To put it another way, the TV market is currently a lot like the PC monitor market. There are great options if you know what you're looking for, but the majority of consumer devices have relatively shitty panels. Hence why I outlined what those better options are, to avoid being the guy who wonders why you'd possibly buy a £400 (IPS) monitor when the same size can be found for £150 (TN) because you assume all modern units are good.

As with monitors, can you specifically buy an IPS / TN TV? Is that a thing?

Monitors always say what the technology is as it usually comes with associated pros/cons, but I can't recall ever seeing that level of specificity on a TV. They just say "LCD" which doesn't help because both technologies are LCD

What's stopping someone like Samsung churning out a few AMOLED TV screens and really showing off the true blacks?

I get the impression the TV industry is a long way behind what we expect for our monitors... But why?

When modding becomes available, I reckon someone could make a fantastic zombie mod for this.

Would just need to increase population size and spawn rate, make them all hostile, switch out the models for zombified versions, increase the damage they can do and their health and limit the players resources... voila!

I would play the fuck out of that.

TL;DR: Pistols are too powerful, make them weaker so more skill is required.

I'm trying to think of a way to balance them, possibly with a points based system, but I keep stumbling across more and more variables with which to consider and it's becoming a lot more convoluted... I thought I could work it out quickly here, but I think I need to come back with something... probably a spreadsheet with lots of graphs...

there's ton of references out there -

remember you don't need to stick to just 'aztec' either. DE_Aztec was more Mayan than anything

    Display More

Another mapcorian is currently trying to make an "aztec" map without obvious references. As with all of those linked pictures, they are all crumbled buildings that were once taller with large amounts of grass around them. I really don't think the theme lends itself to counter strike gameplay at all.

Small mediterranean towns and business/industry areas are so popular because they naturally lend themselves to what is required. People can get creative ofc, but naturally built up / inhabited areas are just easier to work with.

    Well said sir!

It's worth noting for other people that the per-pixel lighting is the same principal as the Super AMOLED screen found on phones (an offshoot of the OLED technology), which up until recently Samsung seemed to be the only ones really using. Not even the hallowed iPhones have it.

Even my old Samsung S8300 Tocco Ultra Edition (2009) had it, and the "true blacks" as the term was, are really very nice.

Could always throw a curveball and suggest a projector? variable screen size is always handy

You might want to build on it, but you can't just make it up. Working from reference is very important, and the point of ruins, is that they're ruins.

I'm going to build off of the Aztec map theme wise, but you'll be surprised about how little large angles there are. CT spawn has a angle all the way down but that's reallyit. I suggest you take an ingame look . Most of the wide passages are In the non choke point areas that are not meant to be used much

Couple of things (from the screenshots)

Your radar shot need to be taken with "cl_leveloverview <value>". 4 is a good starting point, and you may want to use "cl_leveloverviewmarker 1024" as well to provide a red line square. If you do that you're only a couple of steps away from actually making your radar.

I'm going to presume you haven't messed with the texture scale, but iirc, each of those full squares on the reflectivity textures is 128x128units (best case scenario, it may be 256 units). In your first screenshot, there are almost 3 full tiles in the narrow part of the path and even more in the large area behind. That's 384 units wide at least, and for reference my widest corridor is 190units.

I realise that might be a spawn area? But you still have huge sight lines to contend with. The entire map is large and open.

As it's your first map as well I would stay away from the Aztec theme. It's not a particularly easy thing to research visual resources for and your map will suffer for it.

EDIT: oh, and don't think i didn't notice the name is aztec backwards

Some of the jumps are way too EASY and screw up timings largely. Make them harder jumps so that it is greatly "risk reward"

Tell me which jump you find too hard if there is some.

About the railing textures, i feel the same for some parts. I already change it on the upper path to B from T.

If another one bother you, tell me

It's not about the jump being too hard, the point is unless it is completely safe there is a chance you could die before the game has even commenced.

It's not competitive and dangerous/hard jumps should be reserved for high risk / reward situations, and not too many of them.

Using the ol' controller atm, but will use kb+m for shooting next time round. the encryption was a little slow, my patch wasn't and I haven't had a hitch. Well done R* imo

I'm still not quite sure how you gain ownership of a car in SP especially as I specced the bollocks off a lambo thing with hexagonal holes in the back, and it's disappeared without a trace ;(

I have preordered this. The trailer and discount on steam convinced me. I so hope i can get into this unlike the first two. I will give Witcher 2 another chance beforehand in preparation after i had my GTA V PC fix.

gog.com ages ago did a fantastic pre-order deal where you could get cumulative discounts if you proved you owned the previous 2 games.

It's also cheaper to get W3+expansion pass separately (£35+£20) than it is to buy the bundle (£65, lolwut?)

Or should I just wait for the expansion |||||||

How far away will this TV be from you?

Regardless, unless you're rubbing your nose on it, all these new 4k TVs are just their to empty your wallet and will look just as good.

Similarly with monitors you want a high refresh rate, usually this is reserved for 3D capable TVs, and you have to be careful when a TV is touting 200Hz, because it's not the "refresh rate" you would normally call refresh rate.

Depending on what your budget is 1080p is a pretty good resolution to be aiming for. regardless of what any salesman tells you, you will typically sit so far away from it that the pixels are indistinguishable anyway and the difference is not as great as they will lead you to believe.

Look to LCD technologies which are "backlit with LED". They will try and swindle you into thinking the screen is LED, but in truth those are far more expensive.

3D is up to you, if you think you'll use it, but some TVs have it included anyway.

AND DON'T BE TRICKED BY "SMART TVS". There is literally nothing smart about them. It usually means another poorly cobbled together user interface with a poor array of apps run by an incredibly lackluster CPU. Most new TVs are referred to as this anyway, but don't be too bothered if one you choose doesn't use another misinforming buzzword.

The other thing I would suggest is on paper, 2 TVs can look almost identical, reciting the same contrast ratios or whatever else. You should really go into a store and see the picture reproduction yourself and look for any image ghosting. You can then also see the build quality as I've seen a few rather precarious looking stands.

My current TV is Toshiba, but I recommend Sony, Panasonic and LG TVs as well. They've done my family and I well in the past, so have no comments on any after care services I've we've never needed them!

I hope this helps and doesn't confuse more
