paintdotnet ftw !!
What game is it for ?? csgo ?
Who cares about dishonored 2 anyway ?
:v just kidding
Valve Hammer Editor is a 3D Volumetric software.
Blender is 3D Surface software.
They are really different, and you're really not supposed to create a map on another software (because of optimization for example). As fmpone said, you should try to create modular assets.
By the way, have you already made a collision mesh for a model before ? It's very restricted, you have to decompose the geometry into many simple convex shapes, and there is a max number of shapes allowed by the compilers. It will be impossible to make something smooth if it's a big slope !
Quote from clankill3rI want to make a surf map for source engine.
Only I think hammer is not the right tool for a surf map.
I just did some baby steps with blender for it, nothing impressive. My goal for now is to make the tools for blender to make it as easy as possible. For now I want to figure out that the ramp is automatic as long as the curve.
This might sound easy but I think it will be a bitch. In the end I hope that I can make a map with blender without touching hammer. I decided to freelance less and work more on my own projects.
Money is worth nothing a teacher of mine always said, I think he is right
But how to you deal with the collision mesh ? Do you think you can generate it like this ?

I'm too old for this shit

@Corwin not having the internet stimulates you to find the answer yourself, which is the best way to learn I'd say.
I have that 40-50 min leg as well just, as I said, don't have a project to work... even in that case, would be basically impossible to work on 3D/level design/UI if I couldn't find a seat with table (which is what happens in most cases).
It's a nice article, interesting to learn this kind of stories.
The opposite can also happen, people who made indie games for long and feel the need to come back to a company :

But yes, i guess it's rarer.
Hello, hello, hello.
Just wanted to keep you "up to date" about my internship, even if it isn't related to the game industry.
Things have been fine since i've chosen the concepts for my drone design (which must be able to work on the ground, in the air and on water). I'm trying to adapt it for 3d printing, because we're going to buy one 3d printer and the mockup must be made with it (most of the parts). Si that's exciting, i hope it will be a great object in the end (with motors, captors, propeller, switchs, battery... Nice stuff :p).
In terms of technical knowledge, they love my job, they are really glad to see this project finally moving forward like... A lot! So that's why they told me they wanted to hire me, and that 1 spot was open in the place i'm currently working at (a full time job i mean), but that there was already a colleague of mine trying to get the job. That annoyed me a lot because we're sort of friends. I asked the boss to speak with him during the week, i told him about the fact that i really like working here, about my future projects of trying to work on a videogame one day... And he told me they would hire both of us, that i'm hired to work as a mechanical engineer at the end of my internship and that he would like me to start a project with 3d or videogames involved, something they call "serious game". I don't really think i'll be ever able to work on a game here but that's an interesting idea ![]()
Anyway, in any case i'm really glad to start my career here, as a mechanical design engineer first and then i'll see. Thanks for reading ![]()
I already got an access at the PGW (Paris Games Week) but maybe we can play together ? Is it coop or PvP ? I don't even know what it will be
We're with you Vaya, i hope everything will be fine now
I've got a µATX motherboard and case to be able to put my computer inside my suitcase with my 24" monitor and clothes and stuff (yes, i am crazy).
It wasn't particularly expensive or anything : ~100€ for the Asus P8Z77-M and ~90€ for the Lian Li PC-A04 - Silver (it was 4 years ago). The huge Noctua NH-C12P SE14 fits inside, with my huge GTX 670 from Gigabyte (Ultra Durable 2 or something like that) and the i5-3570K is overclocked at 4.3 Ghz.
The temps are fine, not exceptional but it's ok.
I'd love to make a mini-ITX gaming PC but i'm afraid it's hard to make it work, there are great designs though but i don't know about the noise and dust filtering. Instead, i built myself a mini-ITX server/NAS ![]()
@clankill3r You are not really supposed to take a screenshot from Google Street View and post it in this topic !
Just kidding it looks really great, what engine are you using to get such an accurate lighting ? Some windows pattern are a little bit repetitive, but it's alright. Good job
The first one was really nice, working very well and using a simple and effective game design. There was just this luck part that was a bit disappointing, sometimes you won the level without really wanting to do it the way you won it. But yea, whatever.
Good luck with Ultraflow 2, obviously i'm going to do it ! ![]()
Quote from FMPONEDo we know what the Vive will cost?
No, nothing yet. I've tried the Vive and a DK2 kit, there was just no comparison. Technically there wasn't a big gap but the experiment of moving in a virtual space with real movements is unparalleled. And the technology used is a lot more advanced and smart (in my opinion). That's why i'm also more willing to know the Vive's price.
Quote from MazyStill not entirely certain if I'll get this one or a PS VR, or if I'll just end up skipping it entirely this year
PS VR won't have PC support (and access to all the ridiculous game jam shit that'll be the most fun) and the hardware is obviously a lot more limited compared to a good PC, but getting the Rift basically means that I'll have to buy a new PC as well, and then it'll probably be closer to $1500 for the entire thing.
I am surprised that people thought it would be a lot cheaper than $599 though, seemed pretty clear that the early adopters would always have to pay a fairly high price to get in, would be wonderful if it was cheaper tho
I guess that's because the DK kits were sold at 300$ ?
And that the technology is basically a 5 - 6" smartphone screen, 2 lenses and few sensors ... Ok maybe a bit more
But for 600$ (740€ with shipping in france ! what the fuck!!!) you don't even get the Occulus Touch !
This stuff :

Hey, you got an article on a french website called "Nofrag", this website is only focused on fps :
http://www.nofrag.com/2015/dec/27/48536/
I guess it's not much for you, but it's always nice to hear about this great project on a website you read everyday.
I am using Blender, I think i've learned the most with this "simple" tutorial where you're just told what to do without much talk :
http://cgi.tutsplus.com/tutorials/mode…art-1--cg-12763
And if you know what kind of models and stuff you want to work on, you can easily remember some manipulations. It's also very effective to force you to learn the shortcuts, which are a burden at the beginning but really useful in the end.
Don't hesitate to ask questions about it i should be able to answer you. For example how to chose which edges you want to be sharp or smooth, how to bake ambiant occlusion maps, how to learn some advanced stuff about unwrapping with blender (and not just press U -> Unwrap ^^), etc...
You're on the wrong side dude
