  • Declaring a project dead - when is it time?

If the finished project could be of value? I'm not sure anyone who looks at it will fully understand how much work there is behind it so I don't know - if it blossoms on the SC2-Arcade and gets many players it will be worth it.

Don't value side-projects based on how many people could potentially play it. It's like winning the lottery out there, so many distractions... so many mods/games to play. You'd be lucky if someone played it at all. If I made 1 person happy creating something it's usually worth it to me because like Puddy said... first and foremost you're doing it for yourself, it has to be fun.

I'm assuming pretty much all people here will have a shitton of unfinished projects. My game dev folder on my desktop has more unfinished stuff in it than finished but I'm cool with that. Lots of research, tests and whatnot that helped me be where I am now and I'm still doing it. It'd be cool to share some stuff once in a while but meh, as long as you don't HAVE to do it (create a portfolio to find a job) just do what you want, life's too short!

It might also just be that you overscoped, make something you can finish in a couple of weeks perhaps if you're losing focus that fast. Cos from a portfolio standpoint it's obviously better to finish stuff and move on.

Yeah, I'll look into that, it's really freaking annoying. I turned off mouse smoothing but mouse acc is definitely on, I just don't know where it's coming from, if it's windows, the mouse drivers or the game.

Mouse acc is driving me crazy as well in general. Could be Windows (there's some registry stuff you can download for that "MarkC registry fix" or something it is called). But it might also be your mouse hardware, if you have a laser mouse chances are it's using a type of laser that has standard acceleration built in. Optical mice usually don't suffer from that.

Source: I fucking hate all "gamer" mice I've owned and now use a crappy dell optical mouse that is durable and just reads whatever I do 1 to 1

I'll get it. Haven't played CoD since Black Ops and the singleplayer was really awesome there, looking forward to it I don't need innovation or whatever, if it's fun it's fun. A lot of reviews seem to bash it cos it's just not new enough compared to last years CoD but meh I don't care since I haven't played that

Screenshots are indeed a bit hard to gauge what you're going for. You got a top down layout where you have notes scribbled or anything? Since it's a dungeon that should be a pretty clear format to tell us what you're after, unless there's a ridiculous amount of different floor levels that would overlap on a top down map.

Got a moodboard for what you want visually? Any environmental story telling? (Why does this dungeon exist at all? What happened, etc) How are the different zones gonna stand out? Got a puzzle planned out or is it just gonna be about combat?

What I usually like about the dungeons in Skyrim is when they sort of break from the usual dungeon format. What I mean by that is that for instance there's a hole in the wall that takes you to a cavern which takes you to a spider cave and then you go back to the concrete environment. Or a small outdoor-ish area to break it up.

So basically: Got a plan to make it stand out from a generic dungeon? What's the selling point?

    Keep it up.

The problem with these type of guys is that they're gonna be hired into the management team of a different studio and probably get a salary increase as well. :/

Very sad to hear it turned out this way, looked interesting.

Anyone else super disappointed that after 8 years of being stuck with the same consoles the next-gen consoles can't do 1080p and 60 FPS for all titles while still looking as good as current day PC titles? I guess my expectations were somewhat unrealistic but I figured it was possible if you turn off some of the fancy stuff.

Dunno, perhaps I'm just too bitter but doesn't look like they'll be able to keep up for a decade when they start out crippled at 720 and 900p resolutions (definitely the Xbone). Sure, games will look better once we figure out the tech but what good is it when it looks awesome but jitters like crazy and has flickering edges everywhere. Then again... Halo 4 looked absolutely amazing so there's that.

I'm hyped about some of the exclusives that are coming out in the next years but I'm just hyped about the games themselves, not really the hardware they're running on :s

Hmm, apparently some changes have been made over the original. Might have to play it again then

You make it sound like they're able to design their games in a vacuum. While it's definitely possible to make a good (and niche) Thief game, it's undoubtedly harder to make a Thief game that will not make them go bankrupt. There's more to game development than just coming up with a design for a fun game (publishers/marketing oh god the horror ) . Just look at Splinter Cell, Hitman, Deus Ex. All of those had to aim to a broader market, more focus on progression systems, etc. I'd say they adapted quite well but you got to admit they lost some of their original flavor that set them apart so much back in the day. That's just how it is I suppose, niche doesn't cut it anymore when development costs are so big.

