Does Uncharted look that good? In video that doesn't look much more than Tomb Raider. (I don't have a PS3 or the games to compare side by side).

Well yeah, targetting one platform will certainly yield better results. Basically if you generalize across a large number of platforms then the performance drops.

So if you target platforms X, Y and Z and platform Z has some sort of super render feature. It can be hard to take advantage of platform Z's super feature because you don't have an equivalent for X and Y. So usually what ends up happening is the feature isn't used.

Naughty Dog would be an extreme case of this because of the PS3's architecture. I'm pretty confident if it was a mutliplat game it wouldn't look as good. If you look into some of the stories about the difficulty of porting it to PS4 that will also give some insight. They are lucky enough to have legendary graphics programmer Corrine Yu handling the port though, even she said it was tough.

As for the opengl thing. Basically opengl doesn't work well with multicore rendering because it's a global state machine. If you did a basic multi-plat implementation where one uses opengl it can be a little tough. It certainly can be done but in the world of deadlines there just might not be the time to do it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't OpenGL 4.5 designed to fix the issues of it being a state machine? From a non-dev's perspective, wouldn't that make multi-plat development way easier, especially when DX12 seems to be doing the same stuff to bring it into line with XBOne DX 11/12? Last generation the PS3, 360, and PC couldn't be any more different. Now all three are x86-64, two use essentially the same rendering API if the Windows PC domination continues, and the PS4 API seems to be familiar territory from what I can glean. Seems to me that we won't be seeing so much quality difference between ports and exclusives.

  • Which game really made you fell in love with it's world and characters?

Morrowind is the first game that comes to mind. That game is a masterpiece, and something that no RPG has even gotten close to. I've spent hours upon hours exploring every inch of that world, and still love it. brb installing

Deus Ex 1 had a great cast of characters with one of the most immersive settings I've seen. It's a shame that the rest of the series hasn't been as good (though Human Revolution came real close!). It has its moments with super cheesy dialogue, but that works to make the game just a bit more memorable.

Gone Home was great at building a world, so much so that it totally gets my vote even though it's not a long game at all. It's a great use of immsim mechanics to tell a believable story. The house is just so concentrated with story without seeming like everything was placed conveniently to throw the story in your face.

Let's make it look real, but sub 30 fps.

Really though, I find it pretty mind boggling that up to now, no one has really played with art style except indies. Nintendo has been putting out amazing looking games running at 60fps (albeit 720p) on the Wii U, just because they use a less realistic art style.

Just played two sick rounds . First one everyone just leaves because of a dude whining about the team, second one someone DCs on T side Nuke while winning (?!) then at the end (losing) a mega-douchy dude starts whining about a teammate and then me (mind you, I'm top fragging), then pulls the team damage card. Why do I play this game, again?

Just played a bit of this game, 4/4 of my random teammates were jerks. Well, let's never do that again.

You know I got nothing but love for you Puddy but I think that reveal trailer really didn't do the game any justice. I actually found it pretty lame and annoying. I'm gonna wait for some proper footage before I judge. I mean, I'm done with zombies too (Dux said it best). However, The Last of Us proved to me that there's still live in that setting as long as you use it well. I had the same with the movie Warm Bodies. The trailer made me cringe but it turned out to be a pretty clever and entertaining movie that did something original with an overused setting.

Yeah, Overkill has some expectations to beat, but I totally think they can pull it off.

I just mean that there are so many zombie games out now and in development, it's the new WW2 and it's such a bummer. I was really hoping for something new and original.

For me it's not even that this is zombies, it's Walking Dead. There's so much Walking Dead stuff out there now.

Um, unless I'm missing something, the lighting preview is in no way real-time light rendering. They're just projected shadows and flat coloring, a replacement for the shaded textured view. It was actually kinda disappointing after working with UE4 so much. It might look decent for outdoor Dota 2 maps, but anything else it's extremely plain and not very reliable or accurate. It's still better than nothing, but hopefully this is still pretty alpha and we might see proper lighting later on.

Also the quasi-realtime radiosity is awesome, I didn't see that before. Proper day/night cycles in source 2 makes me happy.

It is the Dota lighting. I'm pretty sure the editor is an in-engine view.

I prefer 1.6's shooting (and the dated aesthetics are still great), but CS:GO is better in almost every other respect.

I need to know :1. Is this really a port of Dota 2 from Source 1 to Source 2 (with the exact same graphics and gameplay)2. Would such a thing be possible for CS:GO Seriously guys i'm too much excited, this is awesome

Yep! Dev tools are running Source 2. I shot a CS dev a tweet about it, so hopefully he'll confirm if CS:GO will be ported
