All of what people Saif but start the layout on a piece of paper, and think ahead the general layout, then depending on your liking you can try a basic layout on your paper, then block it out or directly block something out ![]()

Wow, didn't know about this one. Will try it out later

it's fantastic
I haven't compiled anything since the update but the only remaining thing to pack is the radar which saves some troubles. Before the update only the radar and custom model textures were missing and it already saved me a lot of time

I think there has been a mix-up in the Excel sheet. My playtest date change (which doesn't matter because my map was played anyways) but Laminutederire's map got changed to the same date. Wasn't his supposed to be this Sunday?
I wanted to playtest my map either this thursday or next thursday, so that I'm sure I'll be there, so no worry on my part it's what it's supposed to be for mine.

For my submission, I changed the name, and the suffix is v5. For the download here is new link.

Be mindful that high contrasts in lighting are bad for gameplay

Huge update!
New overview:

What has changed?
The post above explained the expected changes for mid, and here they are, I'll let screens speak for themselves:

During the process of simplification, I reworked connectors a bit and I removed a path which only was used as a flanking path.
B main for T's has especially changed much:
Quote[Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/M1SnoTD.jpg]
this process has led to a complete redesign of b which was much disliked, so it was a win win.
I decided to restrain the upper areas to a window, which sight of line has been worked so that it isn't too overpowered. T's have two options, smoke their way into the plant and only focusing on window, or they can push through the sort of split, to have cover from windows and battle for the site in lower areas. on site I placed only one cover, which is easily molotoved or flashed, so that it isn't used as a camping spot. In images:

Finally the next big change has been the A from T side. It has now its split way earlier, before chokepoints. There are now two distincts paths: the initial chokepoint which is the fastest and hardest path of the two, and the second one, giving a slight advantage for T's, which is weighing against an extra time to get on site. 19 seconds against 11 for short. I don't know if it is too much, I think I can reduce this time to probably 15-16, would that be better?
Any insights about the pertinence of these changes would be appreciated.

@FrieChamp these fact are very specific of Germany, since it is a country with disastrous demographics, which is unique in that way.
For my part, I think that the issue will be solved with the responsibility of the entire human race, rather than Europe or Syria etc.
Greediness is fueled by economics principle which need people to search the largest wealth they can. That means for some refugees what LizardPl said, that means that wars in middle east will go on because it benefits to some people wealth, and so on. We're in an Era of individuals and we need to enter an Era of togetherness through a system which work for the common benefit, rather than individual benefits. This will be hard, not because people are ass holes, some are but not everyone, but because are in general badly educated by these principles. What the society needs is the understanding that if you have to sacrifice your life , it'll be for the common good, and not in vain, and that you should sacrifice your privileges so that other can live better, thus reharmonizing the whole system.

Too fast rotation time is not punishing the team that rotates, so to even this out, you'd have to give them a disadvantage.
What I would do is that I would have two rotation path, one normal through spawns, and a fast one through mid. The longer one would give access to more easily retakes, while the shorter one would give an entrance on the bombsite which is really hard for retakes, with disadvantages of angles for instance. That way if you rotate fast, you are faced with a more complicated and dangerous situation, thus balancing the game.
I'm not a specialist of layout creation though, so you might want to wait for other answers as well, because my idea could be really bad

Hopefully it will help you!

Based on the playtest feedback, I think I should rework mid. That will be the first way to adress flanking, I want to make it easier for T's to hold their end of mid, so as to avoid Ct's rushing in there willy nelly. Also, this is an attempt to make the chokepoint more obvious and more interesting to play, as well as fix the verticality issues in mid. I haven't touched hammer yet, but I'll do that when I'll have good ideas on paper for every changes I need to do (not only for mid, but the whole map).
Here's my proposal for mid in hand drawings, with my explainations:
This an "overview". The idea is to widden this area, add cover in the middle of mid for T's, a bit like on Mirage, to help T's progress and hold angles. The inner areas in red are going to be elevated more to the level of the rest, that'd show that there are two distinct path, while having only a gap of 60 units top (would be a jump reach). connectors for Ct's would be modified a bit to break some angles, and conserve a reasonable rotation time, which would be the same as before after tweakings.

two views of T side:
First one is from the entrance, at the left of the cover. the angle to cover is the entrance 1. Indeed if you can see a Ct on the left, he's basically on the middle of nowhere without any cover. The second one shows the view from the roght of the cover, where a player can hold the angle on the entrance 2, while not being vulnerable from entrance 1.

view from Ct side:
at the left is the corner or entrance 1, and in the right the one from entrance 2 where they can peek dangerously because the wall wouldn't be at a right angle there. however if they fall back they have advantageous angles, to prevent easy take of mid control for T's. This drawing shows where the T's could play.

