Ah, growing up and having responsibilities. Say goodbye to all that free time and those endless hobbies. Now it's work, run the household, keep an active social life and when you do have a moment, it's usually spend watching movies or playing games (you know, things that don't have you leave the couch). If you want to get stuff done you need to prioritize and plan. Have discipline and do what you set out to do but keep it real. It's useless to plan a study night after a week of hard work. No, pick your moments efficiently.

To avoid confusion, ingame my name is Infje (QL doesn't allow me to change that).

I can't tell from the reviews what kind of game this actually is, they tend to leave out the basics. Does anyone know how RPG this actually is? Or is it more hack and slash?

This should paint a clearer picture:

  • Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor

    • September 26, 2014 at 10:18 AM

    Review round up:

    Quote
    • CVG: 9/10 - The Nemesis system alone is worth giving this a go, let alone the Lord Of The Rings setting. Better than every other LOTR game, never again will we settle for mediocrity when our favourite book/film licenses get picked up.
    • GamesRadar: 4.5/5 - The overall package is this phenomenal. Shadow of Mordor isn't just the greatest Lord of the Rings game to date-- it's also one of the most entertaining open-world adventures around. By the time you've concluded Talion's journey, you'll feel like you've experienced your own personal odyssey through Middle-earth, locked in a struggle against adversaries that only you truly know.
    • Polygon: 9.5/10 - Shadow of Mordor is that ultimate rarity. It tells a fun little story that would be enough to hold up most games on their own. But it also provides all of the tools to ensure that the most interesting tales to come out of the game will be the ones that were not scripted.
    • GameSpot: 8/10 - This is a great game in its own right, narratively disjointed but mechanically sound, made up of excellent parts pieced together in excellent ways. I already knew what future lay in store for Middle-earth as I played Shadow of Mordor; I'm hoping that my own future might one day bring another Lord of the Rings adventure as stirring as this one.
    • Eurogamer: 8/10 - One of the most enduring themes of Tolkien's universe has been the corrupting influence of power, but this has almost always been explored through the eyes of individuals that refuse to abuse that power. In death, Talion is free to do what those characters were never able to, and you experience first-hand what an intoxicating high that can be.
    • IGN: 9.3/10 - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor stands out from other open-world action games by putting a great new layer on top of the trail that Batman blazed. I was surprised at how well it integrates its excellent combat with rewarding feedback and progression not just for me, but also for my enemies.
    • Destructoid: 6/10 - Although Monolith's heart is in the right place and the studio honors the lore, it doesn't really add anything that's worth seeing outside of some solid open world gameplay. It isn't a bad game, it just feels far too repetitive for its own good.
    • Kotaku: No score - Modor wants to be great game more than a satisfying bit of fan-service, so it invites you and its orcs to buy into its campy fiction together. That way, you can both have more fun. I think that's the sort of youthful exuberance The Lord of the Rings universe needs rights now. As the Hobbit movies wind slowly to a close, Shadow of Mordor boldly asserts itself as a new beginning.
    • Joystiq: 5/5 - What would have otherwise been a competent sandbox game with solid combat mechanics and an interesting twist on a known fantasy world is elevated by the Nemesis System. Shadow of Mordor is the strategic person's action game.
    • ShackNews: 9/10 - Shadow of Mordor is influenced by other games, but not defined by them. Instead it takes pieces from some of the best games of the last few years, augments them with RPG mechanics and the new Nemesis system, and integrates them all so well together that it's sometimes hard to tell where one system begins and another ends. It's a remarkable achievement.
    • GameTrailers: 8.7/10 - The world feels alive and treacherous, the combat gives you lots of gruesome options, and the enemy army is always evolving. It might not offer the challenge you crave, but if you enjoy killing orcs, there are two maps filled with the savage monsters and they're all looking for a fight.
    • EGM: 8.5/10 - The landscapes and exploration elements might not be on the level of some of its open-world brethren, but Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers one of the best games to feature the intricate lore of J.R.R. Tolkien-and its innovative, addictive Nemesis system could redefine the way developers design enemy encounters in the future.
    • Game Informer: 8.25/10 - Shadow of Mordor is an unabashedly challenging and complex experience, sometimes at the expense of accessibility. I'm thrilled that we've got a new franchise in the fertile ground of Tolkien's fiction. Add in a borderline revolutionary approach to mission design, and this is a firm foundation for a stellar new series.
    • GamesTM: 8/10 - Shadow of Mordor might owe something of a debt to numerous games that have come before it, but by adding its own flavour to the mixture the result is a surprisingly expansive and hearty experience that is more compelling than plenty that have come before it. A hugely entertaining, tongue-in-cheek and fulsome experience, it's a worthy expedition whether you're a Rings fan or not.
    • GamesBeat: 80/100 - I don't want to turn everyone off of it. I think Shadow of Mordor deserves a huge audience. I like it bordering on loving it. Had Monolith tightened up a few things, I'd probably love it bordering on considering it one of the best games of the year.

Played a couple of strikes with friends last night. The whole "Let me open this door, while you fight of these waves" is really overused and I'm getting tired of it very fast. Combined with my complaint since the alpha about the bosses taking 20 minutes of pumping bullets in them before they go down is causing me to want to play this less and less.

Uh.. Mirror Mirror, Soldier of Fortune, the last Silent Hill (can't remember the name) and the serie Legends. Probably in more stuff because he does a lot of direct to video work as well.

And yes, how might be a better question.

Hoping to sell my house by the end of this year. If so, I'll move and have enough room to throw a huge Mapcore party.

Other then that, I'm down for a meetup wherever but it has to be next year for me (selling this house is costing me several body parts).

Finally played a bit yesterday. I definitely get that old FO1/2 feeling. The character screen really brings back memories. Loving the dialog and setting so far. I have to agree about the visuals though. They are really rough. FO1/2 look better due to their art style imo. Having said that, I didn't find anything yet that put me off and I look forward into continuing.

So, while I'm waiting to do all the preparations for play testing helium, I'm messing around with a CTF map - got a pretty bonkers concept I'm testing out now - In a way, I wish I could still use a fake skybox, I have a feeling working so far away from the grid center is a bad idea.

I watched Transformers Age of Extinction too, a really stupid movie, and surprisingly boring for one with so much action in it

Downloaded the new Transformers for my wife. We were betting how long it would take before there was an explosion from which things were running dramatically. We weren't done betting or it already happened, 2 minutes in. Michael fucking Bay

Also, kept falling asleep about an hour in. Shit dragged on.
