It's good you realize that you're in a bad situation and that you're taking steps to move out. I do want to leave you with one piece of advice. Let the past be the past. This advice might not even apply to you. However, I've seen too many people that realize something, start digging and go down hill from there. Now I'm not saying you should ignore your problems. But if they're oblivious for you and you already have enough incentive to change your life (based on how you're treated), just let it go. In some cases, ignorance is truly bliss.

I never pictured you as a teacher. But I get where you're coming from. That's my biggest fear, ruining my daughter. Because you're spot on regarding kids these days. It's ridiculous. Also the whole attitude towards upbringing pisses me off. Parents and teachers can't do shit anymore. We're raising lazy, fat and weak children. I'm not saying you should abuse your child but they have to know there are consequences. I only got hit a couple of times by my parents but oh boy did I deserve each and everyone of them.

The same goes with respect. It might seem trivial to some but for instance, I was at a family gathering. New people were coming in so they go around and greet people by shaking there hands. Multiple people (not only kids) didn't even have the goddamn courtesy to stand up when someone wants to shake their hand.

Last but not least, the lack of discipline. Give me money for that, I want this now, I want...I want... You get the point. You want something, you work for it. Can't work yet? Safe your allowance. Want more allowance, help around the house. Nothing is free in this world and the sooner kids learn that, the better. Sometimes I'm eating with friends and there kids don't eat this or that. No, they get a separate meal of what they want to eat. WTF? When I didn't want my vegetables, I didn't get any food until I ate it. It's so simple. Parents getting bossed around.

Nah, we're gonna do it different. I will go to the end of the world for my daughter but she will learn respect, hard work and discipline. One way or the other. Also, she isn't even born yet and the media already tries to tell you what you're child can and cannot see or do. They want to shelter them from everything and make them completely oblivious to anything. Sorry media, we'll decide whether or not our daughter is ready to see some a certain movie, wear make up, go out, etc.

    Sorry, rant over

I finally got around to watching Stand Up Guys with Al Pacino and Christopher Walken. Two of the greatest actors ever. At first I didn't know what to expect. It started kinda slow but as things progressed it got better and better. Solid performances all round and a very enjoyable movie overall. It's says it's a crime comedy and although there are more then a few laughs, I would sooner label it a crime drama. They both still got it

  • Big Budget Games - Input needed

    • Sprony
    • May 7, 2014 at 6:21 AM

    Hello guys,

Yesterday it was reported that Activision is spending 500 million on the development and promotion of Destiny. The discussion here was very interesting and I think it's a topic, for me personally, that's worth exploring. However, I need industry pro's for that. I will not exclude anyone from sharing their views, in fact, I encourage it. But, I would like to hear from insiders how they feel about big teams/huge budgets and what this means for the industry.

Even though I'll use Google to find relevant articles feel free to mention them here as well or share whatever else you feel is relevant.

I appreciated all input and be aware that this topic will probably be used for a future article (if it's deemed good and relevant enough).Last but not least, for the insiders that would like to share but not do this publicly, feel free to PM me instead.

    Thanks!

What the article doesn't mention is that Bungie signed an exclusive contract for 10 years. Destiny is build from the ground up as a franchise. The contract also states they have to ship a sequel every 2 years or so (or perhaps a huge update or something similar). It also comes to wide variety of platforms and has the potential to generate billions in the years to come. So it seems like a solid investment to me. Just look at how much COD makes.

Having said that, these kinds of budgets and teams are of course ludicrous.

The Facebook-owned VR firm sent out a brief update to the media on Monday, saying "we are disappointed but not surprised by Zenimax's actions and we will prove that all of its claims are false."Zenimax claimed that Oculus CTO John Carmack stole Zenimax property to use on the Rift while he was still employed at Id Software. The source code for Oculus Rift is fully available online, Oculus noted, but Zenimax has yet to specifically identify any stolen code or technology. Carmack himself claimed that "Oculus uses zero lines of code that I wrote while under contract to Zenimax."

While Zenimax claims that Oculus founder Palmer Luckey "acknowledged in writing Zenimax's legal ownership of this intellectual property", Oculus shot back that "Zenimax has misstated the purposes and language of the Zenimax non-disclosure agreement that Palmer Luckey signed".Oculus added that Carmack left Id in large part because owner Zenimax prevented him from working on virtual reality projects. Zenimax canceled plans for VR support in Doom 3 BFG Edition when Oculus refused to give Zenimax a non-dilutable equity stake in the company, Oculus claimed.

