  • Humble Bundle bought by IGN

News from yesterday: Humble Bundle has been snapped by IGN.

Of course they promise business as usual, but will be interesting what they’ll do to increase business, if this will affect developers.

Also, considering HB has branched in publishing, what about conflict of interest since they shall review their own games?

    This one a bit better.

i don’t understand why they insist doing those crazy stunts in slow motion that clearly look super fake (jump from the car and flipping in the air) I can’t see anybody getting excited anymore with these (was already sucky in Matrix)

So I guess if you had it in a skybox of a map that goes in an operation you should redo it?

    Awesome @Corvus, this looks awesome.

I think this would look totally legit for a skybox, otherwise great base to start I guess, or use for platforms like mobile where you want less heavy textures?

Also is this actually usable, I mean does it break any EULA from google?

I remember finding that as well in the past couple years when I was reading his stuff and watching some of his videos. I might have even attempted starting the challenge but clearly didn't get far :/

Also, starting Steam now to download the map and have a run around :)

    Looks amazing of course.

Is there a demo coming out or of the original?

Like I said on Twitter, I love the skybox. Would love to see the map fully dressed: its quite original setting I think. Only thing seems a bit flat in terms of height variation, might be a very flat city but think CS maps need some (and luckily they don’t need extreme variation).

Maybe you want to first play test to see how much you want to invest on it? (Have you had time to play test over the challenge time span?)

Well it's still very rough state I take, so I wouldn't make it a crux. As long as you are aware and plan to revisit the choice, should be fine, although I'm not sure if it helps in testing as metal has quite a distinctive sound?

As a rule of thumb that metal is used for catwalks or narrow sections of floors, to cover a hollow area that hosts cabling/piping. You would want to alternate with grates to show such details as well. Being a non-slippery surface, it wouldn't go up to an edge.

But the danger trim you are using is incorrect, the way you are using it is meaningless, doesn't bring attention to anything. Those trims are to be used to highlight height differences (steps) or lower overheads. Eventually an area of maneuver for big machinery.

Well the first walkthrough I found today by some guys was a continuous “oh wtf” “oh what the shit this is shit” cos couple corners are changed? ?

Nading A-long will take adjustment, the building is much taller now.

Spotted couple more differences in crates, A-connector crate is wider and lower, lower the one on A-ramp looks like, and taller? the one in mid (or at least removed the pro-jump).

Personally I like much more B side of the map, visually speaking.

I still don’t understand if the major are organised directly by Valve or if they just put money in it. Who’s deciding the dates?

Valve doesn’t seem to have the structure to organise these, so if they are asking a company to organise must be a big entity that organised other tournaments?

I might be explaining the obvious here though.

I’m not sure, I mean it’s pretty clear they “feel”. That’s not what I’m bothered with the storytelling.

I was dwelling more, and realised that there is that moment when the “head of resistance” talks with pity to K. Basically the writer makes fun of the spectator for falling for their red herring :/

I have a bit more to criticise: the other big thing that is lacking here is setting up the scene.

Like mentioned in a post above “the new Tyrell” is a bit of a faceless guy, I mean there’s no depth to it… I can’t even remember his name other than it starts with “W” (also if you have to watch a short to understand who he is – it’s bad).

Most importantly, in Blade Runner there was quite a lot going on, there was culture of 2019 explained, 2049 is lacking all this background depth. Think of the scenes at the market/sushi bar, the strip club… the new movie it’s basically visual porn. Yes incredibly truthful to the original, but very superficial. Imo.

I often feel it would be great to have a digital pinboard where to throw picture and notes that are also visually connected… like a mind map.
