    Bump update:

I reworked the second phase area to delay a bit Ct's so that it isn't too easy for them to outrun T's. I've reworked a path too to restrain T's to unfairly rush Ct's, it isn't quite perfect yet but it's a lot better from what I've played.

Here is the new overview with phase 1 paths:

ANd here it is with phase 2 paths and timings (I actually don't know if these are readable though):

The reworked area is the following:

Let me know if I should give a Bsp for you guys to take a run!

On my to do list are the reworking of chokepoints to make them more interesting and adjusting timings a little bit more even if they are roughly what they are supposed to be.

And oh here is the album of last changes: imgur

Edit: I'm including a link to the bsp just in case: Link for the Bsp file

    Good evening everyone!

Since @will2k brought that up, it inspired me to try my own cs_ map, at the same time I'm detailing my de_ map.

This is heavy WIP and the overview is overly confusing but here it goes:

It is confusing because the map has two specificities. First of, there will be a system to choose between two spawns for both teams, a bit like on cs_insertion. so there are spread off spawns. The idea behind that was to favorite a bit Ct's in their endeavor, because they can use various strategies to either focus on an hostage room, or execute splits etc. T's have that system too to be able to gather a bit of intel, so that it is a bit balanced. Here are the main paths, and in green the chokepoints area for T's:

The idea here is that upper paths are accessible easily from the T territory in the middle, or from the hostages rooms, and those are the primary path which should be used. there is for now the possibility to enter the rescue area from the phase 1 level of the map, I'll see what will happen to that later on.

Testing it with bots has been for now pretty useless, but it kinda felt like it was a bit Ct sided, future will tell.

Here is the screenshot album: imgur

Let me know what you think, and if you need additionnal datas/infos.

Thanks in advance to everyone! :)

An hybrid should be more suited to it rather than a normal tablet. I mean, while he mostly use basic stuffs, like browsing or checking email, he does use a lot the office suite (PowerPoint and excel). Those may require a bit of computing power, since he sometimes have to deal with huge Excel sheets handling the company's datas, and sometimes he basically had to borrow my laptop for that because it was too much of computations to execute his macros. He works in supply chain management :)

The purpose is that his old laptop had its screen break and since it was 10 years old, it would be easier to buy a new than find the replacement hardware needed.

He needs one for work and since he is currently unemployed he has to move a lot for job interviews, and if he manages to get a job he would have to live elsewhere during the week, then coming back home every weekend. A pc that may work would be easily transportable but I don't know if that currently exists. But the multimedia is more consuming rather than producing, and the size in his case is more relevant since he has age against him on that.

And I admit I don't know what is needed to make things work correctly I figured I might ask!

Pre-built as in you only choose specs and someone builds it for you or pre-built as in even specs are already chosen? If it is the latter, I can find it myself, I wouldn't bother you with that, it's mainly comparing things knowing that they will work :) If so that could be nice, but I think I can build it myself if needed. That shouldn't be that hard with time and patience and help of Internet resources ?

  • Which engine is better for AI behavior customization?

    • laminutederire
    • January 3, 2016 at 4:14 PM

    Hi there everyone!

For a project at school, I might need to create a mini game with a large enough size map (like an historical center). It would be an open world type of thing.

However, since I don't know any AI engine, I wondered which engine should be the best to customize the AI behavior? I would need to have a very specific behavior for it, to make it good enough as an experiment.

(It would be a non-profit type of thing where graphics will be subsidiary at best so I should have the choice between "classic engines" such as UE4 etc. I think large enough studios like Ubisoft might help us a bit if we ask kindly enough and present the project correctly)

(Second footnote, I know I should build my own engine for this, but it would be too time consuming to be done before the deadline)

Thanks in advance to any answers!

And while I'm at it, happy new year to everyone :)

Hey I've got a tricky one for you

With a budget of 500 euros, tried to find a laptop for my father, who will basically use it for office work, multimedia and the rare gaming on semi old games. His criterion are more about comfort than performance. That goes for instance that he wants to have the largest screen possible. He wanted a 19" screen like his old one, but nothing like that exist now, it is 17.3" or less.

What we found that would be the best for now is an hp Pavillion, 17.3" with an i3 and an amd card, don't remember which one.

Do you think that with such budget there is a way to build a custom pc with a 19" screen and decent performance more or less like that HP laptop? I have to precise that I have a free license for Windows 10 or windows 7 on hand, so that wouldn't go in the budget. However I might possibly need some help assembling it so, mostly to make him trust it all will be okay :)

I bricked my Acer i3 2nd gen don't know how. I removed the cmos battery to clear the bios but somehow that procedure bricked it. I didnt took it to a place to see if repairing it is worth of it, I'm assuming that it isn't since it's a sandybridge gen model.

I was looking for i5 5200U, 8GB or 6GB, 930M GPU. I know that 930M is low end and that 768p is low res, but the price gap between low end and 1080p and a decent 950M or 960M is quite large. Where I live there are basically two options: Samsung or Asus. Acer, dell and lenovo have similar specs, but the gpu is either the 920m or m265, which are too much close in performance to intel hd.

I'd ask Lord @jackophant for help

he has a thread on here for help :)

I just like small form factor machines!

It's good enough for most. All the major heat creating parts draw their air directly from outside and due to the natural positive pressure of the case the hot air is forced out the exhaust vents. However, due to the space constraints the CPU is limited to a low profile fan cooler, so people will need to be super vigilant when overclocking.

I'll get back to you on that when i'll buy a computer

does finding things my brother left count? If yes, I got myself an Xbox 360 controller :P

And bought substance designer, bitmap 2 material and finally. .. half life 2 :)

Speaking of cases... I need this case

It's side profile is more or less that of an A4 sheet of paper (I presume that's an international standard?) but is only 10cm wide!

It's just missing a carry handle...

@DrywallDreams I don't know if you're planning on upgrading graphics, but sit tight and wait for NVIDIA's pascal architecture to roll out. We're talking 4x more transistors over 900 series + HBM2.0. People reckon the x50 (GTX 1050?) model will be outperforming the 980 Ti

    Ahah new laptop?

how good is it for cooling down? :)

Oh of course that's what you mean, read it when I was almost sleeping haha. Yes, things that we see as completely obvious are way often entirely different. Worst part of it is probably that we're not aware when it happens.

i think this is refered to as low level and high level of perception in the literature

Oh by the way I think I have an article I read that could interest you. It was about the cerebral activity of jazz artists, and the impact improvisation have on that activity, and it was at the end stated that it is actually a good approximation of what a social interaction can be :)

@Sjonsson I meant meaning. Getting the bigger picture is getting the meaning of what we see. This is something lot of autistic people lack by the way. This what helps you knowing that when you shake your boss' hand and your father's in law hand, well yiu shake their hand and it's the same action, even if the reality of both are very different :)

I'll read that when she'll let me :) she already started reading it!

    Thanks in advance..

I enjoy playing with the SG. I am good with the AK, but I think the SG's tap and potential for holding angles is insane once you get a hold of a site. If you have people who are more aggressive on your team, you can use the Sg to provide an intresting mix of weapons.

I think they need to overhaul the weapon sounds though. A lot of the weapons feel less good than they are.

I agree, and I feel like it is more suited for tap shooting, since it is way more accurate at a distance, that it's a one headshot kill, and that it's spray pattern is very different compared to most guns in the game!
