For some reason the Radi-ant reminds me of the health containers we did in Sin Episodes. Maybe one thing you can add is special machines that take in the canister and will do cool things.

I've read an article a few months ago about this, and they can't say to basically shield themselves from lawsuits.

I would gladly sign a waiver for tests in the future if this is the reason why lol

I am so happy that UE4 allows CTRL+S now. UE3 would generate a subtractive brush whenever I hit CTRL+S lol

I have been experiencing a situation where I am given quite a few design tests from different places. I finish the test on time as expected and as closely as possible to the requirements. I then have the experience of being told they do not plan to move forward with my application, which is fine, but I have no idea what happened. Was the test not done correctly? Was there another applicant they preferred more? Was the position filled just before I finished the test? Did I at least get close but no cigar? was I completely off mark? Do they not hire people with Mohawks? lol

Each time this happens I make it a point to ask for feedback on the test. I either receive no response or a response saying that they are not allowed to provide feedback on the test.

This is the only time in my entire life where the design process is a guessing game with no way to further improve my abilities due to a deliberate lack of communication.

It's a very difficult situation to be in. I wish there was a screening process that was more transparent, I prefer brutal honesty over no information at all.

I saw this recently and found it interesting. I think it has potential to be scary and with good level design could become a sort of underground classic. Its impressive what you can do with the Doom engine these days.

I have one bit of feedback for games like this that would make a huge difference. When the game is this realistic its absolutely necessary to change how the player takes damage into a near miss system of some sort.

For example every shot that is fired at the player that is registered as a hit should play a special animation where the player just barely avoids the bullet. It can still use a screen flash that is indicative of taking damage, its even perfectly fine to have a health value to go with it. Make it feel cinematic, make combat more immersive. Please for the love of god don't take something so gorgeous AND SPAWN BLOOD SPLATS COMING OUT OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS FACE BECAUSE A GUY SHOT HIM!!!!

    Game looks absolutely amazing.

Now that's some progressive thinking by Epic. No need for a viable market and no need for big budgets. It's brilliant. They put a small and affordable team on it, build it with community help and make money of the marketplace. It's low risk, transparent, cost efficient, good advertisement and fan service. What's there to hate? This is a good time for people to seriously consider moving to UE4.

    Hats off Epic, hats off.

There is only one problem with this idea that will take some careful consideration. Too many chefs in the kitchen is a big problem here. There does need to be a centralized decision making entity who does make tough choices that not everyone is going to like. This level of transparency does potentially mean that every little thing the lead designer does will be met with tons of complaining at every step of the way to the likes that we have yet to witness.

edit: Anyway, with that said I will begin planning out a map design for UT4. For now I will use the FPS game base and my understandings about how UT3 plays to plan out a basic map. Its been a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time since I considered making a FFA level lol.

The marketing budget accounts also paying for good reviews 3:-D

On that note, the side effect of this is that word of mouth inevitably ends up being the biggest influence for a games success. At least, that is what I have been told. ;D

When I was working at Nerve I headed up the design of a new arena shooter based on everything we have learned from UT and Quake 3 in a highly competitive light. We tried so hard to get funding for the project and nobody would bite. Hence my unemployed status as of late. However with all of that said I know in my gut it can work and I know how to do it too. If Counter strike and Team Fortress 2 can survive all these years damn it I know a well executed arena shooter can too. Especially one powered by UE4.

I think being on UE4 isn't much of a blessing for a highly competitive shooter. CSGO and TF2 are really good as competitive games because of Source's lack of any input lag and low minimum requirements. UE, in my experience, tends to focus on cool looking stuff with tons of expensive effects. So long as Epic keeps input lag to a minimum, it should be a good time.

One of the first things we set out to do was to reduce the input lag on UE3. It remains to be seen if UE4 even has similar input lag issues to begin with.

I would absolutely love to work on environments like that. And knowing bugie, they will be exactly the scale you see in these drawings.

I have heard that bungie's tools are some of the worst in the industry though. Maybe new tools too? [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_razz.gif]

You all know I'm old school. I still play Quake. Hell, I still play Doom. I love UT/Quake 3. I would throw money at it like the government does with banks that fuck up. Having said that, do you still think that there's a viable market for that kind of game? Other attempts to bring them back have failed. Serious question.

I want to make maps for this. Seriously, I hope they follow the standard formula of providing a strong mod community and really take advantage of UE4 capabiliti..... What I minute, this is likely going to be a free download off the UE4 market place isn't it?

Well regardless, the fast paced arena shooter market is suffering right now and it needs something new. And if something like this does come out in the near future I want to design something for it.

Has anyone coined a term for a video game that is equally fulfilling to watch on YouTube as it is to actually play? This looks like whatever that term would be.

edit: Side note, the engine looks to have been improved quite a bit.