Oculus also noted the timing of Zenimax's legal attack, a little over a month since Facebook acquired the company for $2 billion: "Zenimax did not pursue claims against Oculus for IP or technology, Zenimax has never contributed any IP or technology to Oculus, and only after the Facebook deal was announced has Zenimax now made these claims through its lawyers."

You know what would be fun? You are Geralt of Rivia, famous Witcher. A town calls upon your services. A nearby cave has been occupied by a vile beast called Hurg. It spawns evil Hurglings that eat the villagers. You need to stop it, for a price of course

I agree that new, cutting edge engine almost inevitably means a bad competitive experience, but who knows what we're in store for here. They might go TF2 style and really nerf the graphics so people can actually... play the game (I'm looking at you, UT3)

Please no cartoon graphics and no realism either! I want crazy shit. Demons, hellspawn, cyborgs, mutants, space marines, etc, You know, the good stuff.

    Enlightment

Listen to Bunglo Dux (or anyone else). This is the key to fighting depression. You have to know, realize and accept the fact that your mind is out to talk you down. That's basically what the disease (regardless of the variation) comes down to. Your head messes with you and tries to convince you that you're ugly, worthless, etc. Always monitor this. You have to become aware when your mind starts messing with you. With practice, you'll start to pick up on this. It won't make you feel better but at least you know it's bullshit. The real danger is going a long with those thoughts.

When the above comes more natural to you it also becomes easier for you to ignore it. Yes, you'll keep struggling with it but you won't get carried away. As a movie geek, I always like to use movie examples. In this case "A Beautiful Mind" with Russel Crowe. In the movie he decides not to take his medicine which means he'll continue to see people who aren't actually there. He simply chooses to ignore them. There's a powerful lesson in that and it's exactly what Bunglo is referring to.

Let me close with an example of how much a depression likes to mess with you. My wife and I tried for over 2 years to get a child. When it finally worked we're overjoyed but a couple of days later I was really depressed (welcome to the world of a manic). My head started to talk to me:"You see, you don't want a child because why aren't you happy?", "You're a bad dad because this is not what good dads do", "You don't love her, maybe you shouldn't be with your wife if you can't rejoice in having a child together". Untrained, one could get carried away with that and suffer the consequences. Trained however, you notice it and you realize it's that time again. Then you simply ignore it. The longer you ignore it the weaker it gets. Also hold on to reality. I knew the example above was bullshit because I love my wife and we've been through hell to get a child. Knowing that and hanging on to that makes the ignoring part easier.

Yesterday i decided to finally play and finish Shadow Fall, and man this is not that bad game, BUT

level design is fucked up every 5 min I have no idea where to go, but not in that good exploring sense. Mess (in that bad sense of design) is every where, lens flares are fucking hurting my eyes, and the mission design is trying to have some variations but shiet there are many times that I have no clue what to do, like I'm now in space

It looks preety, but damn this is Ps4 and it have low res, LOW RES !!!! WTF ? not AA, again what da fuck !

    I'm in chapter/mission or what ever 5

Can't remember if I posted this already but yes, mission design is a mess. I had a LAN party, about 8 friends played it in turns and each and every one complained about the same thing: What the fuck am I supposed to do? Where do I need to go? Which was a relieve since I was worried about me being the only one not getting it. Story, dialog (guy gets stabbed by a knife which makes Rambo's knife look like a pocket knife, doesn't mention a thing, gets up and goes hang on an chopper) are all pretty lame. However, gun play is satisfying and it does look pretty. Some cool stuff and gadgets as well. I give it a 6.5.

Also, keep pressing the up cursor, it shows your objective as an orange ball. Really helpful.

Forgot to mention, go watch "Yes Man" with Jim Carrey. Even if you don't like the guy, there's still a lesson in that movie. Sure it makes a bit of fun with it but trust me, it's an eye opener. I'm not messing with you guys either. Whenever I'm really really down I put this on or Rocky Balboa

I think if you treat is as a niche - meaning don't invest insane AAA money into it, yes it could work. If any game can bring it back UT can, at least people will be willing to give it a chance. If you don't spend money on too much story shizzle, cinematic, facial rigs and all that stuff UT can be quite cheap to make relatively speaking, it's all about how much fluff you add, costs can go insane.

Yeah, you put it very eloquently on the previous page. I'm with you all the way. Forget about a story. I never liked the vehicles either. Just give me some original guns, solid maps, ultra kills and I'm good to go.