I hope you'll endulge me my poor drafting skills, and feel free to tell me if you think it's not a good idea, or if it isn't an interesting chokepoint, or if you like that idea! thanks in advance!

@kinggambit that blue and red logo on the gate made think about the Korean Air logo^^
I think what are missing the most are shadows, it feels too unnatural without them I guess. That'd be the main things to fix through a better lighting.
PS: I know it's hard to balance this with readability

Must've forgotten about it, I'll upload it later this evening.
No worry, take your time

Should I be worried that I have everything excepting the demo file?

Isn't the face changing something that just happens as graphics get better? His face isn't that different.
Lara went through a similar thing, I can't remember anyone complaining about it really?
that's because people were too busy complaining her beasts were smaller

I appreciate the serious discussion guys. I mean it.
For the record, @jackophant, I'm not claiming the problem is Europe. Of course, the source is the instability in the region, something that needs to be dealt with. Having ever body move here isn't a option. I'm also not blind to the financial repercussions this has. However, I'm mad about our policies and lack of effort in trying to save those people. They say it's too expensive but throwing billions down a bottomless well called Greece is no problem at all. Plus, what really bothers me is how the population responds. Nobody should be cheering on someone else his/her death. Especially children, who are our future.
I suppose I'm more sensitive like @El Moroes said, it's certainly something I noticed after I became a father. Guess I'm not alone. Also, I think you put it very eloquently @laminutederire. I also applaud the positivity and faith. I'm not that old, but I've seen too much shit to share that sentiment.
(especially since the money is mostly for greek banks)
I wasn't saying you were old, but the sole fact that you have a job since a few years gave you the opportunity to be disappointed, while I'm still in the educational bubble, which confronted me only to a certain type of people who are less likely to support such ridiculous statements, especially because some of them are foreigners from the middle east, and talking with them allow to have an inside image of the situation, even if I'm aware that, where they come from, they have high social statuses.

The UK is so closed to migration it's unreal. It's toxic and I despise it.
However, while I don't condone the way Europe as a whole are handling the situation, more needs to be done to stabilise the regions people are coming from as a long term goal. Relocating entire countries isn't sustainable.
Happy, safe people don't want to leave their homes or countries.
Europe cannot do much except helping these countries getting back on their feet, I agree on that!
you can imagine any system to prevent migration, that won't stop people trying, and the more effective the system is, the more dead bodies there are. all of that because we think these in a disuasive approach, but if someone has nothing to lose, he will try and die anyway
and @El Moroes, fortunately you always hear more the one drunken idiot rather than the hundreds of common good peoples.
Finally, @Sprony, the fact that this selfishness is in place is because Europe feels threatened. What is sad is that while Europe is a wonderful place to live in, with social advantages, fundamental rights etc, all of these people who feel threatened only care about their money, because they see in that their survival, and they end up acting like animals enjoying the death of others because that means they can still eat, excepting that animals aren't that cruel. Thus as long as the economy is the fundamental value, these ridiculous behavior will happen. In my opinion, you should have faith in the future intellectuals, who could bring another way of living, which wouldn't be as efficient, but would be more fair and respectful of others. (Maybe it's my youth talking, but I have faith in that)

@'RZL I was wondering, are there playtests during the judging process? It would make sense that you could use your server for testing maps with other judges, or that you have too much to do to make the playtest happen, hence I am asking purely informatively if it is

(I made a request for one today, without having thought about it, so if that's the case I'll reschedule it next week)
In the meantime, good luck to you for this process!
-
Guest judges will be great at their job I think, they can replace pros and the community with their judgements

-
Probably because the only official map they're in is office, and it's an hostage map.
There wasn't this issue with Marquis though if I remember correctly.. mystery but that's not very important, it is funny the first few times and after that, well I forgot about it
-
Maybe the theme helps selling the map, but it is also extremely dangerous, because if it is the only thing that motivates players to pl, You'll have to detail your map enough to make any layout change very painful and, you'll be less likely to do everything you should to correct the layout, because it would mean waste too many time of detailing. This is why, the primitive state is the one that should be tested the more extensively, and it is the one which the less tested.
But changes with a stubborn community will through a few map makers rather than maps. By remaking classic maps which were around for years, FMPONE has earned the trust of the community, and it is part of why his new map, which he built from scratch will be probably much more accepted than a loooot of our maps thanks to that. And the maps of these mappers should be broadening minds of some.
On another note, if feedback is often non extensive, it is mainly because too many people want feedback for their own projects, and don't really care about other projects, leading in a lack of feedback for everyone, but that is mostly a cultural feat I guess.
