With the right tweaking of the sub-d mesh, you can cut down on the tris by removing the extrusions where the colored faces are in the pic below. Just a flat face would work perfectly and you'd get better performance plus more UV space to scale up a bit.

Thanks for the comments every one.

Regarding the DoF, this is the default ToD for the editor, so there shouldn't be any. As e-freak said, it's most likely because of the simple material (just a white box material I found in the material editor) with no UVs on the solids. Plus I used print screen for the shots, might be impacting the appearance as well.

They may be double windows, that's correct, but if you look at them they are not actually double the width of the other windows in your reference as they have thinner panels of glass in them. They might be slightly wider but no more than a third I'd say. I think your other windows may be a bit too thin as well if you compare them to the reference, but that's being really nit-picky.That being said, I think it's only looking wrong to you because you know the reference so well, the actual 3D stuff doesn't look that bad when viewed on it's own.

Yeah, I've noticed they're way smaller than double the width of the windows on the building next to it. I think what's throwing me off is that I'm getting this impression they're fairly large but when compared to the other windows, they're obviously not. I'm trying not to get too lost in the minutiae here as it always slows me down and it rarely makes a noticeable difference.

I'm working on a small scene in CE3, I want to get that early-mid 1900s feel to it. Currently white boxing it out but I've always gone at a snails pace when it comes to getting proportions correct.

My goal's not 100% accuracy, so there are differences in height and what not from the reference, but the building on the left is really tripping me up, I can't seem to get it right. It has these larger, double-wide windows and I don't know if it's the angle in the reference or what, but they always seem off from everything else. I could use some tips for speeding up my work flow along with retaining accuracy from references like this.

Thanks guys, lots of useful info! I still don't know how to explode my object but give me a minute, I'll figure it

Exploding an object is just a hip way of saying separating the pieces of your mesh. I don't think it'll be necessary for the piece though.

KoKo, srsly nice work. Really dig your sculpting! I'll have to try that script out

Swhat they said last time. I like how it's acknowledge that even without the mod tools, mods will still happen, yet with mod tools it'd be too difficult for people :/

I think there's another reason why there wont be any but oh well.

The color balance between crysis and crysis 2 are not at all the same. I sincerely prefer crysis.I hope future games will not copy this crappy colors. Even the witcher 2 use the same color balance and contrast and it's very truculent/rough.

    I don't want a kitch game. :\

I didn't say they had the same color balance, I said the balance on both games is nice.

Do you think mirror's edge, hl2 ep2, portal 2 or even Dark Messiah will be better with these type of colors ?

No because they probably wouldn't fit. What Crytek chose for Crysis 2, imo, works. That's all I'm saying yo.

Crysis 2 has a very nice balance of colors/saturation as did Crysis. More games need to look like it.

modular, with hp bakes for parts of the modules, a bit different to the 3dmotive tutorial which teaches some pretty odd things.

    Thanks Rick.

lol @ high polies for an entire city, wtf man

Haha, I only meant high poly modular pieces. I think Gears 2 did uber high poly modular pieces for all of their building assets, granted they didn't need to make anything on the scale of Crysis 2.

I love the update. From seeing a puddle reflect the buildings and objects around it to looking up at the huge skyscrapers and taking it all in, very inspiring (like all Crysis games.)

Did you guys model out hp meshes and bake for your base textures to create the buildings, or largely go photosource (like the modular tutorial from 3d Motive?) I want to do a small scene with modular buildings but seeing how awesome they are in Crysis 2, would be great to know the technique behind it.

Yeah, the intro before the update was pretty damned impressive. With the updated installed though, I was pretty much blown away. I'm also surprised at how smooth the game still runs with DX11, high res textures, and all settings cranked @ 1920x1080.

Yes, it's the ESRB and if a game is rated 'M' (for mature), you have to be 17 or older to buy it. If you're not, you need your parent there to buy it. It works just fine, there's no need for state regulation and control on what game is or isn't violent and then banning minors from buying the game.
