Yeah I can't see how they wouldn't be able to get enough money for another game.

People is probably pirating it because of what I was saying… it seems too minimal and not varied in terms of activities that probably people are afraid to waste money.

I almost never read the video descriptions -_-' it is not completely honest maybe the way it's presented, but to be fair it seems to be a very good sum of those articles (haven't read those presentations)

Due to the lack of an ignorant tips a-la GoW, and to Mad Max and Mafia 2 having performance problems (the former might be ok now but…) I went back to Arkham Knight, where the latest DLC restoring some classic challenge maps was given to everyone. Also is possible to drive the Batman v Superman Batmobile in some other driving challenges.

So I've stacked another 20hrs between those activities and completing the Game+ (and still not done).

I was annoyed at first that performance after the latest update seemed worsened and the game was lagging for the first time with somewhat constant 24fps or lower. Then I went to unlock the frame rate in the cfg files and it's smooth as butter :| I don't understand though, the nVidia driver indicates a rock solid 30fps (never drops) but it feels like 60fps. (I know how it feels cos it was pretty much stable between 40-60 on my machine on older versions)

Ok I'm gravedigging this because seems more appropriate than derailing the new Doom topic, or put it in other technical topics but that are aiming to something else.
We should have some sort of game design container though.

Anyway, got linked this and I think it explains things perfectly. Sort of basic/intuitive stuff, but fundamental to a game. I wonder if id is managing to achieve this with the new one.

I could have never explained it, I wouldn't have known the terms... makes me feel ignorant.

I'm currently trying to work through the Dishonered DLC. Nothing wrong with it but I just don't feel it. I think that, at least for me, DLC only works when I can immediately begin after the main game (assuming it's good). Because somehow, I never get into afterwards. Anyone else experiencing that as well?

I was totally fine playing the Alan Wake DLCs waaaay after the game. Actually played the whole game a second (and then third) time before doing so.

    Still counts?

I remember that article, yes makes sense of course. I remember reading for eg of a guy leaving MS for Google and then going back because didn't like the de-structure they have. Everyone has his needs, and one could want the security and benefits that only a big company could offer (although these days, "security" it's not so much, at least for the small cogs)…

But I would argue that they are actually not that different point of views @leplubodeslapin: the accent on both articles is the teamwork, Briscoe talks about being alone, the ex-Ubi talks about being in too much of a big team which leads him… well almost in the same situation.

Also Briscoe went to Valve, which despite being big, still has an indie attitude (apparently) and you have that authorship by working in smaller teams etc. So on paper, the best of both worlds! ;)

Maybe they hostaged the movie? They do on superhero movies… can imagine even more on sensible subjects. They still want to convince they went to Iraq because 9/11 (it's too embarrassing admitting they followed the bogus trail Italians spread about dirty weapons)

    Just went seeing The Ravenant.

Damn it's good. Maybe because I haven't seen a movie like this in ages, or because I didn't plan on seeing it (from trailer I thought it would lack in narration) but it brought me back to my youth adventure readings of stuff like White Fangs, or the stories of the Canadian horse police(?)

Just found there's a documentary making of

In my opinion space like that is the reason to why CS maps are so linear and full och corridors. Maps are mostly a theme and then a random set of corridors. Early cod games handled maps much better, with little to no "negative space". Look at maps like Crash, strike, terminal, highrise, backlot etc, all amazing competitive maps. I think mappers spend too little time on layout, mostly they spend the first few hours, weeks on it, and then months on the theme.

FMPONE: What is the name of the brick textures used in the map? Like this one http://puu.sh/l8qP4/fb7a98d77d.jpg to the right. Customs I guess since I have never seen it in another map.

yeah but remember that Source is very clunky, so that was a technical restriction originally, and CS gameplay is not a straightforward TDM that needs super-connected maps, null rotations (because you want to be firing 5 secs after spawning) etc. Also in the past mappers, wanted to control the use of grenades, and/or player weren't bothered by the invisible walls so there wasn't the need of openess as much as now.
Not sure the experience is very comparable. That being said, some principles should/could be taken into account and attempt made at achieving the feeling.

Well Jonathan Blow is good in making puzzles, it won't be the same all over again but it will build on previous knowledge. It makes me wonder what you would have added

I don't doubt that, but it looks like it's "just" labyrinth panels. Wonder if it'll grow boring.
My thought was going to narration though, doesn't feel like there is much/any, although might be a great example of environmental narration.

I've put it in my list and will see if to buy it straight away or wait a bit. The review make it sound as another time sinker...

@Corwin not having the internet stimulates you to find the answer yourself, which is the best way to learn I'd say.
I have that 40-50 min leg as well just, as I said, don't have a project to work... even in that case, would be basically impossible to work on 3D/level design/UI if I couldn't find a seat with table (which is what happens in most cases).

@will2k i remember giving the grey a 4/10 straight after watching it. Because I like survival movies and this one wasn't tense etc. From what I remember everything was very predictable, "surgically" scripted (timed).

Perfectly nailed it with the comparison of writing a book @Corwin. Also understand what you mean @3Dnj (was actually noticing contribution from people like you in past months), there are these amazing tools right now, but you are either making a game yourself or... non-playable scenes(?). There's not really games you can mod for. And one weird thing is that the new UT has it's own kit, I mean downloaded UE4 and was a bit annoyed that I had to download another set of stuff for UT. (Haven't started anything on either after -_- bought a video course with some assets to practice, so I'm planning to at least do that)

I myself use my daily commute to work to make sure I do something constructive so I don't feel this stagnation of my skills due to having so little time and energy once at home to do anything I'd like to do for my personal development.

How long your commute is, and what kind of thing you do? for the kind of commute I do, although if on the train, I can't seem to be able to do stuff. Between changes, bulkyness of the computer, not being already started on a project... I'm reading or trying to. I wis

Game looks so beautiful, I'm really curious to explore it. Puzzles didn't convince me too much, i mean they are abstract puzzles, which is not necessarily bad but is the only thing that there is. Seems a bit of a wasted opportunity.

PS: OpenCritic?? When did this thing came out??

I remember some of the articles he wrote about the engine. It had some interesting features for live editing and hot swapping. Ever object file in the game was plaintext and he could reload everything in a second or two. I have no idea how...

Game looks really beautiful. I haven't been interested in his previous games but I do want to try this.

Where are the articles? I've subscribed his YT channel but then he flooded it with the game dev language stuff that I couldn't really follow. Even just in terms of time, 1+ hour per video, don't have the time for something I can't work on.
