Thanks for sharing guys. I love reading stuff like this. The Witcher is for me a close second but as expected it has already been named. I have to agree with Dux about Warhammer 40K too. That universe is amazing and both Dawn of War games (including expansion) really captured my imagination as well. Keep it coming!

We've seen these topics countless of times. What's your favorite game? What's your favorite shooter? You get the point. Hell, we even had similar topics here. So why this topic then? Simple, I haven't seen this specific question before. Not that I can recall anyway.
For the record, I'm not talking about which game you consider having the best gameplay. No, you can even dislike the gameplay for all I care. I'm also not referring to what you've played the most or what you consider the best in a specific genre because we generally know. If one would ask about the best shooters you would get titles like Half Life and Quake. No, we're not having any of that. What I want to know is what game really made you fell in love with it's world and characters? A game that sucked you right into it's world. A world you didn't want to leave anymore. Characters you loved or were emotionally invested in. Hopefully by now you get the picture

As topic starter I'll kick it off:
Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen

We have provided more information on this in our privacy policy.I own the entire series (with several duplicates across platforms). But the first remains the best for me. It's nostalgia for sure but I can still play it today and absolutely love it. Gameplay wise it could have been better. It wasn't the prettiest game and it had some nasty stuff like excessive loading times. But what it lacked in gameplay it made up with loads of atmosphere, a well crafted original world, excellent story, superb writing and some of the best voice acting I've heard in a game.
I'll save my second place for when and if this thread takes off.
Sharing is caring!

I was waiting for some quality time with my wife so I could let her play this. I didn't explain anything nor did I play it myself. We went in blank except that I told here nothing about it being Silent Hills or horror. It didn't take long before she handed me the controller. I, Mr. Horror himself, took it from here and went about my business as usual. Fearless as always. However, this teaser hits the right notes and stays away from cliches. As things progressed I genuinely started to feel uneasy. My wife crept closer and closer and for the first time in ages something managed to startle me. I was actually swearing. I love that feeling and it's something I seldom find even though I'm constantly looking for it. I would pay top dollar for that rush. So Hideo and Guillermo, you've gotten yourself a day 1 purchase right here.

A bit disappointed about this trailer. Mainly due the repetitive and lame death animations (basically all the same). I hope that gets fixed in the final version and that these are just placeholders.

It's scoring great reviews so far. Here's, for me, the most important bit:
QuoteThe people and creatures that inhabit Metro 2033's dark tunnels and stations now benefit from improved AI routines and better animations (though, it has to be said, Last Light's animations remain superior). This means the on/off stealth that plagued the first game - where everyone would instantly know where you were the second someone noticed you - has been replaced with Last Light's more granular system wherein you can find cover again should you be spotted, and even silence the person who saw you if you're quick enough. It's a much better fit for 2033's stealth-heavy, survival-focused campaign and improves the game immeasurably.

Quote from KoKo5oVaR
I saw all of my co-workers full of enthusiasm slowly breaking up, spending their day moaning a bit more and trying to leave the boat to more interesting teams within the studio or desperately working on making unique assets, turned up I ended alone to finish placing vegetation in my shiny armour (until the intern arrived). And that's the thing, they were right, because this inevitable dose of repetitive work is the real mind killer.
Regardless of what industry you work in, interns are always fucked!

As some of you might recall I had a "Going crazy at work" thread in which I described a guy that literally ruined our entire team and was responsible for almost every fuck up we ever made. Later, in my other "Sprony and the Pendulum" thread I described how the entire team got shutdown (mainly because of him) and we were all demoted back to customer service. I was the only one to come out on top and secure an job at Traffic Management. For those of you that don't know, Traffic Management is responsible for keeping all Callcenter Agents busy (among other things). We can change shifts and we can, for instance, put people on non voice or voice. So much for the intro.
The problem with callcenters is that nobody actually want to pick up the phone. Everyone wants to do other stuff. That prick I mentioned above has been doing voice ever since we got demoted. Today he finally got some non voice work but it's quite busy here so we need more people on voice. I informed him (and others) that I changed his shifts for the entire week back to voice. I've never loved my job as much as I did today.

How do you normally go about this? Use random concepts and rearrange/paint over them or is it done from scratch?
-
Gameplay over graphics. Always have and always will. I still play on my NES or Mega Drive and often enjoy those titles more then let's say, the latest COD.

A serious post by Nexus, I'm so confused right now or is this a whole new level of trolling?

Honestly, if I learned one thing throughout all these years of working in several jobs (construction and deconstruction, horticulture, postman, IT, retail, customer service and traffic management) is that the most shittiest job are doable as long as you have the colleagues that make it fun.

Quote from Castle
I have been in the industry for so long now I dont even remember everything I worked on. I am happy to be doing what I love to do and in all honesty lately I have been more afraid that I'll end up unemployed for a long time again which was more soul crushing than working on a bad game. And I have worked on some bad games before let me tell you lol... None of it compared to having to push shopping carts at walmart while looking for work. During the interview they showed some of the games that they sold in the electronics department and one of them was Call Of Duty Black Ops and for some reason I pointed and said I worked on the first one. I am not sure why I bothered to mention it but nobody believed me anyway. None of those people were able to understand that there is a world outside of that place.
I had a guy talking during break with someone else talking about how he wanted to learn Unity but he messed around with Fallout modding. I mentioned that I worked on a couple really big mods for New Vegas. He said "Don't you push shopping carts?" I told him I had been working on games for a living for more than 10 years and he gave a sarcastic smile to his buddy like I was full of shit then continued talking about this one time he loaded up Unity.
*sigh* I'm more worried about experiencing shit like that again.
This is really sad man. I'm very happy you found a job again. Fuck, that must have been depressing.

That really depends on the game but having your name in the credits, a character named after you, get your own quest, using your face, special forum access, development input, alpha and beta access, etc are always popular.
Also, those are pledge rewards. Stretch goals could be: ports to other platforms, multiplayer, extra quests, larger world, more dialogue, recorded dialogue, VR support, etc.
