Christs, no haven't heard anything of that. That's tragic. And scary.

So through a tweet from Laidlaw and Valve Time I just discovered Guthrie left Valve.

Then stumbled on their comprehensive list of notable departures and found out that Wolpaw (Portal writer) and Chet (L4D, VR) have left?!?! ?

Ah, thanks for the info. I always heard people saying the M1 would ping to prompt reload and that wasn't possible/very inconvenient to reload before using all ammo.

I thought there might be something but the general feeling is that they are mixing weapons from different scenarios or time in the conflict. Always heard the tommygun had the large mag on the Pacific front…

Personally I don't see anything upsetting regarding gender equality, I don't think Soret wrote anything offensive in the past that justifies people going after him today.

This Zoe Quinn looks to me like the guy that was standing under the supermarket sign hoping it would fall on him to sue

holo on the BAR?!?! Hope there's not too crazy stuff, already was noticeable the chance of reloading the Garand whenever you want…

other than that I appreciate the flow of movement, the way it seems possible to go from running to prone etc

Well @D3ads, in the video he takes the mask off when he gets out of the tunnel, so I think that means the air cleared up and there won't be that restriction anymore.

The lighting and colours suggest that as well.

If I recall that limitation wasn't because of the story but also due to technical difficulties as the engine was pushed to render as much as possible inside areas

I dunno if I'm misunderstanding what you guys saying, but I don't think that setting it in the less populated state is to be less offensive, simply makes more sense? I mean I imagine the thought process being "if this was set just outside a major city National Guard would be there in no time, but since is less populated there's the chance/excuse of communication breakdown and people not being able to inform there's a maniac lining everyone up".

Also rural country has people with more religion beliefs, there are more quirky characters, people do actually own a boat or plane and workshops that would allow customisation.

How would it be believable for a guy with a "family operation" to take over an area populated by tens of his men? How would you even technically render it, if you had crowds?

Of course the bad guy is somewhat flashy and hipster, to make it appealing to the young audience who's actually the main audience.

Well the proper mp footage from this map seemed quite boring, with that assault of the house over and over…

but at least seems a round goes quite quickly.

I wouldn't see it necessarily as a critique of the real world, but I dunno if the devs said anything. Is not like The Following (TV show) wanted to say anything about cultism (I think).

I mean these cult stuff are plainly "cool" and we didn't have comparable portrayals in games, nothing that felt this grounded at least.

Ps: some NPC interactions in the gameplay reminded me straight away of some The Walking Dead scenes, I bet that was a reference too.

Oh this is the one I watched! I thought was the extract from the presentation... didn't watch the keynote cos they had technical issues and all games had the audio fucked up so I gave up after trying three different streams.

Ehrm @DrywallDreams since when the matrix has been seen as an allegory for transgenderism now?? I actually didn't know they changed sex until I read your post. Honestly and with all due respect, such a statement sounds like bs to me... unless they said something about it. Now I understand, though, why (the terrible) Sense8 was so sex-thematics-loaded: it felt like a gay politics advert.

I think you are stretching the cyberpunk definition a bit, but I guess I understand what you mean as in most cases cyberpunk stories are about rebelling to a totalitarian environment.

Regarding the gamergate issue, it might be that in UK didn't blow up as much, i dont know, keep in mind I'm not a game developer and I don't watch the news. My understanding was "lady Dev gives sex for favourable review" and all that followed just massive attempt to distract from that issue. I just quickly read the wikis and see it wasn't the case.

I always defined myself as feminist and pro-gender equality, but I can't really align myself with the extremes things have been taken in the recent years. Staying on game topics: you want better portrayal of women? Get the fuck off your ass and twitter, and make the games yourself and write the stories that deserve to be written. You can't force input equality in the creative process as a company policy. We outta strive creating fiction that appeals to other sex and race, but you can't stigmatise someone who wants to create a character with big bobs or whatever.

I'm very much in line with what @[HP] wrote and I think the possibilities of what can happen are scary. I would say beware! Beware supporting the kinds of the Quinns, because yes the harassment she suffered was terrible, but it seems it turned her into an harasser. Digging up in everybody's past or keeping a blacklist of people to smear as soon as they get some deserved attention is harassment. Behaviour like this, which really seems like what's going on with The Last Night, suggest that the moment you say something they don't like --even unrelated to the cause-- you'll be marked for life, no matter if you have been supporting them throughout.

    Hope it makes sense.

Who has time for that? I haven't played CS in ages, even if I could play sort of regularly I wouldn't want to waste my time scavenging for a good deal.

Plus, except the knives and gloves I find CSGO weapons and animations plain ugly, with very few exceptions; I particularly hate the nades. What is valve doing with all this money?

@laminutederire I play so little games in general that I rather play than watch. Only reason I watched a couple matches when I found the re-airs on YT is trying to see what pros do to learn what they need in terms of mapping.

Well this is… awkward. What you say is 180° degrees different from my understanding of what happened.

It is my understanding that most people think that the woman is the one that has been unethical, so I would have thought that yes, associating with the other side would benefit the marketing.

Look I don't really have the elements to comment, when this whole thing blew up seemed a giant waste of time to follow, so I only read a couple blurbs when the thing was winding down… and this video now so maybe my perception is biased.

Regarding the devs, I dunno what they wrote or written in the (recent) past but like I reported, the director publicly apologised for past tweets and the explanation of the background of the world has nothing to do with feminism, talks about machines (AI) being superior to humans:

I honestly don't want to waste my time digging up whatever, seems like this guy tweeted waaay back aligning himself against this woman at the centre of the gamer gate, and now -in unsuspected times- because the game is gathering a lot of attention she popped back up to deviate the attention to hurt what seems a damn good creative team.

Uh? I don't understand this as that guy doesn't say that at all in his video, he's condemning the woman tout-court so

The director of the game when he went on the Intel/pcgamer stage seemed apologetic and explained the background to the game quite differently from it "being a world where feminists won" or whatever.

So from what I understand, and until it's more clear what the game is about, I stand by my belief that was a smart PR stunt to get noticed.
