Well done @Bunglo, you remind me that there were a couple of short trailers/featurettes that I saw recently and forgot to post

Get what you mean @leplubodeslapin, I haven't played any AC after the first so can't say but I don't have to try hard to imagine... and I think what you say just compliments and demonstrates my point: these are games for kids. Younger kids probably need to be beaten on the head with this information to A) make them understand it was a good investment buying the game B) to make them feel like the game is even longer (it is my impression that when you branch out immediately, you feel like you're playing more than you actually do).

    In sorta related news:

  • How does Valve get func_ladders to work in their maps?

I don't have any tool brush, as the tutorial I picked was showing to use the point entities.

I did start with a tool brush and when I tried to turn into a func_ladder, like in HL1 times, but that func wasn't coming up so I looked for tutorials.

Don't they use ladder props these days? Eg cs_assault

in the HL2 map I've started I used the entity (start-end ladder point entity + dismounts) and worked at first couple compiles… then without changing anything, became non-climbable! >:(

Haven't read any. Seeing the scores on the lower side I thought they were probably complaining about the limited content available at lunch.

Personally I'm ok with episodic, but I think first release should have 3 missions. Is not like people want to immediately try to beat a map in every way possible.

If I think that soon won't be able to binge…

    Quote from leplubodeslapin

They try to make people think their games are deep and that it will take you ages to finish them. Indeed it takes ages, but what's long is definitely not the funny part.

no that's not the point; Jade Raymond in a panel on GTTV couple years ago basically explained that to sell at full price you need a certain amount of content (read: play hours) so that's what they do. Then you have the trail of DLC to prevent the bleeding caused by used games market.

This problem has been caused by gamers that kept asking "how long is the game". I mean, they are teenagers, I kinda understand why that's their concern, they don't have the experience/culture to make a distinction and demand for quality, they want time sinkers.

So I don't hold it against Ubisoft for doing this bloated and repetitive games: they are catering to their audience. I don't think that the target they have in mind for AC is us, the 25 year older.

Also it's not just them, any MMO is a time sinking repetitive pile of crap.

another video on this channel the other day was reminding that just after GDC there will be another EGX Rezzed in London, which will be the last venue for VR PR for Valve, they should have sets to try their tech. I bet the queue will be long! (I waited almost an hour to get decent seats for Chet's talk last year).

    EGX will run 7-9 april.

So even if I knew I wouldn't make the Run Think Shoot Live deadline for the current contest, I spent a few hours this weekend to see if I would make it in time to submit at least a very rough version with gameplay set in. Didn't make it, but I like the idea I had for the progression in the map, so will try to complete it in the next weeks waiting for the next challenge.

I have no hope to see them changing the formula @FMPONE. The game is targeted at teenagers really. I remember the comment of a much younger basketball mate a few years back: "oh Assassin's Creed is too cool, you kill everyone!!" -____-'

I just wonder if they'll start having slightly darker and more serious chapters as they're fan base grows older (like we have seen happening with super heroes movies/games).

Any case, I think from the story part is so fucked up that I don't think I would ever want to get a game of these again.

Congrats @Beck, looks great! I'm happy for Rebellion, it's good to see that a game like this is managing to keep (and grow) it's fan base.

Jealous, I can only dream of working on a WW2 game set in my home country!

I only tried a demo for V1 I think, was on X360. Didn't convince me completely but I've always been interested. I have had V3 in my wish list for a while, but have such a back catalog that when was on sale I couldn't justify getting it. I'm still planning to give it a go.
