he's actually just very flippant. If he's joking he's terrible at it.

I really don't think player skins are an issue now.

If it isnt made by a mapper he is vaguely aware of and isnt one of the few shined on by the almighty subreddit, he tends to be overly-negative if by some chance he decides to look at it. He likes mirage clone maps because he can easily adapt his mirage skill-set to them, if it isnt similar he gets sour about it because of how much modern CSGO players rely on pre-existing map knowledge to dominate. Ive watched him for years and its the same thing every time. Similar to how the pro players immediately rejected Vertigo because of how little their previous map knowledge applied to it (though to his credit, warowl was very receptive of vertigo when they added it into the pool). This mindset that a map can only be good if you know it is part of why we have seen such a decline in interest for new maps.
Ironically Bardolph tends to have a better understanding of how to handle new maps despite how much people diss him for being poor at the base game. Rather then complaining that there are no grenade lineups because he doesnt know them, he tries to learn them ahead of time. Unfortunately its few and far between he takes a look at a new map since his twitch chat is more focused on memeing on him being poor at the regular game then highlighting new content.
watch with this formula - when warowl wins at a map he loves it, when he loses he thinks it's terrible.

now everyone knows what fucking awful feedback warowl has for their maps

go for the big scale stuff. It's a design challenge and the only way you'll progress is challenging yourself. I put a saturn 5 in a hostage map.

empire + junction. Have you not looked at the workshop at all? one of these maps was in an operation...

pretty much anything not a 4 leaf DE map is a nope. Hostage maps are normally an insta ban. we've had 2 nuke-style layouts which have been really unpopular.
http://faceit.fnugz.com/maps/ here is some stats for the contest. we're planning on forcing the less popular maps more

A year on, I have learned a lot from all my grayboxes which have not all been failures. Weren't you the one saying reinventing the 4 square is like reinventing milk? Dont just give up making something different after your first try or let people tell you it is not feasible without proof. every time people laugh at this it fuels me to come up with another layout better than the last. Maybe someone will have an epiphany and change things up lol
running a service with 60 thousand subscribers gives you a pretty good inkling of what is accepted and what isn't.
Look up dunning-kruger, you're on the incline just now
-
nuke + train are also 2 of the oldest layouts in the game. They are 'accepted' due to this and any change valve can force. We don't have that luxury. Come back and say the same stuff when you've been doing this a while, you'll have an epiphany sooner or later.

They really don't though, this you not understanding the nuances that go into map design. Each of the top 11 maps in the contest play radically different.

Not everything is a cash grab/portfolio addition
thinking of it as a 'cash grab' is wrong. It's more like the next logical step; I've been top of the workshop multiple times, had maps played by hundreds if not thousands of people, sold maps to small companies and so what is the next step? If you are not progressing you are stagnating. Getting into the game is like the sole way of being 'the next big thing'

We can take this to DMs because you seem pretty interested in this topic but to make sure you understand why I am confused here's what happened in this thread: Mapper is looking back in times when playerbase was interested in community maps and wants to get back to such times. I explain that the attitude of the mappers themselves has to focus on the playerbase for them to be interested in your work in return. You tell me that you are indeed interested in the core playerbase by propping up a 3rd party website advertised for people who get matchmaking bans from the most popular gamemode in the playerbase.
faceit acts more like a 'post matchmaking' service. I don't think many of our core players (who *just* play the mapcore hubs now and have come to US to play) are doing so out of any kind of ban; we remove toxic players very quickly. I'd say the wider playerbase is 100% interested in community maps but don't see a point in learning maps that are temporarily available.

If you wish people to enjoy custom maps, do not prop up custom maps that lower the overall gameplay quality/fun factor of playing custom maps: When every custom map has the same layout, bugs galore and no new gimmicks, then it's not the playerbase whose choices have created a bad enviroment for the custom maps. It's the people in the mapping community who prop up maps that aren't designed by the playerbase for the playerbase.
There's no point in reminiscing about the CS:S days of mapper and player feedback loops. Those will never happen again. We're making sure of it right here.
we have 100+ pieces of feedback logged from faceit hub players. You are aggressively clueless

Who knows. Would it be fun? Who knows. Been a few super cool outside-the-box concepts that didn't make it all the way, like that space station and underwater map,
I've really enjoyed the theme and premise of this competition, hopefully it wont be the last! Would be cool to have a dz contest
Graveyard is wild but rough around the edges, clipping passes etc needed at least. I guess people were expecting 'very safe but polished' to win out against that? fuck it man, you do you eh? If the judges see value in what you're doing that's all that matters right now, you have a month to change the doubters minds

so is it your own map? can you give your BSP name and your kv file? help me help you
