  • What's going on with your life?

First of, congrats on the baby!

Secondly, I wanted to ask: has anyone ever been at a crossroad in his life, in a time in between two different chapters of his life, not knowing what to do, because one chapter is closed, but the other haven't been opened yet?

  • How do you decide on what to play?

Hey, I would be in your shoes, I'd try to find a few games to involve your daughter, or both your wife and daughter. It will be a few years until I get married and have kids, but my father did that a bit. We had an Xbox so it was definitely easier to play family style :)

Unlike your first project this genuinely looks like a CS:GO map from the radar, this is very big step in the right direction and I glad you decided to restart with the things you learned. Your layout creation skills can finally develop since you have a genuine map, I'm not going to critique it, but to answer your question: yes it is.

P.S. I really hope you did this in Hammer.

I need some critics because I don't know what to change yet about the layout. And while waiting I'm starting to work on the style, and the more I work on it the harder it'll get to change the layout so have at it, and I can provide the BSP if needed!

(and thanks, I take it as a compliment!)

Since I don't know what to change for the layout I am starting to find a style for the map :

@Thrik I strongly think that it should have been preserved since 5 posts isn't that big of a deal, you provide feedback for other older member, or post in general threads or even in extreme off topic, that would have helped people getting more feedback, because when I looked at the ten first thread at the beginning of the week, in the contest section, there were 7 people who only posted in their threads and only there, which is a bit sad, because if everyone would have done that, well it would be awkward ! It is too late to do something now, but this should be said at least one time.

On the spam subject, could it be more the consequence if the more intense flow to the website rather than this software update?

I've always liked flying buttresses and think they would look really cool where CT enters mid from spawn. Probably look way too gothic though.

You could, I think that if you make it like a church with huge tinted glass, it can make sense, especially since castles were sometimes built on existing castles, or around chapels which existed before :)

Well, you already know that your layout is liked by people, and especially since I'm not good at gameplay I won't advise you on that (you're doing great on your own for that), so I'm staying with what I know, which is architecture :) I have rediscovered another book while searching for the other, it's Viollet-le-duc Raisonné (link ). It only covers until the 16th century but there are some really interesting stuff in that. (I won't advise you to read it all, it's roughly a 450Mo pdf.. and it is approximately 5000 pages long if I'm not mistaken, but it is like a dictionnary, so you can search articles on architectural feats which could help you design some things, for instance buttresses which are present in your map)

Of course they are common, they were better than other existing things ;)

I've done both countries and they are different. Materials are the same, but they are still different, like carrots are a bit differents between places. Anyway, I was just expressing my opinion, you don't have to agree. There's a good book for castles architecture, but I don't know if it has been translated :) I'll look that up!

Popular architectoral design was never bound to one nation. Work from successful architects would often be comissioned by royalty from all over Europe, many buildings in Stockholm were for instance designed by french architects in mixed styles. Neuschwanstein (Romanesque Revival) was started in 1869, but is today not finished. Palaces would sometimes take ages to construct and lead architect would change. Hampton Court Palace in England is another good example, where construction begun in 1515 and ended in 1694, which resulted in two different architectoral styles: Tudor and Baroque. My many references from France and Germany could be from either country, the average person can't tell.

As a side note, would anyone guess that de_cbble is set in France?

I can tell and I knew.

It wasn't bound to one nation but to one region, because at that time, what matters the most was resources. You wasn't able to get rocks or woods from too far apart in great quantities, so you had to do what you can with what you had, and that led to choices that made part of the style of buildings. In addition, architects weren't the most important people there, the one with real powers in the decision were those who ordered the building and those who built it.

Which castles have you been visiting?

I think that you should stick to references from only one reduced region, and one short period of time, otherwise it won't be recognizable and make a weird mix

I am seeing that if you want to use mid as a T, you have to control either A, either B entrance, but if you control that good B entrance, might as well going B and not mid :) I'd have to test it with real players though!

There could be a system to say if a post is legit or no (not a spam or anything like that), and you'd need like 5 legit posts on the forum to be allowed to create a thread. This way, there wouldn't be people arriving making their threads and be active only on their threads and not being helpful for other threads. That could help the forum live with more people than just veterans, admins and some regulars. You'll tell me that is probably because of the contest, but I think a contest is pointless if it doesn't help develop the community, that being said I'm not saying the contest is bad, just that it doesn't serve the community as it should.

Hi, I started a new map with what I think is a more classic layout.

visually it is crap, but hey, it is a sort of greybox stage so that's okay. I want to get the layout right before anything else.

    Here's the overview:

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/T84coPQ.jpg]

Here's the overview with bot_show_battlefront 1. I intended to make teams battle before A for the two entries to A. These give a huge advantage to take the bombsite, so there is something interesting to fight for. Connectors for T's to go in Ct's connectors are one way falls (with a bit of health damage to even the advantage). B is accessible with two entries, one self boost and a two man boost, it makes it harder to take. I tried a two battle front mid, don't know too much how it will play though.

    album 2

tell me if anything you want as feedback! Thanks in advance!

If it's not specified, then it's 99% likely to be a 60Hz monitor. And yes yours is at 60 Hertz.

The refresh rate is a frequency, it determines how many frame your monitor will try to display per second. If you have a 60 Hz monitor, each frame is supposed to be displayed during 1000/60 = 16.67 ms (1000 ms in 1 second) but it does not specificaly mean that the frame will have a delay to come or not, and how long it will be. But, because 120 / 144 Hz monitor are supposed to be "gaming" monitor, the reaction time is always good enough (less than 5ms is good).

yes minutederire, you're right it could be possible but it doesn't happen. These high-frequency monitors are expensive, manufacturers don't mess with them with a bad reaction time.

I know it isn't likely, but it was a good example to show the difference between the two. (I just wasn't sure that I was right)
