I saw the first two episodes of the Killing last night, they were pretty good, I think they've freshened it up suitably and it's good that they ditched that Rosie Larson case.

They solved it, since it was meant from the start (as far as i know) not to go over 2 seasons; so thank god nobody had the bad idea to try reuse the same victim and expand the narrative.

Good to know the show is still good

Falling Skies is something I watch, but I'm never sure how good it actually is. It's definitely under par compared to some of the other shows around, kinda like Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad etc

Definitely a filler for me, in fact i skipped it at first because of the production value... then during a downtime, after a friend told me it is a good filler, I got the first couple of episodes and got hooked enough to keep on. And it's clear they are increasing the number of viewers, because production value is clearly increasing, and story can be intersting enough for sci-fi cravers.

Plus, i always had Noah While in simpathy

i was hoping that 343 inds. are making BIG AAA game not somth like this

you know, subtitles like the one they used here usually stands for some spin-off... strange move btw.

Wonder if it will be ported to XBLA too in a few months, I'm not an Halo fan but I'd definitely try for fun, if it would play better than Alien Breed I could even consider getting the full version.

I wanted to edit in a "PS" but you got here first.

The only thing that's breaking the immersion for me, is that things seem a bit too easy for the party... I mean, the Observers survey the air conditions, but they don't notice that power is being drained and directed to an abandoned lab? They walk quite freely around, and only Doc. Bishop gets picked up by cameras? And in straight-up fights aren't they too weak? I mean, this guys can fucking blink and have augmented strength; ok that this portrayal makes them appear to fail because they are too self assured, but...

My facebook subscriptions this morning notified me that Falling Skies is about to come back, and also The Killing just did... with seasons/shows ending recently, i thought I had some time to pick up stuff I left behind long ago

yeah especially in games like TF2 or any other assault game mode: more deaths towards the end of the map (and maybe around the spawn) should be normal.

In fact that first example in the Dirty Bomb video seemed counter-intuitive to me, i was thinking what you just wrote. Of course you don't want in that gameplay mode to have your way paved and have an invalicable wall at the last objective, but then spreading very eavenly -like seems in the video- doesn't seem right neither. But that's really peculiar to the result you want to achieve.

    Thanks for the insight Kedhrin!

I guess the heatmap can help you evaluate if a map is really unbalanced. It was nice to see Valve applied the principle to sp also (at least, it was the first time i saw something like that).

Speaking of tools, I dunno if this is a totally stupid idea, but when I was testing an HL2 sp mod, i got the idea that in dev mode you could have a "debug gun" (which could simply be a console command), which would allow the tester to mark a location and enter a comment right away. On his end the level designer could scroll a list of entries, and the map editor would reposition the camera/select areas/entities accordingly.

So it seems from the screens you definitely use the lanterns to indicate a path afterall

I just subscribed the map; I don't (can't )really play CS right now, but I'll have at the very least a run-through for real today.

Yeah I was a big fan of Fringe. The way they transformed the show in the last few seasons was impressive [...]a shame it took a couple of seasons to become totally unique and awesome. I still got hooked to the first season but you can tell they only really figured out what they truly wanted to do during the second — from that point on everything tied together nicely.

You said it best [Blocked Image: http://forum.multiplayer.it/images/faccine/birra.gif]

Btw the objectives for Fringe at the beginning were quite different (after the Lost "marathon" they wanted a more episodic show - from an interview with JJ I saw).

I would say that it's really the difference between each season that makes the show intersting, strange in its sum, but it always offered something new in each stage.

Now I'm missing the last 5 episodes, and it's nice to see how they are picking up stuff from the first seasons, it's like they gave us first the "building blocks", it makes it all more solid.

I'm really curious to see how they wrap up, because at the beginning everything was Olivia-centric, I want to see if they go full circle or what.

Anyways, i'm confused (my mind is constantly going back to that "outro" between S3 an S4 with "Future Peter" and I simply don't remember how they wrapped with the alternate universe thing, maybe i should go back at least to some of those episodes since I kept them)

Yeah, I remember about Valve games, they publicly let people know in different occasions and games they do profile.

Thanks for the UE3 reminder, I usually watch all the tech demos and trailers, so I must have seen it and forgot about it.

No seriously, is this such secretive stuff that anybody cannot talk about...?

I mean, I'm not asking details, it was just to understand how widespread this practice is.

The particular video show such beautiful tools that makes me wonder if is not viral marketing, and they are going to start selling those as a solution for everybody who is interested, you know, integrate our APIs and get this beautiful reports. (Unless that was just all fake.)

Do you do a lot of profiling on the (multiplayer) games you are working on?

    I'm picking up with

    [Blocked Image: http://images.buddytv.com/articles/Fringe-S5PosterMain.jpg]

that I left behind to enjoy in a speedrun. I wish I had the chance to watch more episodes back-to-back.

Unfortunately, after all this time, I'm failing to remember some bits of the story :/

    Anybody seen it?

In the first episodes I got the impression that they structured much alike a video-game with this "recovering the plan bits" thing... I thought: "I see what you are doing JJ, well played".

Now I've just watched ep #6 and... this is turning very much to The Matrix! [Blocked Image: http://forum.multiplayer.it/images/faccine/japu.gif]

I'd only complain that these Observers go down too easily, for all the power they are supposed to have.

And, by the way, John Noble is quite great, I couldn't stand his character very much, in the first seasons he was too much of the comic shoulder of the show, but now he's arguably the main character.

I'm really hoping/curious to see JJ working with Valve for real.

This sixth episode made me think how well "dream" sections are being made in the last years, Alan Wake DLCs and even more Batman's... the one in Arkham City literally dropped my jaw.

The size of my stairs is usually determined by the height distance I need to cover

If you follow all the general measures, standardly-dimensioned stairs should work fine for you, you certainly shall not increase the step height just because you have to cover more vertical space: build more ramps... if they are too many, there's probably something wrong with the general idea and you should break it up(?). I don't think Valve does make you climb more than 3 ramps in a row

    Looks interesting.

Deffo Super Meat Boy mechanics (in a general sense) with Portal 2 setting (maybe too much of it?).

Yeah, definitely... doors A-B and item droppers are identical to Portal's.

I'd hope they would try something different, but I've listened to a lenghty Q&A and it seems the project is pretty definitive as it is, just "more (difficult!) levels, more themes" (acid theme, night theme etc).

I hope they spend some time polishing, because with that little more it could really be intersting for lot of puzzle-platformers fans.
