First of, don't forget to indicate where spawns and objectives are, even if we can guess bombsites are the two orange rectangles.

secondly, this seems very clean, which is good. Layout seem a bit complicated sometimes, but I won't say anything more until I can play the map, because verticality often simplify everything.

Thirdly, you textured only one room, is it to test something or is it a guideline for the rest of the level? Have you some pictures in your head or as references? I ask because I am afraid you're going for something too "industrious".

Finally, if you want, you can ignore the third remark, as it is too soon to think about too much details :)

I like getting feedback for my maps. What I don't enjoy is "I never liked the hostage game mode and I don't think this map will work with it". Why? Surely just a mere explanation of why you think this map may not succeed would increase my chances of being able to "patch" it up so that it does work?

    dude, forget it.

By the way, randomness does not require any skill, it is by definition ... random.

@ScottehBoeh, remains the fact that you should be aware that you made people a bit edgy, when you weren't listening or appearing to listen to what people said. This is mainly why people overreacted concerning your "collaboration" with other mappers.

So bear in mind that feedback is given to improve things, and if someone feel the need to say something, it is worth listening even if it is your map.

On an another note, it seems that it is still more fitted for insurgency than cs go (what Vorontsov and other said), fact that you shouldn't forget about.

@Skybex as Vaya said, it does look good, so that's worth it. Also I don't know where you live, but here in France, heat is causing computers to lose a lot performances wise, so maybe the jump is accented by that?

On what computer does it run at 200 fps in ultra settings, with a high resolution and a proper sound system? :)

I also forgot about A and B long. You really need hints and skips there if you don't already.

I think everything up to 144 is reasonable because people have 144 hz monitors and i can clearly see a difference in a 60 hz and an 144 hz monitors and if you have less FPS than your monitor hz it gets kinda weird. especially in CS:GO.

Are you serious? Movies are shot at 50 frame per second at best, and you already see things really smooth. Besides the difference is probably the same it is between 720p and 1080p, it's always better in 1080p but the choice that presents itself is: either you have a slightly worse resolution but you can push the amount of details up to the resolution, or you have a slightly better resolution but with less details to show. This is why I think 60-70 fps is sufficient enough, especially when you know how much details you can add with that extra computing power ( aesthetically it can make a huge difference)

But it isn't my map, so it is not my decision to make, I just wanted to provide a point of view to help him deciding the more wisely possible.

They're liars if they tell you they see the difference between 100 fps and 150 fps, even with 80 fps. And even if you can see the difference, the amount of details you could add with the equivalent of 60-80fps is gigantic. Well it's your choice, but bear in mind that people who actually have this kind of monitor often try to have a great Gpu and cpu, so their performances may allow them to have better fps than you do ( I don't know about your specs but it is a possibility)

Do not see fps like the more the better, but see it as the potential to add details. It just gives you room to improve your map, and if it runs at 60 fps with setting maxed out and on a 720p monitor on a good Gpu then you don't have to do much more :)

What time is it? I'll try to be there early enough to have a slot :)

Season opening of Mr Robot, would recommend!

I planned to watch it tonight, but I wanted to ask anyway: does it live up to expectations? (I mean, it was rated 9 stars on imdb, while it wasn't even out yet for instance...)

I would suggest making it a more generic metro rather than London underground as the station bears little resemblance to any London Underground station I have ever been to.

He hasn't detailed it yet, so it is hard for it to resemble real metro station a lot.

But I do agree that London Underground isn't the most interesting setting, you could go for an old setting like Moscow subway, which is magnificent, or if you prefer with a more modern style, like subways in Japan for instance, it would be more clean and futuristic, and less look like the usual maps!

I remember this map from a certain time ago, one of the reason I bought the game was to play on such maps

glad you submit an old map of yours while making the effort of reworking it all!

The reason arrays can be faster is because of the way cache works on a computer. If you are iterating along an array the elements are contiguous in memory. This means when you want element n from the array the computer is probably grabbing element n and the next m elements and putting them in a cache line. So when you need element n + 1, the computer already put that element in cache when you fetched element n. Now it can get element n + 1 from cache instead of RAM. Getting an item from cache is much faster than RAM. A linked list on the other hand could have each element in a completely different place in RAM which means when you pull the value, unrelated data will be loaded into cache and you will have the slower RAM access speed far more often than when using an array.

    Does that make sense?

As for speeding up a process by writing in a language closer to machine code. I personally would say that the language doesn't matter as much as being able to control memory layout of structures and types. Also being able to explicitly control when the destruction of objects occurs.

The issue with higher level languages is that most of them attempt to automatically handle object destruction for you. If they do cleanup at a bad time you will have framerate issues.

It doesn't make sense, but I understand why it is better now!

Destruction is that costly ? Why?

    Thanks :)

Yes sets, groups, rings, fields, manifolds, vector spaces and algebra. I supoose there are more of them, I only met these ones!

Is this due to the way components are calculating? If so is it really possible to speed up processes by writing in a language the closest to machine code? I heard about someone having a phone with an OS comparable to the first android, but it took a few ko and it was so fast that the processor (not a graphic card) could refresh pixels at an alarming rate, are these considerations important in the game industry?

Offline, it was determining line by line, which line was maximizing the number of passenger, this with two matrix. But I have mainly everything to learn I think.

Are data structures any easier when you have learned mathematical structures?

Wow that's awesome, I'm curious now, what laboratory? So that I know where to search publications.

Do you have insurgency? Maps in this game allow this type of gameplay with a reasonable readability, which is the main drawback it could have. So feel free to check it out :)

@Klems I see what you mean. It's also that mathematics are powerful when you want to simplify calculus, I learned that the hard way, my initial code was theoretically taking 3 years to finish on an IBM supercomputer, then the optimization, which is based on physics, allowed me to have it take a few seconds. However the code is ugly in python, don't know if this language will be of any use ?

@Vaya I was reading a book and I stumbled upon various example of reflecting surfaces. And it does point out that your idea should work perfectly!

Because in this link, the reflections on the red wall are paint reflections and they do look very different. The green stairs are more like it, but the fact that they are a bit translucent shows that plastics or frosted glasses may not be what is best in your case because it isn't translucent a bit.

I'm talking about each side to jump in the bombsite, where there are lights from the floor? Just to know if pathing is reduced to stairs etc.

Well I have some, I'll edit links into this post each time I find one then

First one: might be a little off topic but the setting is in my humble opinion interesting. In addition, it has a similar vibe than one of the references you presented.

Second one: this one might be more like your current references, but it has a different polish, and it looks the best at night, perfect for your idea :)

Third one: A beauty at night too, if you want to place your house in the desert this is a good idea to check this one!

@AlexM which of these two fields were you working on?

That's what I was hoping to do, behind the curtains, working on the base of engines, in order to optimize them the most. Am I wrong to think that it could be kinda like the project I worked on this year, in which I tried to optimize an algorithm, which built bus lines based on statistics?

@Klems you are saying that on the game developing part, there is not much to do, but in the development of engines game developers use there are some opportunities ?
