I was liking the idea and the art when it was in development, feels like it's been there forever, and I dunno, what I saw more recently didn't interest me.

Then I saw this and lost any vague interest

Spoiler alert: in one hour of game he spent as much money as a retail game, getting nowhere. Can't stand these mechanics.

If the money calculations were right, or even off mark, say 1/4 of the Steam sales... realize how much is that! 1/4 for one game! Frankly I don't see any reason, money wise, not to make HL3!

I obviously agree that they need something special, like they had been looking for HL2 at the time. Apparently they were looking at implementing the Director from L4D in the next HL chapter (Ep3/HL3). They might have discarded that after tests.

Anyway, I think it will be other 10 years before they officially cancel the game, the tease keep people interested and focused on what Valve does.
In terms of the game coming out, I still want to believe. Valve to me looks a lot like Google: they have "unlimited" resources (read: revenue and any talent would want to work there) but they don't have a boss outside the company. If I was Gabe, I was happy to sink money on it just to keep experimenting and finding the right recipe.

On the VR argument, I would add that Chet, at the talk I was present at, explained that they have proof that VR is not good for traditional experiences (again, very Google of them), that's why they're working with several indie devs for new and original stuff. And that's why HL3 shouldn't be an exclusive.

I'm frankly more interested in finding out why someone like the lead on the VR project changed team to go with Oculus.

This editorial is less credible than announcing that HL3 will be crowdsourced through Mapcore.

I've seen a few videos of these guys in the past, they seem to only blabber smoke to scrounge some views (hence income). I don't like them, they're full of shit.

Math they've done ("conservative"!) doesn't make much sense (they guesstimate HL3 sales/revenue based on solely retail, when the totals used to calculate HL1 & 2 come from years of presence on the market, sales etc. half the copies are likely to be from sales, re-releases etc.

Above all you don't risk your company with a title you're afraid the backlash of. It would be stupid to force it out because your revenue plummeted (which is virtually impossible).

Finally on the VR exclusive, because of their company culture, I'm sure they wouldn't make it exclusive… also that would cause death threats! :D

Yeah, I'm convinced that the central theme for the writers was to show how people change with money and power.

  • What do you think about the new look?

Yeah I'm not a fan of this instant result, makes too difficult writing a post imo. And I mean really clicking the cursor around pics etc. especially on mobile. Paddings are not very well thought in the template.

If there was a preview/thumbnail a-la facebook would be different.

    Yeah October-November is my understanding.

Hope the wait will pay off :)

Maybe just play a demo of Asylum, if available, to get the feeling.

Well of course I'm partial because I love it, but although if probably is not necessary to play them all in terms of fun... you are gonna really, really miss out.

And it's not too much of a spoiler to play this one first, because you don't live under a rock so you probably already know -- I think the ending of Arkham City was part of the marketing campaign. The central thing is the journey of experience.

As HP said there's genius behind this; after all it's the first comic book tie-in that really works.

To draw a comparison, would be like watching Dark Knight Rises without the others. Sure you would enjoy, you would say "Oh the Bat Pod is cool!", but you wouldn't know how it came about!

Skipping the first two Arkhams is like missing out on Heath Ledger performance: that's maybe the best portrayal of a villain in cinema, Mark Hamill's is the same for videogames. You wouldn't have the sense of progression of the characters and really appreciate the amazing work they've done here to cap it off.

Definitely playing everything now in a hurry is a tour de force, so if you feel you can wait, you can either get Arkham Asylum and see how you get on*, or wait a few months for the remastered version that is planned, and then get Arkham Knight in the inevitable GOTY edition.
I dunno if they spoil what for me is the best part of the game, which pays off precisely thank to the previous games, but I suggest not to read any review: check out the trailers and take it from there.

Arkham Origins is most definitely forgettable, as a fan I didn't like it. It's more of the same in the wrong way, what's missing there is a story with teeth really. Plus Joker is played by "that actor that plays all the voices of the big games", Troy Baker. As amazing that he was in Last Of Us, as the Joker he's rubbish. Or simply they mixed the sounds wrong (I had trouble understanding many dialogues, feels like the voice is on the same channel as sound effects).

*I feel the need to add that when Asylum came out I waited several months, I wasn't convinced by the videos (never been into button mashing games) and even after playing the demo I took some time to buy a "top seller" edition, those cheaper re-prints.

Goddamn. Started playing after work yesterday "I'll play one hour before showering", I played till 1am straight :-|

And that's only to finish the Riddler's quest. Got to 97% of total completion. A few trophies are annoying, but most make you feel smart, very well designed.

Margot seems fitting in the role. The Joker we haven't really seen it but Jared Leto has done such a good job in his previous roles that I'm being positive. Makes me think of a mature version of the one in the Arkham games.

I also like Killer Croc, the costume is done well, just I wish they could make him feel bigger.

The other ones are meh, especially Will Smith.

That being said, this is a very important project for DC, it has to fit with the Batman v Superman tone, has to provide material for future movies, so I'm sorta hopeful.

Just old timer whining here… spraying started to be necessary already late in the CSS cycle, I remember after I abandoned because of hit boxes/netcode never fixed, friend who was playing competitive told me so.

It is so shit really, I find it very inelegant. Probably that's why I couldn't adapt to GO, although I wasn't able to play as much as I wanted. Now that I have a computer the Internet is shit…

Fired it up late last night (after watching Man Of Steel) and been up till 7 ?

I completed the main story, like 77% of the game.

    It's a masterpiece.

Really like the new art style, I'm kinda interested after seeing such grandious locations, all that building system… if it was only third person and with better animations I'd be happier.

Big problem is this is so big, it's gonna suck lives… and I'm already struggling finding the time to complete Batman.
