In terms of scripting, you're talking visual scripting and/or stuff like animated scenes, or stuff like LUA that modifies the behaviours of something?

Either case we talking of something not really screenshot-able (except for something like a blueprint); best thing imo is capture a video and then describe what you've done in a "case study" page on your portfolio.

I would even consider to display this sort of thing in a "gym" map, so that the environment doesn't distract from the core mechanics you've implemented.

Not that I tried it much, but I don't like L4D. The money I spent in the first is one of the worse spent ever in my life.

What do you guys think of these rumours of HL3 incorporating RPG mechanics? It's only based on the "quest" lines in the config files… if they create an open world structure, I'm thinking that they are calling "quests" the missions/NPC scripted behaviours

Strings and models and textures found in the newly released VR test prototype/show off.

    HL3 confirmed.

Yeah, I know they reuse, that's why I wanted to make sure the EP2 executable pulls all the necessary content files.

I was lucky enough to see a "related" news with the first video I'm posting, I totally missed out on the release trailer.

There's no preorder bullshit… but I kinda wanted to have the option, at least to know how much does it cost as there's no information whatsoever?

As this is the kind of game I need right now, if it's up to 20£ I'll get it straight away.

Lemurr in your case I was actually wondering recently if you were still on it, guess all the HL2 content i've seen recently reminded me of your project.

Do you guys know if there's anything to be particularly careful about when creating this maps? They require to be playable with just EP2 installed... but am I wrong or the SP SDK, pulls the "base" etc, so content from HL2? Does EP2 automatically pull all the base HL2 content as well?

I wish they cleaned up the mess they created with the Episodes, when I last tried to participate in one of the competitions I had to start Hammer separately cos from the SDK launcher just bugs out.

Didn't want to, but spent an hour and half yesterday watching the play through of the first challenge and must say there were a couple really good, in terms of polish and ideas.

Simce I've found out about it, my mind has been spinning thinking of the current one.

Right now that's how I feel, although I'm personally intrigued and for a bit I had in my head that I was going to buy the Vive/Oculus once it was clear what they would offer. I didn't really think much about requirements to run those things. One of the things I was skeptical is that at the beginning seemed like we were just going to get the same games, with the additional freedom of moving the camera, but we would still hold a pad - which doesn't seem that compelling.

We might be blessed with somewhat shorter cycles, compared to other technologies, as a lot of the innards useful to make these helmets are already being pushed and improved upon by smartphone companies.

On the plus side, there's a lot of interest and it looks like there are going to be lots of game/experiences early on, possibly more than what we've seen for example on the launch lineup of the latest consoles.

The whole movement is very intriguing, the limitations caused by the computer requirements and even worse, the usability problems with all those cables, make it so not accessible.

Also it's such a difficult thing to advertise, seeing people moving around with the VR helmet is somewhat unsettling I think (makes you think about alienation), but even worse you can't show it -- as Chet was saying at the EGX. On this aspect MS with the AR lenses has an advantage. You can see what it is, it's accessible, you can easily imagine party games (I think that Valve shouldn't have closed the AR department really).

So I just found out by chance that the HL2 site RunThinkShootLive is running an HL2 (obvs) mapping competition, but this time mappers compete on the long run. The contest is spread across 5 challenges (themes) and map makers need to enter at least 3 of these in order to win. Map are awarded different points for top 3, then there are bonus points.

Competition has already started, first challenge is long gone, the second has just started (18th feb) and there's time until the 7th to submit a map themed "Liberate", as usual open to interpretation.

All details here: http://www.runthinkshootlive.com/thc/thc16 winner takes home the Gravity Gun replica! A big deal for nerds :)

Well, I didn't mean to be literal, "original" as per "there are many ideas that haven't been explored in CSGO" -- I assume that's the game being referenced, but even if not, any game has themes that haven't been explored in that specific community.
