So, maps in Overwatch are first blocked out in Sketchup?

Really like the big outside view (from spawn point?) in first shit, but like highlighted by someone already, I find the graffiti and general dirty look contrasting too much with the modern architecture… looks like the Ts have not only kidnapped these people but held them captive for months. If this is an hideout the location is wrong, even if it was generally rundown.

I would either go with a (now) classic modern-clean look, or a construction site theme, like the rich couple building the place have been kidnapped while being shown the latest additions from the head of project

Romero has moved to Ireland some months ago, like just after summer.

He has setup a new company from what I understand, some consultancy for new devs and producing mobile games. I might be wrong, or that might already be old news.

When I read the URL I thought they were talking about John Carmack.

Cheeky that the campaign starts even before they have anything to show; concept seems very back to basic, old school pretestuos narrative to justify such big changes.

Haven't really seen something satisfying from those that until now have claimed to be deceloping "back to basics" old school FPS games, so curious to see if they get anywhere.

Never seen any trailer or any marketing until I've been linked this "top kills" video yesterday.

This looks very good. Is the layout already pretty final? You've detailed quite a lot.

Holding on specific comments for when you consolidate a bit more.

ps: some steps seem bit too tall

*sigh* have basically the same idea for a map (more like the name I'd use)… I really like that these companies have modern, clean and colourful hq

Saw it's available on Netflix/Prime, put it on my watchlist straight away, might prioritise it :) haven't watched this kind of movie in a while

Finally caught up with Fear The Walking Dead now that's on Prime.

Honest enough, interested to see what they do different. The military that left the girl instead of kidnapping her for raping is far fetched i think.

How many of you think that the black gambler guy is inspired by L4D2??

@Sprony how much the basic layout can change from first deadline through the second phase? (Assuming to get through)

Havent had time to try anything until now, will try to get something down during this week.

Yes I am... well it's rhetorical. But 40$ for a buggy tech demo is an insult on top of a plain rip off.

I find it pretty awesome. It's at least funny, but highlights that people are paying 800$ to replicate the same mini-games of the Wii or Kinect. But at least Nintendo's and MS' products weren't dangerous for the person and the hardware.

Curious coincidence, I picked up Gunman when I recently went home visit parents… I never finished that game because at the time the computer blew up.

Unfortunately I don't have the skills to apply right now, but I'm curious how it is to leave there, is it a problem with the language?

You mean to do smalle rooms @2d-chris? Or to hollow stuff using subtractive brushes?

Never actually made anything in unreal yet, always wondered how it would be to get into the subtractive thing. Tutorials that I've seen haven't turned my world around, seem to suggest just to carve the space you need for an area and then build in the classic quake/HL style. Except for carving windows with subtractive brushes.

Checked the comparison, a legitimate upgrade I say. Maybe slightly too strong post process/color correction (in the day version)?

night version is really dark… how does it work in this game, people have to shoot flares up?

*experience the freedom not yet without boundaries.

I insist on the cable untangle system from above.

Also agree that pretty much everything looks like a wii game.

Are they seriously charging that much for tech demos that don't even work perfectly?

I remember DaveJ writing on his blog that something that helped with mapper's block was to start a side project with completely different theme, ie: sci-fi sp map when stuck on a CS map.

    You could try that.

Or just take a break. If you are similar to me on mentality, it might be that you know you have to study something to progress, but you don't want to get outside your comfort zone. We talking art so I'd speculate that you can't be bothered going deep into 3DSMax and the likes.

Ankther good thing would be to get an artist help you out, he could very likely have a fresh take that will inspire you. And if he works on props than you can focus on gameplay and building, which, unless you need/want to learn, is probably what you like. Maybe even go back to a more blocky/non-textured version and get a concept artist to paint over some concept to feed your imagination with a new art direction?

Dunno how feasible it is but might as well try if you're taking a break anyway.
