Answering to the latter, Newell said the industry's move towards user-generated content has influenced the development process."The biggest improvements will be in increasing productivity of content creation," he wrote."That focus is driven by the importance we see UGC having going forward. A professional developer at Valve will put up with a lot of pain that won't work if users themselves have to create content."

Welcome. No, we don't do introduction threads here. People just start posting and those with patience will soon find a very lively and vocal community. I don't know how things are at Interlopers but at the Core there's always stuff going on. We've got regular playtests on the CSGO server, challenges, very active WIP threads, lots of game and movie news in offtopic and if you dare you could venture into Extreme offtopic.

Also be friendly to Polish crowd because they are legion. The Core is part of the British commonwealth so thread carefully when UK people talk. The rest of the Europeans stick together except for the French. They are in a league of their own. Murica is present as well, those are the Queen Bees oh and ignore everything Nexus says. Have fun!

Since this has already become quite personal I might as well see it through to the end.

Well, when it rains it pours. On the same day we got a call that my wife's uncle died. Which is a real blow to her and her family (he wasn't sick or anything). Also, she's a Hindu so burial rituals take up a lot of time. Besides that, we knew that she wouldn't get her contract extended but we finally got the official confirmation as well. So all in all, it was quite a blow. Haven't been home for most of the week (taking care of the upcoming burial and stuff). Just got back and since we were in the middle of making room for the baby I returned to a war zone.

All that scheming that you all liked so much, well that didn't turn out great either. One application got shot down Friday. My other plan of returning to my old team isn't possible as well. Long story short, everything is riding on this one application. Going to clean up the mess now, prepare for the burial this Wednesday and wait what kind of news I'll get this week. So I'm currently feeling like this:

But, got lots of stuff going on, nobody is noticing shit and that's because:

I don't understand how you got burned by Rage. That game was worth the preorder imho. But then I didn't experience the laggy-textures that a lot of people did. BF4 had a beta out so you should have seen that one coming. Colonial Marines.. what were you thinking? That reeked like a failure for so long before it was released. Are you that into the Aliens franchise?

Rage: Was supposed to ship with the editor (repeatedly said so in Interviews). I took a week of from work, made a community site (Ragemapping.com) and then the game came out. It didn't work, huge pop up issues, had to wait for a patch. Also no editor (I think they released it 2 years later). No communication, no nothing. A wasted week, a wasted website and a wasted domain.

Aliens: What I was thinking is that the E3 GAMEPLAY demo they released was REAL as advertised! If I had gotten that I would have been content. No, what I got was something completely different then advertised. It was misdirection from the start.

BF4: Surprisingly the beta run great on my system but the full game was unplayable, even when I build a new machine it was still unplayable. Don't ask me why, because I have no idea what could have changed between beta and full.

According to sigma's definition, I am very elastic . I think games are way too expensive, especially new releases that often come with bugs, or were way overhyped.

It's really rare that I buy something at release nowadays. Usually I wait until the reviews have settled, the price has dropped and the patches are out. I get to pay less for a product that's more polished, which in turn increases my enjoyment of it. Same goes for hardware, I'd rather buy last year's gadget.

Does anyone here buy special edition versions of games? I get being an early adopter, but I don't get the people who pay 3x as much for a special edition of a game. You get the same product plus some cheap extras.

I also don't understand preordering. It's not like the game will "run out" on release day. Why preorder?

Don't wanna derail the thread but i think they're relevant questions to the discussion .

No, you are not alone. I used to preorder but then I got burned 3 times in a row. First Rage, then Aliens: Colonial Marines and last time was with Battlefield 4. I'm not doing that anymore. I also don't pay full retail price. I used to do that too but your valid points aside (buggy, patches, etc) it's not worth it imo. I've still got games I've paid full retail for that I haven't played yet. Now I wait until I can get it for around 30 euros.

I've only ever bought one special edition because I too think it's useless to do so. The extra's are neglect-able, the miniatures are often bad quality and it's way overpriced. If you want art, buy the art book. More for less.

Two exceptions though. I've bought the collectors edition (and preordered) of Duke Nukem Forever. I knew it would suck but there has been so much to do around this game that I needed to have it regardless. The second one is GTA. I always preorder it, pay full retail and get it at the night launch. Ever since GTA 3.

I know this will sound sentimental as fuck but in case of console releases there's only one very simply reason for me. With age comes reason and with experience comes knowledge. As a child I was actually afraid of scary movies. I also found it very convincing that Arnold could kill 30 people without getting a scratch. But as you grow older you lose that innocence. You know it's all make believe and you understand how the world works. The above is a movie example but the same applies to games and what not.

When you make your own money, pay for your own things and you have access to a lot of stuff, the novelty of getting things is lost. When my mother bought me a game as a child I was so excited I played it for days. Now I have a huge back catalog of games (sealed and all) that I still need to play. It's not that I don't enjoy things anymore, on the contrary, it's just on a different level. So what has all of this got to do with console releases? Simple, when I buy it, unpack it and fire it up I feel like a child again. Just really enjoying every little step and be amazed by the novelty of it all.

Recently the same happened when I got my PS4. While there's still not really anything worthwhile on it and I haven't turned it on for over a week, I can still stare at it and feel instant joy knowing it will bring me a huge amount of pleasure in the years to come. This makes it all worthwhile.

Let me write this down before I'm wasted:

My department got closed down and all of us are fired from our current positions. We're not completely fired though because they demoted us back to Customer Service (where I started 8 years ago) and we get to keep our current salary. Unfortunately, Customer Service in my region is due for closure as well (no timeline indicated but probably this year). So let's just say they intent to fire me somewhere this year.

    My initial reaction was like:

    [Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/SqsEYxj.gif]

    Then I decided:

    [Blocked Image: http://media.giphy.com/media/eSlPcitchA0Cs/giphy.gif]

    Ending it in:

All of a sudden I realized that by posting personal stuff here, I've learned a great deal about acceptance, forgiveness and having faith.

    [Blocked Image: http://media.giphy.com/media/7nfYQYbqxOao8/giphy.gif]

So instead of going all crazy I remained cool and polite. Told them I understood (which wasn't a lie since my department has performed terribly). They were pleasantly surprised because I'm the only one that reacted that way. I offered my help and we discussed my options for possible other positions. I formed a plan and immediately started networking. This has resulted in me applying for two different positions within hours of the news. My manager came up to me and said:"Everybody is living in the past and complaining about things that are history. You are the only one looking at the future and moving forward". So I was like:

Out of nowhere old managers and colleagues were starting to shower me with support and offered help. Apparently I'm not such an dick after all:

Battle plans were formed and while the rest of the team is doing this:

Yeah, looks nice. Inspired by the Total Recall remake?

The visor seems to be a little to low, could also be the use of colors that makes it look so.
