Just wondering... Any specific reason you picked the plasma over the LED version?

Finished it Met 5 people along the way, stuck with the last one pretty long. It's strange that the "coop" is so effective

    Definitely recommend getting it!

I bought a tv last december, guess I can help you with that since I did quite a bit of research!

I think the new versions are coming out soon though... dunno when it's the yearly refresh of models but I think it was March-April ish or something. So you might wanna look into those as well.

First off: All tv's are shit and flawed. Great, awesome. At least that's what you're going to read if you go to those fanatic review websites... forumrage and all that.

I bought a Samsung D7005 55" which seemed like a good price/quality for me. Flaws are that there's some "light bleeding" and "torchlighting", which are inherent problems to LED tv's. It doesn't bother me at all though, I don't see it by normal use and you can only see it slightly, if you really wanna... on a black background. I watched Tron on this TV (bluray) and countless of other movies I borrowed from the internet, was pretty pleased! I also play games and no issues whatsoever.

If you wanna check those flaws, exaggerated since they like to crank brightness all the way up (which you obviously never do):

    Light bleeding: http://ic.tweakimg.net/ext/i/1248852668.jpeg

Basically inconsistent brightness levels on the panel

    Torchlighting: http://desmond.imageshack.us/Himg215/sc ... res=medium

Light bleeding from the corners, looks a bit torchlight ish (although not really on that picture).

But like I said, barely noticeable unless you're want to start nitpicking (and don't do crazy stuff like crank panel brightness to 100 and backlight to 20/20)

There's some other versions of this TV but I got this one since you get 2 pairs of 3D glasses with it so that makes it the best bang for your bucks since those are quite expensive. The 3D is pretty good as well, some "double-lines" here and there but it's almost as good as going to the movies

So there's that, the other one which I was looking into/got recommended is the Panasonic VT30. It's a plasma so the quality is better, apparently... Better blacks and colors. But it's heavier, thicker frame and all that stuff as well. And most of them seem to have a problem with the panel :S "green blob". Which put me off enough to not look into this one more even though it's supposedly the better one. Not a real fan of plasma's anyways...

    Green blob: http://www.avforums.com/forums/attachme ... n-blob.jpg

There might be more TV's out there that might be worth looking into if you want a different size but these were the "hot" ones, at least for 55".

    Any questions, let me know

Omg I remember that site! Hijack-this was an awesome tool. I ended up deleting so much stuff I thought was malicious but was an integral part of windows and thus making my pc unbootable xD

Good memories, and angry siblings not being able to finish their essays

Didn´t know they closed down, was a really helpful forum (If you followed instructions and didn´t do things yourself like I did)

Finally got to rank 45. Loving the AS VAL, can't wait until it gets more ammo next patch.

Pff I envy you! I wanna use the weapons I normally use during playtests but yeah... guess we´ll have to grind like the rest of 'em

    - The thirteenth floor. Pretty cool stuff Next up on my mindfuck list is K-Pax and then I think I´ve seen about every movie in that genre (which makes me a sad panda! )

Lol at 2024 being super high-tech ish. Mostly the buildings...No way that´s gonna happen in merely 12 years from now. The movie is from 1999, 25 years seems like a lot of time back then I suppose. Well... that´s a disappointment

Same for Blade Runner... 2016, my ass!

Erm... ok, can you backup that with some kind of argument? Have you played it?

We're 4 hours in and so far the levels are exactly like the valve's ones. (Those screens I posted previously are the "stronger" ones, where they went a bit crazy with changes)

Most of the changes throughout the game are just filling the scenes with more stuff, like ferns, little bushes, more trees and buildings in the background, more rubble, etc. To make the experience visually richer, even the lighting is MUCH better, I think they rebaked all the levels with more light bounces; but the gameplay areas and guideance are pretty intact.

My bad, should´ve explained it better. I was referring to those screens. Since you posted those specific ones I assumed you used them to back your claim and I found that odd since the latter one, lighting wise, looks nothing like the original. It definitely does not function the same way and leads your eyes nowhere, it´s a mess. The original is definitely the better one, even without all the eye candy.

If the rest is as good as you say... well, a job well done then I´d say But that last screen does not do it justice... Feel free to disagree with me though.

"But left intact and they all respect valve's vision"

I wouldn´t say they stayed true to the original concerning player guidance... at all. 8|

A review by its very nature is an opinion, an evaluation. What you're asking for is a press release minus the extra-flowery marketing text. [Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif]

[Blocked Image: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/public/style_emoticons/default/mapcore_smilies/emot_shakehead.gif] No. Don´t wanna get into this too much but... Bias and subjectivity are fine when dealing with opinions, it´s what they are. However, when you´re dealing with a review, I want to get it pure, unbiased. I think a bad review is a review you can disagree with. You can´t disagree with an unbiased evaluation, it is what it is. You can say it´s incomplete, states wrong information, the conclusion is drawn with the wrong purpose in mind (not getting the product/close-mindedness), etc... but that´s it. Opinions are for blogs... And you can say "Yes I agree" or "That´s not true" to those. And as a result get irritated/confused every time those show up in a text that supposed to talk about the game rather than the reviewers feelings towards it.

You can never get rid of all of that subjectivity, it´s only human. But the thing is that the reviewer needs to review the game, that is the focus, not himself... Not shoving his opinion down our throat. That´s just egocentrical. Where possible, just leave it be. A lot of times when I see bad review scores when others reviewed it positively it´s because of a lack of being open to it and saying the game sucks and giving all the wrong conclusions because the reviewer himself disliked it, rather than thinking what the people that actually like this want out of this game. Often also overlooking to write about chunks of information that those misunderstood readers need and then the whole think becomes a rant AND lacks substance.

Still haven´t read that review though so I´m not talking about that specifically but just in general... Some reviewers are just douches.

And I think there might be something wrong with my monitor Might just have to go with it even with all this tearing :S

Honestly it's pretty childish to disreguard a critical opinion because it doesn't happen to match your own expectations.Everything said in that Dtoid review is valid, and because it happened to cause the reviewer to grossly dislike DE, he reviewed it negatively based on his opinion of it.

A review should never be an opinion. It should review the product as accurately and objectively as possible and keep in mind the general public and set aside his own personal feelings, so basically the opposite of his own opinion. I hate reviewers that don´t get this. I´m not interested in the reviewer, I´m interested in the product.

Just tossing that out there, didn´t read the review cos I don´t want any spoilers

That being said... How long does it take to complete the game? Since I think it´s probably best played in one go, right?

And how do you limit the FPS to 59? How can I open up the console and limit it? Vsync is not doing what it´s supposed to do

EDIT: Gave up, sigh The tearing is ruining the experience. If anyone can find the command and how to enter it I´d appreciate it a lot!
