Well Rivals is the most recent, I didn't get to try it (my Xbox is not connected to internet since I moved in uk one year ago); I tried Most Wanted 2012 and it wasn't bad but still I didn't like the driving enough. And as you say the concept of picking up cars was odd.
I only tried the demo of the first Grid and found it a bit too stiff as well.

Depends how they'd do the driving model (for NFS) because they've fiddled with it in every title that came after the original Underground and never dig it enough to play full games, I've tried most of the demos of the different games and the driving was always awful.
Right now the only arcade driving game that satisfies me is Forza Horizon (haven't tried the 2 tho)

Really a shame they closed it, s2 is much better.
I installed Homefront and played couple hours.

Personally I hate Dropbox. I only used it for our two silly mobile games but it was a pain, forcing an update as soon as you boot a computer, when there were huge updates would basically prevent me from working until it was finished.
Dunno if they changed stuff, but I'm under the impression that it simply replaces files instead of up/downloading the differences.
I see it good only for exchanging files, like a place where to drop builds, media, not to manage a project.

I still have to have a look at gdrive (I'm at my gf, unfortunately no internet yet and my phone coverage is rubbish - I'm on Edge!), but having two parallel project was the thing I was suggesting to keep more people active – if they wish to be of course.
I wouldn't venture in in remaking such a big thing [like Blue Shift] but an idea could be to take a memorable level and redo it, or take poetic license and make something new revolving around a memorable scene, from BS or OP4 or HL…you know, one of those "how would this look like from another perspective?" things.
Then as I said, I always wanted to see Riot Act get to completion (and the mod got solid reviews and +500k downloads – hope you all played or heard about it!) but I also drafted a couple of spin offs for HL2, rebels storylines and stuff.
