I love the damage indicator down the bottom left. Ripped right from Destruction Derby but damn it brings back some good memories from the PS1 days! Think I'm going to pick this up since it looks like it'd be good fun with friends

Yeah I've noticed that. I mean, surely CoD: WaW doesn't sell that many copies these days? Wouldn't it be better to stick it on some ridiculous sale and sell more copies and get some cash in then not drop the price and sell none or a few copies?

I guess they feel it "cheapens" the franchise?

In the mod walking toward any door, rock, stair, ladder, or props was a way to die. I didn't experienced any death like that in the SA.

I mostly agree with this statement. I can actually walk on rock formations now and doors just push you out of the way when they open instead of breaking your leg.

However, I was on the top floor of a school today and some guys were below me. Me and my friends killed a few but one guy ran into the building. I ran inside to cover the stairs and as I was looking over the wall I somehow lagged or glitched through it and fell to my death three floors below.

Yeah the collisions on the player aren't great. But to be fair I've had a better experience with doors in the SA. You can strafe through them now and I generally only get stuck if I come at a door from a weird angle. But like you say, doors shouldn't be a problem.

So I was playing this for a few hours last night.

It's largely exactly the same as the mod in my opinion. There are some improvements that justify the purchase for me though.

    • The crashing is a lot better as I haven't crashed once yet after a good 4-5 hours of play.
    • Connection issues are mostly gone, didn't see any lag and didn't get any disconnects or have trouble connecting to servers as I often did in the mod.
    • More buildings can be entered than in the mod and there seems to be more loot to be found, with more variety.
    • More items in the game with more options how to use them such as tearing a shirt in to rags to be used as bandages.

At present there doesn't seem to be many zombies at all in the game, I only saw 4 but wasn't really exploring towns much. It's still impossible to find your friends, I couldn't find 3 of mine the entire time we were playing, I did find other players though.

I wouldn't recommend people to buy it if they already have the mod, but I don't regret buying it as I much prefer to have it on steam and not suffer the connection issues. I was expecting more really, but we'll see how this goes.

Apparently the zeds are spawning below the floor. You probably heard them but obviously they can't get to you at the moment. I heard zeds quite often but if you jog in a straight line you can outrun them.

Also, once you know the map you can meet up with friends really easily. Me and my friends generally get together within half an hour (depending on how far away we spawn from each other). (learn2mapread )

In response to question about melee weapons and how smooth the game is :

Looks like people are still going to disconnect if they think they're going to lose their stuff. So annoying.

But yeah, melee weapons are a bit hit and miss in this engine. Originally there was no support for melee weapons in the original engine.

I played for about 2 hours or so without a single crash. The game felt stable and smooth to me.

As I said I only encountered a few zombies and it was dark so I might have missed some. I killed two with my hatchet and the experience I had with the zombies wasn't really any different to the mod. I did see a zombie half poking through a wall, tried to kill it but nothing happened.

As far as I know every house is enterable. At least every one I went to was. There are some new areas (Some large housing blocks just north of the airstrip) and I saw a players torch working it's way up the tower. I'm guessing but you may be able to get to every floor in that building!

Just had a spin on it. None of the servers have had their day/night cycles shifted yet (as far as I can see) so you're probably going to be playing in the dark on a local server.

Movement is a big improvement over the mod.

You actually have to search for items in buildings now which is cool and very hard to do in the dark.

Loot does seem scarce at the moment though.

Inventory is a big improvement also, though I did drop a torch and lost it on the floor when changing to some cargo pants (Which had more pockets than my jeans. Nice addition)

Found an axe and killed a couple of zombies which found me. I don't really see any improvement over the hit detection and zombie movement as people have mentioned above.

There aren't many zombies at the moment. My guess is they're keeping the population low until they get feedback on how the zombies are.

I've had a new graphics card since I last played the mod so I can't really talk about improvements but for me on a Intel 2600K @ 4.4GHz, 8 GB ram, AMD 7970 3GB and an SSD it ran damn smooth on all max settings

    Hope this helps.

    Any questions just ask!

I was on holiday when news of this being fake broke out. I was sad for a moment then had another 8 beers and was happy again.

I am tempted to go back to BF3 right now. The maps were better and I felt the gun play and vehicles were better too.

It is sad since like you I have enjoyed each of the new Battlefields more and more as new instalments came out, but BF4 is the first one were I've thought... meh.

when i read this, you feel just like me when i've started playing BF4, but after some time you will start to like BF4 - the way it's play ect. this installment is more infantry based IMO, vehicles are very easy to take down and there is loads of small tweaks that you can or can't like

I have played for quite a while though. I'm at like rank 50 and I still get frustrated with the maps sometimes. Like I say I do enjoy 4 or 5 of the maps but the rest usually end up with me leaving to find another server. With BF3 that never happened, I could sit on a server and happily play all day.

I will agree that land based vehicles are easier to take down now, but when some maps have 4 tanks at spawn it kind of negates that fact.

I'll probably stick with it since I'e paid so much for it, all my friends are playing it and I like the look of the Second Assault maps.

I finally picked up BF4 last week. All this week, I I tried giving the game (MP) a chance, but as of tonight I went back to BF3. I'm sorry but 4 is an abortion of 3, I never thought I would say this, since every BF installment has delighted me up until 4. Now after playing multiple hours of BF3 , everything other than a handful of cool additions plays and feels better in 3 in my opinion. I don't understand why the game was changed so much. BF3 was so solid. Maybe I'm a bit butt-hurt I wasn't expecting such a drastic change and performance hit.

Just tried Silk Road which is pretty much pointless if you're infantry.

Played a bit of Altai Range and that was ok so long as you stayed around the capture points as infantry and only moved between them if you knew it was safe. Snipers, tanks and little birds are having a blast with this!

Don't really want to judge them on 20 mins play time on each but it's kind of a bad first impression...
