    Why is it so meta?

They're only grey (hence term "greyboxing"). Ranging from 10% reflected light (dark grey) to 90% reflected light (almost white).

The idea being that if you're working with coloured lighting, you can see more easily the combinations of tones created. Use the reflectivity texture that will be closest to the texture you aim to use.

I find orange is quite over powering, and if used at all is better as a highlight colour.

Subtitles are an option to set in the settings, not bound to difficulty from what I remember... and even if so in previous titles, they can change it for this one, is not like there's an unchangeable framework that dictates these choices.

    I was being silly ;)

I beg to differ. The underground in up here in the north east is literally called the "Metro".

Let me correct myself, no one in London calls the underground "Metro".

@Panda I'm talking literally about the blue/white/red typical train, not a grey prefab :P

It's going to be a bit close to home for a lot of people considering the 7/7 bombings in 2005, looks like you've got the means to make something nice.

I heard about this, but hadn't seen it yet.

This video is so intense, this level of communication is awesome.

Must need a lot of trial and error!

The technological prowess of this period include spear-thrower and the invention of the wheel, what a blast this will be.

Absolutely savage, actually made me lol.

I hope they've got an angle on this, because right now it's looking a little like "The Forest" as well with the other tribes. Also if they always talk in this unknown language, the entire game will require subtitles (hardcore difficulty turns subtitles off, making conversation decisions very hard).

Looks like a good start, I like the layout of bombsite B especially but it all needs a little tightening up.

I would suggest you drop those walls right down as well, (makes everything feel very enclosed and shady) and work with the reflectivity textures as they give a better idea of lighting as they are closer to white.

What sort of theme will you be aiming for? It's important to get that down now, so you can start looking for references and craft the brushwork towards that final theme.

    Overview looks good guys.

Do either of you live in England? I just wonder because no one in England calls the underground/tube, the metro.

Would be nice to see some trains as well :P

ofc I don't expect each game to be completely different, I didn't say it was a bad thing for FC either, and I definitely didn't intend to imply that it was a quick job to make FC4. I loved both 3 and 4 without reservation.

What I'm saying is that I didn't notice that 4 did anything new compared to 3 (edit: maybe coop is only thing?). To me a game is more than it's setting, and I do appreciate the importance of it, but if the game play becomes stale then what?

Some games just don't need to be released year after year after year. I'm not a game developer, I don't know the ins and outs of development and I sure as hell don't know what management think when they try and pedal these games, but as predominantly a gamer it pisses me right off when a good game is bled dry. Luckily primal looks like a... far cry... from the current mix, and as I said, I will reserve judgement until I see actual gameplay and not a scripted sequence.

As I said to seir before, my mention of CoD was more in reply to Buddy's statement.

Well, I don't know what to tell you about that "the same over and over" thing. I'll maybe pass my comment on this topic but when BO3 will be out, please, play it and let me know if it's again the same game.

It was more referencing Buddy's comment of "Far Cry is Ubisoft's COD now, shame."

I bought every cod up to mw2 and no longer felt I could justify spending that sort of money annually to keep up with the latest considering the changes. I tried again with advanced warfare and was disappointed with how little it had changed still considering the period of time passed.

I would be lying if I said I was following or knew anything about BO3, or even looking forward to it. However, I'm always willing to be swayed so I'll watch out for it on your request :)

I just don't like seeing good titles smeared because a publisher wants to capitalise on their earning potential.

  • Win10 users: any compatability issues with source tools?

    • jackophant

I've not had any issues. The only problem I have had was an upgrade glitch where the "settings app" fails to install.

But after upgrading I did a fresh installation anyway. After the upgrade Win10 remember your computer so you can reinstall without having to reenter your key!

Where do you mean T's can get past without getting unnoticed?

I'm talking generally. I can't see any particular route that would be of concern right now, but it's something to bear in mind.

I think the A > B direct connector is a bad idea, and could be removed to make the pathing more simple and the levels work. I would also make the top level more of a conventional mid. Maybe skylights or something that nades can be dropped down from on top for interesting plays.

@Psyrius I edited this into my original answer, but you may have missed it:

TBH, I'm not even sure you need that second level? If you do go for it, I'd simplify the paths on the first level.

Introducing verticality is ok, but you need to try and maintain a manageable amount of paths. Being flanked helplessly is one of the most frustrating things on these map tests.

Try and think about how 5 CTs can defend on your map, preferably not too spread out and cover all angles. Ts shouldnt be able to get past unnoticed without killing a CT or at least pushing them back a lot (think cache vent into B from mid)

    A more simplified layout:

    https://i.gyazo.com/e928ee9202ce82937188b031ddf7cb3d.png

And again: Layout isn't done. And third level won't exactly look like that. It will be more organic since it's on top of a mountain. But the idea is for it to act like a "mid" and if you take control of it, you can go down to level 2, through a ladder or something. And on level 2 (which acts like some sort of a connector) you can choose to go A or B. And when you reach the site, you're on "balconies" or higher ground.

Your first and second levels look good, but I can't think of any situation where that 3rd level is a good idea. It's just a tunnel to fight in or a ridiculous uber flank, ofc depending on how open it all is, and if it is open, it's just a death trap like aim_deagle_7ks walkway.

It is, but is not… at least they do more original things with it, not just copies every year

As much as I loved both FC3 and 4 (and 1 and 2 tbh), I think it's safe to say 4 was just 3 in Tibetan clothing. Yes it brought some new things to the table, but then so does COD with each iteration.

I'm not sure I like the look of this, it's like they've taken the Shangri La part of FC4 and expanded it into a game. But the video looks uber scripted so I shall reserve judgement until gameplay.
