I think there is going to be other wildlife which will be a threat to the player. Hopefully that will keep players distracted and the monster can use it to his advantage.

Read about this in the latest issue of Gameplay. There will be wildlife that can become hostile or are already hostile from the start. Monsters can use this to their advantage.

I got my eyes on this one.

A mix between Zelda, Dark Souls and Darksiders and made by a team that's led by former The Witcher 2 producer Tomasz Gop.

Well, some time has passed and things have improved dramatically for me. I went beyond acceptance and decided to forgive my work nemesis and have a good heart to heart with him. Me doing that changed his attitude a lot and me not being mad anymore improved the overall work environment. Don't get me wrong, they are still fuck ups and cheats, it just doesn't upset me anymore. Not being mad at my nemesis and forgiving all his faults was such a relief. I'm not one for religion but the whole forgiving thing certainly has a lot of perks. It feels so weird though. You've been mad for so long and like that, with a snip of the fingers, all that baggage is gone by something so simple as accepting and forgiving. There's real power in that.

So far his comeback has not disappointed me. I expected The Last Stand to be horrible but in fact it was funny and entertaining. Escape Plan was also not what I expected and it was a very amusing flick. So I hope this trend continues.

Yeah, sell that KZ game lol

I played it for a couple of hours and started to worry that I had become retarded. I was stuck, didn't know what to do and the game made no effort in making things clear. I'm not talking about holding hands here but the most basic message (what am I supposed to do) didn't came across. So yesterday I had a LAN and about 7 different people played it. Every one of them said the same. Where am I supposed to go? How does this work? Etc. It's beautiful but such an unclear mess of a game. Anyone else experienced that? I'm talking SP only btw.

So now I have a new system but no game to show. I've put Killzone up for sale. I'm thinking Tomb Raider or AC4. Both games have decent reviews but neither really appeal that much to me. You guys are pro AC4. Is is still as repetitive as the first? Because I quit playing that after an hour. Anyone recommend Tomb Raider?

I take it you are going to add more detail as you progress? Because some areas are a bit empty and some walls could a bit more decoration and stuff. I'm at work so I can't play. Having said that, I wonder if the shadows won't make it difficult to spot players?

I don't care if it wins 15 Oscars (not that it will), I simply refuse to watch unnecessary remakes of classics. But, I have to admit, because of all this Robocop news I watched the original (got the special edition BR with more violence) two times this week. A perfect reminder that some things will always stand the test of time. Awesome movie (the original).

AC4 is definitely way better than I would've dreamed of, after having played every single game in the series then I completely written that franchise off, but they've actually managed to make it feel really fresh. By far the PS4 game I've spent the most time on~~

Also, Outlast is out on PS Plus today (that is, free if you're a PS Plus subscriber). Started playing it on PC when it was released, but never got around to finishing it, definitely going to give it another chance here.

Great tip man. Outlast on my big screen is awesome. Killzone is also pretty.

Except that AC4 is really a PS3 game ported to PS4

So the only decent game on PS4 is in fact a PS3 game.

50% off deluxe version on Origin today. Is $35 worth it or should I keep playing BF3?

If you have a mate who has the game, ask if you could borrow his Origin login so that you can test if it runs properly on your computer. I don't know it's current state (but based on the many news item it's still not entirely fixed).

Thanks man. But those games don't interest me. I want Thief!

Nah man. It gives me something to do until Thief. Got it cheap from someone else and it's definitively worth 30 euros for the eye candy alone imo.

You know, I had given up on getting a PS4 and upgraded my PC instead (like I mentioned before). Today, out of the blue, we got a call that my PS4 had arrived. I was confused since I cancelled my preorder. But I had tried so many places that I forgot all about this one. Unfortunately I used the budget on my PC already. Luckily I'm blessed with the most awesome wife ever and now I'm looking at this:

  • What is a good, or a bad video game ?

    • Sprony
    • February 5, 2014 at 2:25 PM

As with everyone, a game has to appeal to me. That doesn't make it a good but without it I normally don't give it a chance. I've bought several unappealing titles (to me) that people were praising but most of them disappointed. Without appeal there's little chance it will work for me. This is a matter of taste and is of course different for everyone. I play all sort of games and this is a list of what makes it enjoyable for me (talking SP btw):

    • The game has to have a compelling story or at least give me enough motivation to push on.
    • It needs a to have a proper ending. I need to be rewarded for the time I put into it. The end of Fallout 3 or the none existing ending of Rage won't do. Also, weak final bosses are a no go.
    • I expect to be challenged. I expect to die several times. I expect to get stuck at certain points but....it should never be too hard or play unfair.
    • Don't kill the immersion! Huge quest signs, intrusive hints, objective markers, etc kill the experience. I'm not stupid, stop holding my hand.
    • Give me characters I can love or characters that I love to hate.
    • Diversify! Half Life 2 is a great example of this. Some puzzles, some shooting, some driving, some story, etc. Keep it fresh and interesting

    No go's:

    • The holding hand approach. Spelling everything out, complete linearity (linearity itself isn't bad), invisible walls and a complete lack of freedom. When this happens it's game over for me.
    • Bugs, instability, crashes. No matter how good the game, it's just not worth the frustration. That's why I returned Battlefield 4.
    • Sounds contradicting, but freedom is one thing, making it completely unclear to a player what to do is something else. Subtle pushes in the right direction is a must have and being stuck for hours is a no go.
    • Cheating and playing unfair to raise the difficulty is a cheap way and not fun.
    • Interface should be easy to master and quick to use.
    • Game should be complete, don't leave out stuff for the DLC.
    • No pay to win.

    That's it's for now.

  • Carmack officially leaves iD

    • Sprony
    • February 5, 2014 at 1:44 PM

This is a pretty interesting article in which Carmack talks about him leaving iD. In short, he wanted to make iD titles compatible with Oculus but Zenimax wouldn't have it and that's why he left. He strongly believes in the future of VR.

    Quote

"But they couldn't come together on that which made me really sad. It was just unfortunate," Carmack says. "When it became clear that I wasn't going to have the opportunity to do any work on VR while at id software, I decided to not renew my contract.
