Speechless, I'm guessing.

Looks like you just got rid if one tunnel? Or is the overview on the "New" one out of date?
The thing with mapping is when you're the mapper you have an omniscient knowledge of the layout from the get-go so it can be difficult to understand when other players don't really "get it" straight away. With your intimate knowledge of that area I bet there are all sorts of fun strats you can pull off by using sound and angles to your advantage, but the average player isn't going to give it a second look if he can't get a handle on the area within a few rounds of play.
I've not played either version of this map, but from the overview it really does look a bit of a crazy rat-maze and to be honest that turns me off downloading it.
If you ignore such a common criticism you have to do so in the knowledge that your map probably won't get played much.

***Spoiler Alert***
John Romero isn't actually naked.Edit: It annoys me a bit how much LeBreton says "Yep", especially when he does it before Romero's even got to the point. Just let the man speak!

Perhaps I'm overthinking this, but it seems weird to me that render would come away from the wall in a brick pattern.

I've had this bug for years. Just need to minimize hammer as soon as you start your compile, or before the game launches.

Nice to see you've included a Puddy style face in there. Is it a blue cat?

The first level of Mysteries of the Sith, where you're in a rebel base getting stormed by the imperials was awesome.

I'm surprised decompiling even keeps instances in-tact to be honest! I assumed you would have used the D2 example VMF that comes with Hammer.
I only mentioned instances because I've seen collapsing them do some pretty weird things.
I guess another thing to check would be that there are no collision meshes in the 3D skybox, as this can supposedly cause weird lighting glitches (though I've not seen this myself) and I can imagine either a decompile or instance collapsing might mess with those sort of settings.
-
That's odd. What have you changed since your last compile without the errors?
Did you collapse any/all of the instances from the Dust2 VMF?

You probably just burned out. At some point it happens in all creative fields, to pretty much all creative people I've met. The best thing you can do is take a break -- you could work on something else creative, or just be a bit passive for a while. Maybe look through your steam library and find a singleplayer game you never completed and make it your goal to get through it. Eventually a spark of mapping passion will reignite when you're ready to pick up the hammer again.

ZTN's Q2 maps made me want to be a great mapper.

Hey guys. I bought the Gigabyte laptop in the end, and can confirm that build quality seems excellent overall, although the DVD drive is a bit awkwardly placed in the front so I occasionally open it by accident, and the wireless adapter is potentially faulty as internet access seems to cut out after 4-5 minutes use -- I'm taking it round a friend's house tonight to try it on his wifi and hopefully confirm whether it's the laptop or my router.

Star Wars is not sci-fi so no.
I guess you could make that argument by pre-defining Sci-Fi in a very narrow way or literal way, but you might end up discounting Terminator then as well, especially since in Terminator 16 (once Disney have purchased the franchise) John Connor ends up using a time machine to travel to a galaxy far far away, a long time ago. I know this because you sen(d/t) a terminator back in time from 2036 to warn me so that this discussion would happen and we could all boycott the franchise to make it worthless to Disney. Unfortunately Disney also sent a robot back disguised as me to make stupid comments and derail the thread, so who the fuck knows what's going to happen?

because it's about to overtake Alien as the most defiled sci-fi franchise in history.
Come on, Star Wars holds that trophy by a country mile.
This trailer is shit though, as is the word "Genisys". I think I'll just stay home and watch Manborg.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am leaning toward the more powerful GPU, definitely.
BlackDog, if I didn't have a desktop I would definitely go with a 17" screen. It does seem like you have to really sacrifice on CPU/GPU specs if you want to stay under £1k with a 17" though.

Hi guys. I've decided to take the plunge on a gaming laptop -- I don't intend for it to replace my desktop, but it would be nice to have some portability, especially for mapping on the move (despite the tiny screen)! I've never owned a laptop though, so I'd value any feedback any of you can give! I've found the following two laptops in my price-range, but I can't make my mind up!
http://www.dabs.com/products/msi-g…=58140000&src=3
Slightly cheaper of the two
SSD/HDD Combo
Comes with an OS
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LT-026-GI
Better graphics card with twice the gigglebites
0.4kg lighter
I've looked at so many that I feel like I'm starting to go a little snowblind. Can anybody see any other decision-making points, or have any other recommendations around the £800-900 price point?
Cheers!
