Hey guys!
Today I had a little discussion with a colleague of mine. He wants to create a CSGO map in order to be successful with it in one of the upcoming Operation packages. He asked me to show him some of the maps that were accepted before (he is NOT a CSGO mapper, but a very experienced Level Designer with Unity/3DSMax). He pointed out that most of them are very blocky and you can see brushes used instantly. His approach would be to create the whole level as a mix of numerous models instead of using brushes. Just like we do here at work with Unity. My question now, would that be a viable approach for the Source Engine? I never thought of NOT using brushes in CSGO maps.
Thx in advance
Cheers

Sewers seem a bit dark, but BOY is that stuff sexy! Good job so far!

I'm lurking in this forum for quite a while now. Posted just a few comments yet. It's time to step out of the shadows!
My name is Paul, I am from Austria and I studied "Mediatechnology and Design". I currently work at "Cliffhanger Productions" in Vienna as a Level Designer. There I am working on the title "Shadowrun Online" which is made with the Unity Engine. In my leisure time I prefer to use the Hammer Editor though. Before starting working at the company I created mainly Counter-Strike:Global Offensive maps. My most successful one might be de_shift, which is based on de_concrete for CS 1.6. CEVO liked the map so much that they added it into the official maprotation for 2 pre-seasons. Other than that, nothing that I made had any impact in the scene. So there is a lot to come :>

You probably already know it, but is a motive to be proud of, so I'm spreading the word. Vakarm.net published an an article with the best april maps, and de_rails is in it!
well deserved!

Finally got some time to further investigate the map. It looks really cool and I love it! Great work!
Here is the promised album with detailed feedback and things I encountered on the map. Some things are marked dkii (don't know if intended).
Have fun fixing! ;D

This is a really good approach and definetly an improvement compared to the earlier versions!
I just had a quick look, but I will take some time off this weekend to give you more detailed feedback. I will probably create an imgur-album similar to those I did for rust

Still, awesome stuff here! Very impressive
