Just out of curiosity, why do you favor xbox on top of the ps3? (This is NOT a fucking flame attempt, I am genuinely interested)

For me the X360 was the first console too, and i chose it because

    A) DualShock is crap

    B) I compiled a list of games and, at the time, MS had more games that would please me.

PS3 is something that became relevant just in the last couple of years for me (and i'd even get a used one for the top sp exclusives).

At this round, I did like a lot PS4 from the unveil, controller seems fixed and the sharing functions and Gaikai integration is cool.

All things considered though, I could have been still interested in the One: I don't like the 24h ping on a moral perspective and extreme case scenario (Thrik examples in previous pages), but is something I could have lived with, and if they had announced lower prices, it would have been quite a winning hand.

    Also, the controller improved again

It's nice MS took a step back, I hope they find a better solution for consumers now. I dunno, "DRM opt-in: your get this added value [console is cheaper, cheaper games, lending etc]".

Anyways, not getting any console until a price cut.

    Lol, anyone seen this? https://twitter.com/BreenGrub

It's by the HL1/HL2 writer. I don't think it's officially sanctioned/canon but it's basically meant to be Breen after the events of HL2 after having been turned into an advisor grub.

    What about another ARG?

You will need this information if you are to succeed. I cannot use it. I am beyond useless. If I can be of use, that is enough.

    etc.

In general, what doesn't come out of the E3 demo is the liberty of exploration.

I haven't played the previous titles, I just played the demo of the original title when it came out, until I had experimented in every way possible (and that was 10 hours by itself already)... that said, I remember it was possible to climb everywhere there was a wooden surface the rope arrow could attach to; here seems the team is using the same principle of the new Tomb Raider: you can climb where there's a roped wooden beam.

I still remember as one of the best moments in gaming, a guard coming to investigate, while I had disappeared climbing above him, attached to a beam, like they do in the movies

Game looks good enough but don't like what i saw in the gameplay. The small fov+vignette gonna be annoying as fuck.

I think the vignette is fine, what I don't dig much is its supposed function (you have the vignette if hidden in the dark i guess?) is duplicated in the HUD (with the light-gem).

In regard of what you wrote, i might add I wouldn't be happier to choose between first/third person, usually controls aren't as smooth as when devs focus on one. This title definitely could be also nice to play in third person though.

Just choose one perspective and stick to it, I didn't like much to see the switch to a fixed camera angle to highlight the takedown.

Nice the borrowing option, if they go through.

It would be nice to also give a game to someone else, i mean, there are a couple of games I didn't like and used just a few hours that clutter my list and i'd be happy to give to someone for free.

Even last night my internet connection went down for 15 minutes or so, what am I meant to do when that happens? Play with no physics/AI? Well the game would presumably just stop working completely.

I understand you use the cloud to do some processing, then update something on the local machine; that's what I've got from the Forza demo/unveil. Sure nothing like that can be processed in real time at acceptable performance, so asynchronous jobs.

What's quite clear though, is that all this makes things much more complicated to build/manage.

it was live for sure, but what hardware this might be the question

As for Thrik, those perfect voice-acted communications raised my eyebrows too.

How could it have been live, if it was pre-rendered as HP says... or I didn't understand what he means? I had the clear impression that most of the on-stage demos were recorded.

I think the fear is that if a publisher is free to implement any kind of restriction, they could do themselves "always online" requirements and the likes.

Congrats, everything looks great, I do particularly like as well the long stairs area.

One only complaint: i'd get rid of the brick arch in the building in the bomb-area, doesn't feel right to me. First looks cramped in between the other arches and the roof (=no breathing space); it's also very peculiar, so imo feels repetitive, with another building having it, but using it more effectively (thanks to the balcony)

    Quote from Squad

Redid the building with the arches, gave it a more uniform texture as well so it should fit better in the map now.

A great question. We don't really know the true elasticity of the demand curve on games. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elasticity_(economics))

Thanks for the insight Izuno; I wanted to also read the MS engineer post before replying, Jason Rubin points were also intersting.

I understand what you mean, I know it's difficult/impossible to project sales in these scenarios so... did they ever considered, for eg, trying to do this with a couple of (lesser important) titles? I mean, Remedy did that twice with the Max Paynes*... and they were successful (enough).

*as far as I can remember, at the time PC games cost was 49€ and I remember getting MP2 for 35€ – and I remember because it was "oh great, i don't have to wait for discounts. And I even get a 'special edition' lookalike box!"

    Quote

Clearly, if $40 was the new $60 then more people would buy more games for sure. Publishers are terrified to lower the prices of software for fear they won't make up the profits. They assume that demand for a game is fixed based on quality (metacritic) and some measure of buzz and then ad spending. We know it's not like that in reality, but when you get lots of suits and MBAs in a room...

I remember you writing something like that already when talking about Metacritic... but from down here, looks quite crazy.

Despite I came about a motto like "Not even free is cheap enough" after the discussions I read everyday, I'd have some more confidence in my products.

I know a lot of people buys new just because they know they can resell it in two weeks, and buy another new at discounted price.

Has anybody tried to track the used-tail market, by this I mean how many time a single copy is sold again. Let's say that in the US, used market is ~75% like HP was saying above, but you find that 30% of these copies are not sold again, that could mean ~30% more would buy a game on D1, if at used price.

I'm curious to see if MS will try juggle prices after reading the thoughts of that engineer. I mean, the whole point of Steam was indeed experimenting, and Valve said that openly to its customers, you can really do that only in a safe environment like that.

I would think they'd place an heavy blow on Sony if they announce their games are coming at less than 60$ (while I think I've read last year people suggesting an increase because the state of the Industry?).

    Quote

Notice how both MSFT and Sony did not announce software prices?

Do they usually do that? I don't remember following Press Conferences before halfway thorugh this generation (my Xbox is my first console after the Atari XE I got second hand from my cousin when I was young ).
