Me me me! Although it's been a while since I started it up though so perhaps not if demand is really high

EDIT: Played for a bit. Nice job on the Arnold doge mask And really loving the Eagle Heavy Rifle, think I finally found a replacement for my M308!

  • What was your first ever map?

Age of Empires 2. I hated that the AI always rushed me so I made a map where you start of surrounded by bamboo and you had to cut your way out, delaying the game. I still lost but at least I got to build a city xD I always was more fascinated by building stuff.

8 years of shit after that in various editors, both ingame and some more complex. Both 2D and 3D.

I suppose my first "real" editor was the F.E.A.R. dev kit, didn't finish anything on that.

I'm not gonna discourage you to start using a complex editor but why not try one that's built ingame first so you don't get all the errors, build issues, etc? If it's your first map don't make assets for it, waste of time since your map will be shit anyways. Better spend that time on making more maps and learning from mistakes rather than tweaking textures (unless you wanna do art).

There are indeed a whole bunch of people working on bugfixing so the game is getting more stable every day. Hopefully it'll be smooth for everyone soon.

I can pretty consistently move through the fireworks at the start of the game, but then it stops working. Feels pretty inconsistent, not sure if it's hit detection or whatever.

Afaik that's how it's been for pretty much every FPS game last gen? PC has had a much lower market share for a while now.

Just saw that in my backer email, omg so touching.

Get out your wallets everyone! I did tip Kotaku, Destructoid, and Joystiq about this too (as well as posted it on the MapCore Facebook and Twitter). For whatever reason those gaming sites won't post it, yet some of the bullshit they do post about toilets in Japan or whatever the fuck...

I guess it's cos it's mobile? A lot of news outlets don't support mobile Then again, I'd be a hypocrite to say I'm excited about this game for that exact same reason, I don't own a tablet nor play on my phone.

That being said, I really hope you guys make it! It looks really cool! Best of luck!

I want more of them. Any of you played something really cool lately? I really liked FTL and hopefully there's some other indie gems out there that I'm unaware of. Kickstarter and the blooming indie industry sort of made me more ignorant of what's out there, can't follow it all at the rate new stuff is coming out.

I'd really want one with procedural content, minecraft-in-space-ish would be really awesome!

    There's this: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/joshp…ural-space-game

Which sounds super awesome but I think it might be a while...

    Puddy

Look at it from this perspective: You are a QA lead/manager and interviewing someone for a QA job. First thing your applicant says is that he wants to move up to level design or 3D art... You really wanna fill up your QA spot with such a person?

That sounds pretty much the same to me as interviewing someone for a junior position and first thing he says is that he wants to be a lead in the next year. People interview someone to fill a specific job, for instance making level 2 and 3 for game X cos that's what is needed atm, they don't need another lead. They want you to focus on your job and be passionate about it.

Sure ambition is good but if it involves switching careers or climbing so fast you'll be unfit (too costly) to do the job that is open then why would you want to hire this person? Obviously it's expected that people move around and ease into different fields over time but don't expect your interviewer to be stoked about you saying you only wanna do this for about a year or something before you move to what you really wanna do. It's kind of insulting to the person that's interviewing you cos he/she is likely very passionate about the kind of job you're being interviewed for and you just wanna use the system.

QA is not supposed to be a springboard to other jobs. We need passionate people in those spots. Don't apply if your ambition is something other than QA, that just contributes to the problem.

Not saying this is you Puddy, just wanted to throw some perspective onto this whole QA debacle Or at least my viewpoint on it.

Nerve. Sure. You already have some QA experience in a different field so sounds like you'd be a good fit.

I have to disagree and say QA is probably one of the worst ways of getting any job at a studio other than QA. Sure it gets your foot in the industry and you get to see a little bit of inside stuff but it's ridiculously hard to climb up to a different department. This heavily depends on the company of course and I can only speak for the company I've worked for.

1st of there's the social stigma you'll have to overcome. QA is not held in high regard unfortunately and is often staffed by incompetent people. I've seen my fair share of awesome QA people though that are pro-active and super good at their job. But all too often it's a low paying job given to some kid that likes playing games all day long. Not someone that actually cares about user experience and such. I hope the industry will start respecting and staffing the position more properly in the future. When done right it's super important and I value it a lot, it shouldn't have to be like this.

So that being said people will be a bit more skeptical when they hear you wanna climb up to a creative position and might scrutinize your portfolio more heavily. Sad but true. So expect having to switch to a different company for a 3D or level design position once you get the hang of things. QA experience still looks good on a resume though, if the portfolio is up to snuff.

So take that with a pinch of salt. It might work or not depending on the company, usually the bigger the studio the more fragmented departments are and the less you'll actually be in contact with designers and artists.

CoD doesn't suffer from inconsistent animations. Remember vaulting in BF3? I find animations to be tighter and more predictable in CoD, even if it looks silly.

I also find gun inaccuracy (perhaps it's more realistic?) to be really annoying in Battlefield. I just feel like I'm spraying all the time. You can't even properly double tap for a kill. I definitely prefer Counterstrike's system and CoD is closer to that than Battlefield is.

There's also the weird collision issues, like jeeps on terrain and that. Everything feels jittery and then there's the netcode whatever issues.

It's very much not a tight experience for me. Very dramatic and cool but not very precise and consistent. It doesn't help that the hardware requirements are through the roof and the simulation stuff doesn't properly work at lower than 60 FPS. I guess a lot of my issues would be resolved if I had a better PC.

I just play Battlefield for the vehicles and cos it's cool to play in a team with so many players but I find the basic stuff, e.g. shooting people, not very fun. If I played more games these days I would totally give CoD another shot, it's just different, not worse. I'd rather see a mix with the best of both worlds, blasphemy I know xD

Baseline: Please focus more on gameplay experience, less on art. But yeah, I'm not on the BF4 team

Perhaps my mistake to think the name of the song was clear enough when accompanied by the credits for those that finished the game. Anyhow:

so the soundtrack is up on spotify and i like it, but the main theme is butchered this time (i liked the Bf3 theme tho)

I wouldn't really call the main theme the real main theme though. Heard "Warsaw theme" yet?

I never got a fix for my lag (feels like a constant 500ms delay, no spikes or anything) Very annoying, never got to play with friends because of it. Fighting a monster with that kind of delay is just ridiculous... Anyone experienced the same?

There has been plenty of communication from DICE, although only on the forums and not in an official press release if that's what you're wondering. Anyhow: http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/forum/thre…65670132493039/