I'm willing to cut them some slack and hope they find a golden ratio. You might just have to look at this as a Thief-esque game and let's just judge the game by its content and not because "Thief" is slapped on the cover. I understand the butthurt though, I suppose not all games can see a new iteration in the current day climate and stay true to their roots.

Pacific RimUsually I have no problem with hollywood blockbuster kind of clichéfests but dayum... they really went overboard with this one. Ok sure, you're not supposed to watch these for the story but this one is so sub-par in that area it's hard to ignore. :/ Nothing is new here, been there done that a million of times. They probably wrote the story with a checklist or something, very uninspiring. I'd go as far as saying it's the most predictable movie I've seen in a long time. And the fake emotional bullcrap was painful to watch and wtf was up with the scientists... Anyhow... Robots and CGI fuck yeah xD That's what I was hoping to get and I got it so I can't complain I suppose

Me big, no man atm i weight 76 kg and i'm 170 cm, my goal is 80kg to december and then start dieting down again.

I was on 4 000 kcal's with about 10% BF, 4500 will be my first but i want to try this out, if i gain too much fat i will cut down kcal's. I have very fast metabolism and there so i need to eat a lot

as for IF - i love the concept but i wouldn't be able to eat as much as i do with only two eating windows a day, thats why i eat about 6-5 times a day, cause i like to eat smaller meals but more often.

thats great, that some ppl here actually lift and are dieting ! i run my FB page with my friends we have about 26 000 fans, but its mostly in polish, but it you have any questions about nutrition or training (martial arts or fitness relates stuff, hit me)

76kg on a 170cm dude with BF of 10%... Eh, sounds like you're pretty muscular or the science doesn't add up man

Take me for instance, 184cm and I weigh 71kg. Definitely not "big", just your average joe I guess, BF is around 10% as well. I definitely ain't that muscular but body fat percentage is around the same so you gotta be pretty muscular... right? Is my logic wrong? I guess "muscular" is a highly relativistic term to begin with...

OT before this turns into another gym thread: I should get me a fryer and bake some fries and other snacks xD Goddamn that sounds like an excellent idea, why didn't I think of that before. Next time I'm in the store I'll check out if they have Amora stuff. Guess it's technically not really cooking?

Currently runs like crap on my PC (i7 2600k, 660ti, 8gb ram), so I'll wait until there's a good driver or the game has been fixed.

You need the nvidia beta drivers or something, I think. There was a mail going around the office of some dude having performance problems as well.

Dunno, haven't checked it out yet

If they call the game Amnesia, they better release an Amnesia-esque game... False advertising, is that what caused the most outrage?

I still haven't touched the game though, partly because everyone keeps saying the game plays nothing like The Dark Descent so my hype-o-meter dropped straight to 0.

Read the article, sure you can release a game that deviates from the norm, just don't call it Amnesia FFS xD

Regarding cars and the garage and such... How does it all work?

Cos I've been on missions and when I came back, driving miles away, my original car is still there if I parked it in the parking lot near the mission. Do I always need to "park" it, or will anywhere do and there's no volume registering what car I arrived in?

What happens if I upgrade a car and leave it somewhere? Will it unspawn and all my money gone? Do I need to leave it in the garage once and it will always spawn back in the garage?

When does a car get confiscated by the police? Cos that happened yesterday and had no idea what car they meant, so I walked up to the depot and paid $250 without even knowing which car was in it and it turned out to be a total piece of shit car? Huh?

I think the driving is really good actually. It's very easy to drive backwards and do a 180 turn and all of that fancy stuff Having a blast speeding and getting myself blown through the windshield! It does require some practice though, I had to do one of the races 3-4 times but after that I got it nailed down.
