To add to the Mapcore love...

I have spare copies of Bioshock, Bioshock 2 and Spec Ops: The Line. First come first serve.

Are Bioshock 1 and 2 still available ? I wouldn't mind having them if it's not too much trouble for you.

I'll PM you shortly if the offer is still valid

Thanks for your generosity (and to Beck too )

"Squeaks" as you described them will most probably come from loose/unadjusted e-break cable, worn out/twisted brake pads/drums and less likely from control arm bushings and tie rods (squeak will be accompanied with a slight "click" sound).

Keep them in mind for your next check up and just like with doctors, it's always a good idea to let more than one mechanic/garage have a look at your car before deciding to let go of your hard earned cash (especially when your mechanic seem shaky and undecided when giving you the diagnostic )

Good luck and hope it is solved for good

The standard resolution to take the overview screenshot is 1280x1024 (4:3 aspect ratio).

In your case, and since you are limited by your laptop screen of max resolution 1366x768 (16:9), the easiest solution is to set your resolution to 1024x768 (4:3), then set cl_leveloverviewmarker 768 (instead of 1024).

Once you reach the editing phase in Photoshop/Gimp, crop your image to 768x768 instead of 1024x1024 and you should be set.

Alternatively send your map to one of your mates who has a bigger screen and let him do the hard work.

    Good luck

A bit late (haven't logged in here for the past 2 weeks) but big congrats Germany

Watching this final brought back memories of watching the final in 1990 with almost similar conditions: Argentina with tough defense and a "superstar" player (Maradona) vs Die Mannschaft with a plethora of extremely talented and versatile players (Matthäus, Klinsmann, Häßler, Völler, Kohler,...). And then Brehme scored in the 85th minute to release the stress and pressure off the German fans

Now we had 9-men defensive Argentina with Messi Vs Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Müller, Klose,... and then Götze scored the relief goal at the 113 mark...about time

Well played and certainly well deserved title. Euro 2016 is around the corner

    FRANCE YEAAAH !

    Well deserved victory

However France is missing a seasoned striker who can transform all the nice and quick midfield play into shots on goal and possible goals. If they had one, the score today would have been at least 4-0.

Benzema and the rest of the midfielders are playing some smooth passes and the ball is gracefully reaching the opposing team's box and here where everything suddenly goes south: offence too slow to maneuver, leaves ball behind, passes to wrong team or simply shoots way outside the goal.

Someone like Papin, Djorkaeff, Pirès, Henry is definitely needed on the forward line to translate all those attacks/pressing into goals

But you can get enough of Mafia II... Mafia I is the game!

that's why I included the 1920s in my post as a reference to the first Mafia taking place in the 1920s prohibition era.

I played the hell out of Mafia I back in 2002 and greatly enjoyed it and its soundtrack (big jazz fan here); I agree with you that Mafia I is an instant classic and while Mafia II is not on the same pedestal, it is still however a very enjoyable game and a solid addition to the mobster genre in pop litterature.

on an unrelated note , I purchased a second copy of Payday as a gift for a family member (damn, half my purchases this sale were gifts ); I wanna play the coop with a human crime buddy and don't want to go through the missions with AI buddies (unless the single player missions are different from coop??)

That remembers me the time i was visiting some friends in lorraine, and they made me visit all the historical war sites of ww1 around verdun. (they are haunted by that war in their region)

You have verdun and all the war monuments, artillery forts, douaumont ossuary etc which are well kept in a glorious military orderly fashion (which is really not my thing) basically a middle ground between sadness and a glorious history well written by changing blood and flesh to stone.

But the most impressive place they made me visit was the éparges, it's basically the name of a village beside a hill with a dominating view above the plains the french and the germans were fighting for in order to put strategic artillery positions on top of it. (lorraine is very flat)

They fought for around 3 months on top of this little hill and dug trenches on both sides of it, the front line ones separated by the terrain levelling were basically 50 meters from each other. Pretty sure you could talk to the guy in the trench in front of you. And for the whole 3 months the french and german artiellery batteries were completely drowning the place under shells.

So to advance and take the trenches of the enemy, they had to blow them up. Basically you had engineers digging tunnels from their trench to under the trench of the enemy and detonate as most explosives as they could throwing high in the air earth and humans alike; then they would launch an assault on the gigantic crater the explosives left, fortify it with sandbags/barbed wire and hold it from counter attacks. It's absolutely demential. 12000 people died on top of that hill.

What is interesting there is that basically since it's a forested hill now, not much has been changed and was left somewhat intact and abandoned. In the middle of the forest you can still see what's left of the sinuous trenches, mossy bunkers, or a piece of rusty metal going out of the ground full of bullet holes. (although they had to remove all the non detonated shells and mines, not sure how many guys are still there fertilizing the forest under several layers of laboured earth though)

But i can assure you, we were alone in the forest and it is really spine chilling to be standing on top of all that. I swear if you concentrate enough in the forest silence you can hear ghosts.

It's interesting to see a game tackle an overlooked era, WWI.

Unfortunately, most modern/pop art (TV, movies, games) focus on portraying WWII so it's refreshing to see someone go the extra length with exploring the WWI scene to shed some light on its events and pay tributes to the fallen ones.

    Germany beats Algiers.

USA beats Belgium (sorry Squad and Ravage, but so far they haven't convinced me. But I do hope they win though).

Sounds good although not too sure about the last one.

You're right that Belgium is not putting a convincing show but I think experience (Belgium) will beat stamina/enthusiasm (USA) unless Klinsmann has some new tricks up his sleeve

I cannot stress this enough. There are plenty of talented folks sort of inside/outside the industry posting on these forums. You may be waiting for an opportunity, you may have assumed it won't happen. I know a few of you I have in mind as I say this, who are perfectly capable mappers. If you know the Source engine, you must see this as an opportunity worth seizing.

and I'm talking about beyond $1,000 and all of the additional prizes. I'm talking about a gig, a resume piece, the knowledge that you won a contest. Many of you should start work right away. *uncle sam pointing at you*

Insurgency is a great team. Kikette and the rest of the team created some EXCELLENT assets, and maps to learn from. Carpe Diem.

In a related topic to the above, I have published my newest article titled "Hints about Hints - Practical guide on hint brushes placement".

It's a technical article in which I showcase how I think about and approach hints placement in Source engine and how I systematically proceed with hint brushes with some practical examples.

Hope it provides helpful insights for aspiring Source mappers and offers a good read for experienced ones.
