The bright clothes wore by some speakers makes me wonder if they were color-coded by their role in the company.

Personally I'd go for an "overcast at dusk" setting. And also what Minos said about adding some saturated color spots.

I've seen an interview on IGN with footage this morning, they show the evolution of the title from the FPS presentation, transitioning to know.

I like the new take, even though I can say I did like aspects of any iteration; the linear-fps approach wasn't "X-Com", but was conveying something that seemed worth to be narrated.

I'm thinking if this whole thing wasn't just an error in comunication to the public, a concept that passed through the interview in which they say something like «People should not think 'this is X-Com' but rather 'this is a X-Com'».

I mean, i remember it was presented as a "Xcom reboot", while the new take clearly labels it as a spin-off.

Seems to borrow a bit from the XCOM: Enemy Unknown alien design.

This is something that should have been really planned ahead, a really nice touch of compactness in the narrative universe.

It's the same with their phones. You can just pull em out while it's raining and you don't have to be afraid of water damage, quite nice

Frankly, i don't think that most phones would have any problem in the rain, the problem with electronics is when immersed. But it's a neat feat, it just tells you the device has that extra kind of polish in material/construction/engineering.

And yeah, maybe this summer you play Angry Birds in the garden pool

Well, Siemens did it 13+ years ago, so... yeah

Well, apparently it's fake. The real thing is probably going to shape like a helix or some crazy shit.

Most probably, the design doesn't seem to be aligned at all with the pad they showed.

I don't think CS:GO players are outright embracing Operation Payback, but it's definitely not being dismissed imho. If I had to guess I'd say that Op Payback speaks to about 2-10% of CS:GO owners, which is fair enough.

Yeah, why pay when you can have it for free?

As far as I know, 3% is like a standard target in conversion rate, so good enough to say the least.

But i wanted to echo Jean Paul on the fact that community may seem to not embrace new maps (as well as in the past?). I'm not playing CSGO, so I don't have an idea, but i'm curious. It's an impression I always had since when I was playing dod and then cs (pre-steam, pre-source): the latter community seems less interested in playing new maps. Then, in general, since Source versions, custom maps seem even less played. (Not talking about TF2.)

As I said a few times before, if you actually play Operation Payback via the matchmaking system as it's intended to be played, then you'll see that quite a few players are playing the maps.

I'd expect no less, it would be weird to have people participating in the thing and then wine about. But a point can still be made about public servers (right?).

I can honestly say that every time I am in a full server that switches to any of these maps, there is a serious shit storm of people bitching and leaving the server. Are CS players just THAT unable to play new things?

Oh gawd i thought people would storm in, with CSGO the new (and wonderful) maps the community is pushing got much more attention than what was happening at CSS times.

' timestamp='1368135325' post='331783']Say all you want, he kinda spoke what we all think anyway.

    Yes and no.

Yes, there's a good chunk of truth in the concept you can extrapolate from what he said, but he took it all out on a specific title. I don't think that was random, i mean, critics are always pointing their finger at modern shooters in the last few years, yet he takes on the only title that has been several years in hiatus, and which anyways offers a different setting.

And he's "disappointed" that people writes him and accuse him to be all bitter because his company close down... what was he expecting?

I dunno, it's simply the concept "we make only violent games" that is misplaced, he should know that, since the kind of titles he worked on. I think that this is just a bias because this kind of games get a lot of press, but i remember reading in the past that there are actually far more titles that are non-violent... we very well see at the mall that most boxes don't have an "M" on top of it, and the end global sales of non-violent games outsell shooters by great numbers.

' timestamp='1368052833' post='331670']Also, Spector has been doing this longer than most of us walked this world, he's seen a lot, people need to give him a break. You're gonna be strong opinionated too if you get to his age and managed to stick to this industry, lol.

I respect the man, I really really enjoyed the talk he gave at the last DICE.

But frankly, do you need to come out like this? I mean "today": this is just bad timing to me, to say this kind of things. You could say the same thing about most of the games, this was a generation of sequels for the most part; I mean there are certainly lesser intersting IPs that get sequels... Wolfenstein still has peculiar traits that make it more intersting to develop than other brands.

There are a ton of games i'm so not interested i'm not even aware they are coming out, but i don't go and flame-comment "who needs another of this", because if it's being made, there's probably an audience for that, and as a gamer i respect those who want more of that, and i respect even more the developers behind it (which maybe don't even want to make a sequel of "Title XYZ", but they need to, if they want to stay in business, and they do their best anyways).

So, in my opinion, totally not cool for a veteran, an icon, to say this kind of things, especially on this specific title.

I think it was supposed to be a tighter community site for games industry specifically but it ended up being just another place for recruiters to add every single person in the industry.

That's understandable, we (as people) want to have a feeling of membership. But it's also a limitation, i mean... the Game Industry is employing people with different backgrounds (web designers, economists etc) so it's "contradictory" to migrate on a lonely island (if the objective is just to reduce the noise and you don't have peculiar features for the social group you are aiming at).

I joined one years ago which seemed cool for a little while called Playfire

I think it came out from the people who developed Xfire, i remember receiving a couple of newsletters to join.

It's a nice concept, but in the end I'm personally not interested... i mean, in the end I choose the games I want to buy without much influence from other people, and I find the couple of forum and articles I read when in doubt have served me well.

I'd prefear -and still have the project in a drawer- to have a space in my personal website, if I just want to share my thoughts on a game/movie/book.

Well, looks 3D to me, they always work in 3D so... i assumed that part, but seems very likely. Guess they managed to find the right values of contrast for the lights, I think the "comic book effect" is enhanced first and foremost by the stark shadows.

Am I the only one that finds the art fan-tas-tic?

This is the closest thing to a comic-book I've ever seen done in 3D, last shot seems to come out straight from Dylan Dog.

I'm really anxious to see this thing in motion.
