Does anyone else feel like the matchmaking is against them? Like I've won a single game, lost like 5.

feels way too early for a Kickstarter, it just sounds like they're making another daikatana with the way they're banking on names. I'm curious as to how well it gets funded, people seem way more cautious with this kind of 'hype' Kickstarter than when stuff like broken age was funded.

I also got a rival 100 to replace my rival 300 while I RMA it (then it'll be my laptop mouse). It's impressively tiny. I can't properly grip the thing

It looks middle of the line these days (I should say I mean tech art), it's a AAA game in 2016. It looks about the same as any other game. It certainly shouldn't have so much trouble running on a gpu with less than 2gb memory. Hell, GTA V needs half of that.

Beta impressions: this is the first game in a while to make me reboot a pc. nice.

how does this game have such high requirements despite looking only so-so? Is it because of OpenGL driver support? AMD's revenge after RAGE? Why make a game that doesn't scale at all? Why make your market *smaller*?

There's a thread for it somewhere around here, the level design was a bunch of empty rooms, from what I could see.

That's sort of the issue with photogrammetry: it turns out that the real world's kinda boring. Photogrammetry is great if you want a ton of rocks and statues, but I'm not convinced that it's the future of content creation.

It seems like a good deal, maybe more so than the Rift. It still won't help VR succeed at all, I'm interested to see how they try to keep customer's interest in VR.

yeah, but that's not acceptable, I mean, forcing half of the player to lower their settings because they didn't make their update correctly is insane. I thought there was basic testing for that sort of production.

The Witness shipped with crashes only on AMD cards, among many other games (remember RAGE?), AMD writes shitty drivers. That's the fun of graphics programming!

I loved it because it did all that! Games stories have more twists than a wedding DJ'd by Chubby Checker. A game basically being like "you expected a twist? nah lol" is a nice change from the Shyamalan-ass writing all over games right now.

you HAVE to use twitch for streaming.

Wait, what does that entail? Any streaming of the game at all? Developer streams? In-game streaming support? Better yet, how do you enforce that?

I just finished it, I really liked it! The level design was masterful, though the map broke for a me which made navigation somewhat difficult. The way new mechanics affect the pace of navigation was very well tuned, I feel that many won't really notice it.

I do have to say that it ended too fast. After a point, things start happening way too fast, though I felt like it left things in a good spot. In a way, it seems like the beginning being so good, then the ending flying by will spoil it somewhat.

I feel like it misses the point of Doom, in a way. Doom is an 80s metal album cover made into a game. The remake sounds like Skrillex stuck a Doom midi into one of his songs, imo.

Any word on a VR release? The game looks very well optimized to run on there.

there's a VR mode that is activated with the -vr flag. I'm curious as to how well it works, there's a lot of stuff I think might get messed up when dealing with two eyes, and a few parts that might straight up be the puke zone

it was added at the same time as steam controller support, and the steam controller support is just an old controller config in the game's directory (which no longer works), which may something about the state of vr support too.

this game has a LOT to it that isn't immediately apparent. I started going through some of the data out of curiosity, and it looks like I've only scratched the surface in terms of story after ~20 hours and finishing most main puzzles.

If you want the game completely fresh, don't look at the subtitles. The game has something really interesting I have yet to find that makes it much, much more interesting.

I remember some of the articles he wrote about the engine. It had some interesting features for live editing and hot swapping. Ever object file in the game was plaintext and he could reload everything in a second or two. I have no idea how...

Game looks really beautiful. I haven't been interested in his previous games but I do want to try this.

The terrain system is definitely the highlight for me. More engines should have this kind of flexibility.

I can't wait to start on it tomorrow, the environment art is crazy good. turns out stylization is still cool and more devs need to try it.

    it's also very well written

What about Infinite? That game has such a Si Fi channel-ass story it's ridiculous. The whole beginning is just Ken Levine jerking off about religion, then it tries to say that racism is bad, then proceeds to make that oppressed group the enemy for the second half of the game(???). Elizabeth is such a lazy character: she's a *special girl*, so she has *special powers* but also has the brain of a fucking toddler, the only thing she actually knows is how to throw things at Booker.

    Quote

Then in the end, it's revealed that ACTUALLY, YOU'RE THE ANTAGONIST BECAUSE RELIGION. The game's ending doesn't even serve as a decent resolution! How does Comstock/Booker being killed in one reality resolve the conflict?

The game is trying to say way too much, it ends up being ham-fisted on all fronts.
