Ye never played MGS, tried the first one on pc but despite doing the tutorials couldn't get past the first room lol* XD it was too much of an awkward old game after being used to Splinter Cell.

I do love stealth so no doubt I'll play it, I have bought it after all, just I would have preferred they had sticked to one perspective. Bring Jensen such a cool character I would say is like to see him 100% the time on screen. Plus all reviews were saying fps is a bit awkward there and not executed flawlessly

*since now it's multi platform is very likely I'll play the new one, the first demo they showed in the desert reminded me of the stealth sandbox I was dreaming about when 13

Haven't yet played the first one :-/ I was tempted to install the other day but postponed as I was feeling the need for something casual. Also checking footage again, I was really bothered by the first-third person switch.

The art looks stunning again. Sci-fi nerds paradise.

What you see is possible thanks to the awesome new compilers and the ambient occlusion that was introduced a couple of months ago.I was going to ask what version of Q1 was this, I knew it was cos you always pay that sort of work, but the textures are amazingly higher resolution, are they?

The Leadwerks engine has a built-in store through the Steam Workshop, so Valve can definitely support the same kind of thing.

Actually, that would be the direction you expect them to go, as from interviews Gabe gave in the past, talking about expanding Steam.

also bought a new keyboard and mouse, was using a very oldschool one before, these mechanical keyboards are awesome.

What mouse did you get? I'd say Steelseries but can't really tell. Also what about the keyboard (brand/model)

I think one thing you're missing in your version of cs_estate, is that the original one has nicer and more interesting shape for the building as it's not just rectangle:

You mean that he's missing the opportunity to make a richer architecture? Because it looks very faithful to the original to me

  • The random level generation/map instancing problem

    • blackdog
    • April 6, 2015 at 4:30 PM

Has anyone here worked on randomly generated levels for FPS games and have suggestions on best practices and design choices to give, material to link?

Was having a brainstorming chat this morning about this.

There are different options I can see straight away on how to tackle the instancing, in particular classic maps with randomly positioned items and AIs, or a step further create map-blocks to be assembled to create the current stage a player would play.

I like that Ashton; I know theme is restrictive, but maybe a central taller building to help orientate? And being able to climb some roofs would make a difference

Chateau, horribly CT sided to the point where you could expect an 8-0 in casual and 14-1 in competitive if it was ever played in its current layout.

Got ya. Not sure if we ever played in CW; I remember in fun to have good times more often than not, and also with Ts... but was so long ago

Woah, that map looks amazing. If I was any capable of making such models I would definitely remake that map.

There was also a map set in Rotterdam we used to play on LANs back in the day, but whenever I google Rotterdam I only get the old, official one.

I would have thought of 3D_Mike's holland map, but I've found this

  • NEW Unreal Tournament!!!

    • April 4, 2015 at 10:34 AM

So just downloaded this yesterday (along the whole UE4 toolkit) and tried to play online but no server join after more than a minute.

Played a match with bots and game runs smooth with all settings set to "epic" on my nootebook!

I was expecting to see some more maps, or better said, more refined maps in the pool, with all people playing with UE. Is any map there from the Mapcore contest? Is anyone here making something for this?
