas, except tweaking your func_detail, as in group everything and making it a func_detail to see what does it gives you

-
Speaking about Wolfenstein the new order, I thought about trying it, but it is kinda unclear what specs are required, I mean it says the minimum is an i7 processor for example, but for the old blood which is more recent, an i5 is the minimum, so is it as demanding as the witcher 3, hardware wise?
-
Have you checked visleaves in-game with mat_leafvis or something like that, or in hammer with loading portal file in the edition submenu if I remember right?
-
I had the same issue, for me it was caused by a misplaced hint which caused the engine to have trouble figuring out what was going on there visibility wise, have you had yellow warnings like like that?
-
Just resize your image to 1240x1240 in gimp, you'll lose image quality but it should be work, that's how I do it and I haven't had any problems

-
Does your monitor handle the 1280x1024 resolution?

The only way to fully protect your map is...
QuoteTo never publish it

I have to disagree on one fact, the sole purpose of governments is not to do what people want but to do what is best for the people they are representing.
The issue nowadays is that they do what's best for the 1% richest people...

Look at Skybex maps from the last operation, he even gave us his vmf's but the most deviant like me are only using his glass texture as dev textures and as reference to know how to do it ourselves

People in Ukraine are basically the same as everyone else in the world, they have a miserable life in a shitty world, and their response is to open to a new alternative.
First of all you don't have to kill people to be dangerous, many politicians are the living proof of that.
Secondly, since when people knows what is best for them and for the world?
I'm not saying that western politician are better because they are basically the same for most of them.
What I'm saying is that it seems that Putin is crossing some lines and no one is saying anything about that, that leaves Ukrainians in chaos. But what we do know is that we do not know what he will do next.
Finally I have known some refugees from other areas in conflict with Russia for the same reason for decades, and I kinda think that they are right when they fear it is the start of something bad
-
@Vorontsov you can also see that Crimea invasion is a power play from Putin, and it must be stopped, like Hitler must have been stopped when annexing new territory. I do not say that Putin is like Hitler, I do hope it is not the case, and it probably isn't, but you can't let someone that eager for power to do whatever he wants..
