  • New way to send a cover letter

    • blackdog
    • April 16, 2013 at 1:07 AM

Nice idea, the main concerns have already been stated. The main one is accessibility (and yt URLs are not so friendly to type), so just have a backup plan.

    Quote from NeilJones313

Well if they can look at a demo reel they should be able to view it

Big difference: a reel can be just watched, if you don't listen to your cover letter what does it conveys?

Since we are at it, I'd say you record the audio again because it seems you are wispering, while i'd expect a nice, bright voice if I have to listen to it.

    Quote from insta

A employer is never going to hire a less skilled worker because of his/her coverletter, even though it runs at 28 fps and has stereo audio. Any time not spent on the actual content of the portfolio is pretty much wasted. IMHO~

Fair point, but the presumption here is about same quality portfolios and what would differentiate them. It is not that a couple of hours... or even a complete day of video editing, will make a difference in your modeling proficency.

    Quote from insta

Also, won't it be embarrassing when the "similar videos" thingy on the side will show similar coverletters to competing companies?

One thing to be careful of for sure; you either do that for a single company or... make the videos private, guess it shouldn't pop-up in the "related" then. Otherwise you have to feed it via personal website.

I'd say push more purple... and you get the Blood Dragon setting [Blocked Image: http://forum.multiplayer.it/images/faccine/asd.gif]

Jokes aside, do agree with the posts above.

    FMPONE: ok, understood

OT: is it really Aztec not popular now? (i've played cs:go just a few times) When i was still playing regularly CS:S a couple of years ago it was still "the shit" for lots of players. Me, personally always hated it, always found it unbalanced for Ts... and always got pounded hard during clanwars

it seems really bipolar right now. its raining on a very sunny day but the rocks are extremely cooly lit, etc. seems to make virtually no sense I'm afraid. I would really sit back and rethink the lighting, perhaps going back to the night but just making the walls brighter

Since the impending deadline, wouldn't be probably more easy just to cut the rain effect for the contest, and then adjust for a final release?

Maybe a bit too yellow-ish illumination, as a whole?

In the art-gallery room the floor texture seems too upscaled to me, it gives me a sense like if the walls in the middle are floating... at least I would try to break it up.

    You mean this one?

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/226459/?snr=1_7_7_151_150_1

seems to me there's some multiplayer material, and since i don't play mp i wouldn't know how to value the whole package, in case you are asking me.

Singleplayer contents seems limited to a few additional hunts and the same missions i just played, so i wouldn't pay that (or any at all) amount for the singleplayer alone.

If you are in for some more action, i'd reset the status of the game and go after the pirates outposts all over again, I was thinking to do that myself.

Watched Louis C.K's latest HBO special (Oh My God), pure brilliance, as usual.

Woot, I must get around it.

I'm still beating myself up that I didn't check if he had dates in UK when I was planning my visit, if i got there a week earlier, I could have seen the man live T_T

Btw yesterday I watched Premium Rush, which it is what it is; as Gordon-Levitt himself says "a pop-corn movie", enjoyed it. Funny the vfx scenes to visualize his "instincts" for dodging traffic.

Just finished the bonus missions that come together in the "The Lost Expedisions Edition"... it's annoying to give the final greeting to such a good game with this kind of experience.

Luckily those don't last 40 minutes of play, as printed on the box, because it was just boring: one of the 3 missions is even just a looting raid

Huh, this is on a Coldplay track on Viva La Vida, I didn't realise they sampled it from this. Interesting. (PS Coldplay suck!)

I knew the tune but I couldn't tell until I went on Hopkin's wiki... it was long time I wasn't listening to that album.

  • Flashback remake (demake?)

    • blackdog
    • April 12, 2013 at 5:47 PM

As soon as I saw the thumbnail yesterday, I was hyped; after a few plays of the trailer, not so much. My first concern would be controls, they don't seem as fluid as they should and I've been burned already by the remake of Lode Runner.

Then the art... after the trailer i ended up watching a little bit of the original from the yt related videos, and the 2.5D just isn't that cool.

As Minos, I'd be curious in seeing it in real 2D HD.

    Quote from Taylor

I hope this means someone is going to remake Rick Dangerous soon.

What about an ensemble of mapcorians?

  • The Real Problem with Metacritic - Sessler views

    Quote from Izuno

I deal with this issue all the time with both developers and publishers.[...]

in meetings with suits where they talk about metacritic scores of past games as a guide for what kind of game to greenlight I have to constantly bring up examples of games that scored well but sold poorly or scored poorly and sold well to try to get them to understand it is so much more complicated than a linear regression and a number.

    All this looks schizophrenic.

I mean: they want to refer to Metacritic to greenlight a production, then they ("supposedly") manipulate the press to get higher scores and (arguably) sell better... so they know Metacritic cannot be a trustful source of data.

Also, looks like they sometime manipulate the press to get lower scores and not pay bonuses?

It's nice there's someone that tries to educate them btw.

This is evil. In the sense that when you watch one of these thriller movie trailers, yt suggests you a pile, and i end up spending a good half of the morning adding things to my watchlist.

This movie was one of those, a couple of days ago I stumbled on it.

I would take this over FC3 any day.

For the art? Because gameplay seems perfectly the same, probably leaning much more toward shooting but looks just like a re-skinning.

While the art, as I said, I like it; I'm annoyed by some animations that look choppy and I'm not a huge fan of gratuitous offensive animation+sentences (i'm afraid they'll be quite repetetive instead of punctuation marks).

    Quote

Besides its a standalone experiement to get them different style of games, taking risks, etc. By using the FC3 name, which I said before, I assume is the only way to generate enough attention to do so

I totally get that, but can you blame me because it pisses me off? I'm feeling cheated, as well as lots of gamers posting elsewhere.

I personally encourage spin-offs, but I like consistent and cohesive experiences, not blatant commercial operations. But maybe on the flip side, some execs there are thinking they are being straight with us "look, this is the same game reskinned, we tell you, you know it". Either case, this doesn't seem to me going so far as taking real risks. (Talking as a gamer here.)

I was ready to throw my money at Ubisoft for whatever expansion they wanted to add to FC3, seriously enjoyed it. But this? I mean, as Thrik This is a mod, it's cheeky they slap the label on top of it.

I was loving the colors in the screens, love the ambience and vibe... but as I saw the leaked playthroughs my interest nosedived.

I think that my immediate, much more conspicuous, hype in finding out –thanks to the YT thumbnails at the end of the trailer– that Ubisoft is also about to release a remake of Flashback... says it all.
