I agree with all the things you wrote, except I had to turn off the music because for the first time in my life I see a game that has not separate volumes for music and effects [Blocked Image: http://multiplayer.it/forum/images/faccine/face4.gif]

At the point I am right now in the story, can't say much about characters, I think Vaas had(?) the potential to be "character of the year" but a sandbox gameplay hurts narration and the performance gets lost.

Oh, and the notification pop-ups have driven me crazy for too many hours, really too intrusive, everything you do/find pops up something. Annoying to say the least.

It certainly isn't flawless. Especially the intrusive part. I turned my sound of on multiple occasions because the same guy from the same mission with the same story kept calling every fucking time I did something else in between. Drove me nuts.

It's going to be epic. Plus, much love to Sony. A couple of months ago I got an e-mail basically saying: "Dude, we see you love GoW, here's access to the MP, give us feedback". Yeah, Sony, you'll be getting my money for sure because it's nice to be appreciated and play an awesome game

So I finished Far Cry 3. Can't remember how much I praised it already but here we go (again). Lovely gun play, freedom, memorable characters, great music, freedom, tons of stuff to do, lots of crazy stuff and missions, very memorable missions as well, freedom and after 31 hours of play, I'm still sad it ended. More of this please! For me, by far, the best shooter I've played in years.

Just finished Darksiders on the PS3. I still cannot grasp why nobody picked up the license. Sure, the game is a bit rough around the edges but I had a blast playing it. Bought it for 17 euro and had 23 hours of fun. Money well spent!

I second that. I had no beef with Starcraft 2's story. In fact, it's one of the things that attracted me to the game. Diablo 3 however, don't get me started. So no, a comparison is unfair.

  • The worst game mechanics?

    Sprony, that's not a mechanic, that's a performance thing.

I'm also not a fan of QTE's, at least when they are not done right, for example, AC3 and The force Unleashed games.

Unskippable intro tutorials can be annoying too, I hate em, but they are needed most of the time. I've done a bunch of work to try and make this stuff clear but more systemic. New players really suck at learning game mechanics. Its hilarious how hard it is to even get a player to learn how to take cover for example.

Just because it has to do with performance doesn't mean it's not an mechanic. There are more examples in which both are effected like the locking of doors behind you.

Perhaps I'm just old school but I really hate that all the corpses magically disappear in most modern games. I like to have a moment and look back to carnage I caused.

My last preorder was Aliens:Colonial Marines so perhaps that's a bad reference point. But the last couple of years there has been a lot of focus on preorders and preorder rewards. I've done this three times and all of them were very disappointing.

I'm not going to fall for this crap again. Regardless of how long they withhold reviews or how many rewards and discounts they give me, I'm not buying it. I'll listen to the opinions of people and from sources I trust, I'll play demo's or beta's or I'll test it at a friend but I'm going to make damn sure that I know what I'm buying.

The only exception being Kickstarter. I'll gladly pay money to get stuff made that I really want to play.

I bought Impire based on the first 40 minutes of gameplay.

It's really enjoyable, well worth 20 buckaroos!

What makes it enjoyable for you Rick? I'd really like to know. I see lots of complaining about the ladders and building options. It would be nice to hear about the positive things as well.

What was it supposed to do? Some great art and neat effects, but uninspired storytelling, bland cutscenes, awful combat and AI, and "epic events" that are jaw achingly dull.

I feel like video games are being let down by story and design at this point - we've spent so much time pushing the graphical fidelity that gameplay and narrative have been neglected, and it's really starting to show. More explosions doesn't mean more intense or exciting. Been watching the first season of 24 again, and the drama they manage to get across in very few locations and zero explosions puts videogames to shame.

Fair enough and I'm certainly with you regarding game play and narrative. But that's not something I expect from Killzone. I guess I'm still not suffering from explosion fatique. Which doesn't mean I like every COD clone out there and I do appreciate great story and game play. Perhaps, you all being (aspiring) developers influences your perception of these things? You all certainly have a much wider understanding of how it works what's going on and I'm still more on the "look how pretty this explodes" level.

Regardless, I can appreciate the discussion this thread manages to provoke

I think it has to do with what you are expecting. For me, the PS4 isn't that interesting. But I want Killzone, Uncharted, God of War, etc so I will buy it regardless.

The first Killzone was a horrible game. The second was great and the third was average. I'm not going in expecting the new pinnacle in gaming. I just want to enjoy the art and shoot stuff and it does play differently from COD.That's enough for me.

Looking back, I should have phrased myself better in the opening post. I should have said I would have bought the PS4 anyway but since Killzone is in the lineup, I now have an incentive to buy it at launch.

It has been posted in the PS4 thread but I think it's worthy of it's own topic. For some another generic FPS but for me the reason to buy the new PS4. Besides, I really like Killzone's art style.

I'm currently playing Company of Heroes (2006) and much enjoying it! Definitely one of the better games from my pile of "oh this game is not super recent but everyone says it is an absolute must to play it".

I think this is the best RTS ever made and I played most of them

I'm still playing Far Cry 3. I think I've put in 30 hours or so and I'm still not done. It just doesn't get boring. I've now taken over all the outposts. Almost done with all the hunter and wanted missions. Did a bunch of delivery missions. Plus, all the random quests and the Challenges are great fun too. There's just so much to do with so much freedom. I'm fucking loving this game. Never thought I would say this, but I want DLC!
